After parting ways with Liu Gang, Zhang Yang directly contacted Ding Weiwei. "Let's go shopping!" Ding Weiwei commanded with an air of authority.
The two arrived at the largest shopping mall in Haizhou, Harbor City. They hadn't seen each other for a while, and Ding Weiwei's attention was not focused on shopping; instead, she kept asking Zhang Yang about school, particularly how many beautiful girls were there.
"There are quite a few, but none compare to you," Zhang Yang replied with a cheeky grin.
Having not seen each other for days, Ding Weiwei seemed to have filled out a bit more than before. Although it was nearing autumn, she wore a low-cut white shirt that accentuated her curves, paired with a knee-length skirt and black stockings that highlighted the contours of her calves perfectly.
"If we get tired from shopping later, let's go rest at the hotel," Zhang Yang said as he squeezed Ding Weiwei's hand.
"You're always thinking about trouble. I warn you, behave yourself at school and don’t let your eyes linger on every pretty girl you see," Ding Weiwei said as she playfully pinched Zhang Yang's backside.
"Ouch..." Zhang Yang grimaced in response.
"Look, how beautiful!" Before Zhang Yang could recover, Ding Weiwei suddenly pointed ahead at a jewelry counter.
What caught Ding Weiwei's eye was a Momo Old Coral Necklace topped with a Peace Amulet-shaped Old Amber pendant. "Let's go take a look," Zhang Yang said upon seeing Ding Weiwei's interest.
"You have great taste, beautiful! This is our newly arrived matching set. Our matching jewelry is all one-of-a-kind," the saleswoman perked up as she noticed customers approaching and began to enthusiastically introduce the items.
"Red Coral paired with beeswax is quite unique. How much is it?" Zhang Yang asked.
"This necklace and pendant are priced at 999,999."
"That's too expensive!" Ding Weiwei exclaimed as she immediately put down the necklace.
"It is indeed pricey. But it's very beautiful," Zhang Yang said as he picked up the necklace again and handed it to Ding Weiwei. "If you like it, just buy it."
"I do like it, but..." Ding Weiwei murmured softly.
"Your boyfriend must really care for you, beautiful. This is an exquisite Momo coral piece, taken from an Imperial Beads set from the Qing Dynasty. Each bead is perfectly round and carefully selected, with uniform color. You know only top officials could use coral Imperial Beads. And this beeswax Peace Amulet is also over a hundred years old Old Amber, weighing over 20 grams and in perfect condition with a smooth texture. This string is definitely one of a kind," the saleswoman explained earnestly.
"Hmm..." Ding Weiwei placed the necklace back in the tray, seemingly still hesitating.
"It's so beautiful!" Suddenly, a young woman with a Dollhead hairstyle appeared beside them and directly picked up the necklace from Ding Weiwei's tray, calling out behind her, "Honey, I want this as a birthday gift!"
Behind Dollhead stood a plump, bald man who appeared to be in his fifties.
"Hubby? Does that mean an old grandpa?" Zhang Yang sneered from the side.
"Young man, how can you speak like that?" The bald man stepped forward, smiling, but a chill suddenly rose in his eyes.
"What are you doing? Can't you see my girlfriend hasn't finished looking yet? Are you trying to snatch it away?" Zhang Yang stared back at the chill, his gaze igniting with fire, forcing the coldness to retreat.
The bald man was startled: this young guy had quite a bit of presence for his age.
"Young man, don't be too impulsive!" the bald man said in a deep voice.
"Hmph." Zhang Yang turned his head away, no longer looking at the bald man, and said to Saleswoman: "We'll take this necklace; please wrap it up."
"Wait! How much is the necklace?" The bald man stepped forward to ask.
"The special price is 999,999." Saleswoman internally groaned; usually, she couldn't wait to sell items quickly, but now someone was being difficult. Although this young man seemed wealthy, the old man who could attract such a young and beautiful woman must also be rich or noble. Caught in between, she truly didn't know what to do.
"I'll add 100,000; sell it to us!" The bald man looked up at the counter name: Treasure Pavilion.
"The price is already set; can you just add more? Isn't there a first-come-first-served policy here?" Zhang Yang raised his voice. Ding Weiwei pulled on Zhang Yang, whispering, "Just let it go." Zhang Yang glanced at Ding Weiwei, gently shook his head, then nodded again with determination in his eyes. Seeing this, Ding Weiwei fell silent.
"Um... how about this? I'll consult our manager," Saleswoman said as she picked up the phone.
"No need; do you still want to open a store in Haizhou?" The bald man took out his phone and dialed:
"President Qin? It's me. Is there a counter called Treasure Pavilion in your Harbor City? I see coral jewelry; are all the procedures complete? Do you have a permit?" After a phone call, the bald man told Saleswoman: "You don't need to call anymore; your manager will come over shortly."
Before long, a middle-aged man rushed over. Upon seeing the bald man, he immediately extended his hand: "Director Li has arrived; you didn't even say a word—what a lack of courtesy! I'm the counter manager; President Qin just informed me."
"Let's talk somewhere else." Upon hearing the manager call him "Director," the bald man's expression darkened immediately as he frowned. The manager glanced at Zhang Yang, then smiled at the bald man and led him along with the girl holding Dollhead inside while giving a signal to Saleswoman. Saleswoman took out an exquisite box made of boxwood from behind the counter and placed the coral necklace inside.
Just as she was about to retrieve it from the counter, Zhang Yang pressed down on the wooden box: "What? Are you going to deliver it to him right away?"
"Sir, please don't make it difficult for me. I'm just a worker, how could I dare not listen to the manager?" the Saleswoman said pitifully.
"Then tell me, where is your manager's office?" Zhang Yang blinked and whispered. The Saleswoman looked around and quietly replied, "It's in the back office area, Room 109."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Yang immediately led Ding Weiwei towards the office area.
"We want to buy this necklace now. What, is it not possible to raise the price?" Just as they reached the door, they heard a bald man inside say.
"Raise what price? It's the original price. I'll also give Director Li a high-end jewelry box. Once those two leave, I'll bring it to you," the manager said with a smile.
"Is this how you sell things?" Zhang Yang pushed the door open. The manager's face turned angry: "Why didn't you knock?"
Zhang Yang directly pulled Ding Weiwei to sit on the sofa beside them, crossed his legs, and took out a cigarette to light it. "Director Li, right? No matter which bureau you're from, if you can spend a million on a necklace for your mistress, aren't you afraid of being investigated? Right now, it's like hunting tigers and flies; you're quite a big fly yourself, aren't you?"
"Who are you calling a mistress? We are a legal couple," Dollhead retorted angrily. It turned out that Director Li was the Deputy Director of the Haizhou City Bureau of Industry and Commerce. His wife had indeed passed away six months ago, and Dollhead had directly upgraded from mistress to legitimate partner. They had just registered their marriage not long ago and planned to wait a year before holding a wedding; getting married too early would indeed have negative effects.
"Stop talking nonsense. Director Li, you really have some guts," Zhang Yang said as he took out his phone. "Hey? What's the reporting hotline again? My mind..."
