Hearing Ruan Shaowen's words, Wings and Kang Ning were taken aback. Zhang Yang directly said to them, "It's fine. If he wanted to harm us, he would have shot us on the boat. You two don't need to worry." After saying that, he followed Ruan Shaowen to the study.
Once seated, Ruan Shaowen got straight to the point. "Zhang Yang, you came to Myanmar and mentioned you were originally going to Guma Town. Who did you offend to cause such a commotion? I know your abilities; it's not possible for you to upset an ordinary person like this."
Zhang Yang smiled lightly and was about to speak when Ruan Shaowen interjected, "Actually, I'm not interested in who you offended. I just want to ask you, if there’s no place for you in Huaxia, would you be interested in developing in Kawthoung?"
"Developing in Kawthoung? I don't want to be a soldier!" Zhang Yang replied.
"Who said anything about being a soldier? Don't you realize what the biggest industry is in the Kawthoung Region, or Old Street?" Ruan Shaowen asked.
"Naturally, it's gambling. Are you thinking of opening a casino?" Zhang Yang suddenly realized.
"Exactly! This is a lucrative business. What do you think? That friend of yours mentioned having money; he could definitely invest," Ruan Shaowen's eyes lit up with anticipation.
"His money is actually dirty money, and part of it belongs to the person who's trying to kill me," Zhang Yang said calmly.
"Trying to kill you! Why don't we take that person out first and then come back as local emperors?" Ruan Shaowen said casually.
"Take him out? Do you think this is Kawthoung? Do you know who he is? He’s the head of a special department in Huaxia, coming from military intelligence, and he's connected with various countries. To kill me, he could even hire Wano Ninjas. In Huaxia, it's incredibly difficult to take him down," Zhang Yang explained.
"Is there really no possibility at all?" Ruan Shaowen asked anxiously.
"There is some possibility. If I disguise myself and return home alone, waiting for an opportunity might work. However, I don’t want that; I want to expose his true nature and let the law deal with him publicly," Zhang Yang stated.
"What you're saying has almost no possibility at all. You alone want to expose someone from the government? That's like hitting a rock with an egg; it would be better to assassinate him directly. Although the methods are different, the result would be the same," Ruan Shaowen scoffed.
"No matter what method is used, before dealing with this person, I can't come to Kawthoung to mix in. After dealing with him, I might consider it," Zhang Yang looked at Ruan Shaowen and said seriously.
"Alright then. I hope you succeed. If you need any help, just let me know," Ruan Shaowen said as he stood up. "Let's go; it's time for dinner and enjoy some delicious food from Myanmar."
"Wait!" Zhang Yang suddenly said. "Opening a casino isn't out of the question; actually, you could start with Kang Ning!"
"Kang Ning?" Ruan Shaowen asked with a puzzled expression.
"My friend may not excel in other areas, but he is definitely capable in business. You actually have plenty of skilled people here; who would dare to mess with the military? If you open a casino, what you lack are individuals who understand business and can manage it well. He is very suitable for that," Zhang Yang said with a smile.
"Oh? Then I'll talk to him," Ruan Shaowen nodded.
Dinner was served, featuring various Myanmar dishes such as curry fish, tea leaf salad, banana coconut rice dumplings, and gourd soup. The flavors were sour and spicy, whetting the appetite, and the three of them enjoyed the meal greatly. During the meal, Zhang Yang and Ruan Shaowen shared their thoughts with Kang Ning. Zhang Yang and Wings planned to return to Huaxia, leaving Kang Ning in Kawthoung to assist Ruan Shaowen in starting the casino business.
Kang Ning had been hanging around the casino on Old Street and, given his business management acumen, he naturally couldn't return home. He eagerly agreed.
"Cheers! From now on, I'll follow Commander Ruan to make big money!" Kang Ning raised a glass of red wine and downed it without hesitation.
Zhang Yang looked at Wings, Ruan Shaowen, and Kang Ning beside him and couldn't help but think that these three used to be his rivals. Now, they were happily chatting at a dining table in a foreign villa.
The night passed without incident. The next day, Kang Ning stayed behind while Zhang Yang and Wings returned to Guma Town under Ruan Shaowen's escort.
"I must say, your luck is really good," Wings said with a smile as they returned to the courtyard and poured some tea.
"Not bad," Zhang Yang replied with a slight smile. Suddenly, he thought about what he would be doing if he hadn't accidentally broken that Black Pottery Idol left by his grandmother. Perhaps he would be working in Haizhou after failing to get into college? Or maybe he would have become a drifter? Or perhaps he would already be lying dead on the streets.
He gently shook his head; there were no 'ifs' in life—one only lives once. It was like if he hadn't chosen to drop out of school and resign to investigate this matter; he might still be living comfortably in Shanzhou.
"What do you mean 'not bad'? You were clearly at your wit's end when Ruan Shaowen suddenly appeared," Wings took a sip of tea. "What are you planning to do next?"
"I don't know; it's too difficult to obtain evidence of Luo Huasheng's corruption," Zhang Yang rubbed his face, feeling exhausted.
Wings fell silent for a moment. He had grown accustomed to a leisurely lifestyle and initially didn't want to get involved in these matters. However, because of Zhang Yang, he asked a few more questions. Now seeing Zhang Yang's state, he found it hard to continue the conversation.
"How about we go sit at a bar tonight?" After a long pause, Wings finally suggested. A change of scenery and some drinks might alleviate some fatigue, even if it was just self-deception. Zhang Yang nodded in agreement.
There were no bars in Guma Town. After dinner that evening, Wings drove Zhang Yang to Wenli City, not far from Guma Town, where they casually found a bar named Pure Flush in the city center.
They ordered a dozen beers along with some snacks like peanuts and began sipping slowly. The two spoke little as they drank their beer and observed the diverse crowd around them; their bodies felt almost hollow.
Time slipped by like sand through fingers.
Unknowingly, it was already 3 AM. "Sir, we are closing," a waiter politely approached.
"Alright, I'll settle the bill," Wings said as he casually paid.
Zhang Yang stood up and looked around, noticing that the bar was empty except for him, Wings, and a chubby man. The man was short with a large head and thick neck, but his big eyes were bright and lively.
"Sir, we are closing," another waiter approached and politely addressed the chubby man.
"I'm not done drinking yet," the man seemed a bit tipsy, his large eyes squinting into slits.
"Then please come back tomorrow," the waiter advised. "Just settle the bill first."
"I told you I'm not done drinking. If you want me to come back tomorrow, what if I don't feel like drinking then?" The chubby man laughed.
"We really are closing," the waiter didn't know what else to say and repeated this line.
"Hey, do you even know how to run a business? I can only leave because you want me to. Just waive the bill," the man sighed, stood up, and actually walked out.
