Just as Jiao Xinmou was about to burst out of the living room door, it was suddenly slammed open from the outside, followed by two gunshots. Jiao Xinmou screamed and rolled onto the floor, dropping both handguns from his hands. Xin Yi, who was preparing to leap down the corridor despite the intense pain in his left calf, froze at the sound of gunfire. When he saw who had entered, he couldn't help but feel both surprised and delighted; it was Mixed-Race Beauty Roxy who had burst into the living room and shot Jiao Xinmou. However, Xin Yi had no idea why she had suddenly appeared here.
Since Jiao Xinmou had already been subdued by Roxy, Xin Yi saw no need to jump out of the window. No matter how good his Kung Fu was, jumping out with an injured leg was no joke; besides, it hurt! So, he made his way down the stairs through the corridor and saw Jiao Xinmou lying on the floor, groaning incessantly. Both of his wrists had been pierced by bullets, likely severing some veins, and blood was gushing down from the wounds. Meanwhile, Roxy stood in the living room with her back to Jiao Xinmou, keeping an eye on the situation outside. She had to face away because that old bastard was still completely naked and it was unclear what kind of pills he had concocted for himself. After all this trouble—having a knife lodged in his right chest and injuries to both wrists—yet somehow a certain part of him remained stubbornly erect, looking defiant. It was truly bizarre; did that thing not require blood supply?
"Roxy, what are you doing here?" Xin Yi asked.
Roxy turned her head to glance at Xin Yi and urgently said, "We'll talk later; hurry up! I saw a large group of guards coming this way when I entered. They should arrive here within five minutes! It will be much more troublesome to leave then!"
"Okay." Xin Yi replied and walked over to Jiao Xinmou. At this point, Jiao Xinmou was clearly in excruciating pain from his wrist and chest wounds. Large beads of sweat were forming on his well-maintained forehead, and his facial features were twisted in agony. His once neatly combed silver hair now hung messily around him as if he had aged twenty years in an instant. He curled up pitifully on the floor and, seeing Xin Yi approach, opened his mouth to trembleingly ask, "Who... who are you? What do you want?"
"What do you think? Director Jiao," Xin Yi coldly replied. "You don't really think I came here today just to cheer you on, do you? Of course, you're impressive; I can prove that to everyone." As he spoke, Xin Yi casually glanced at a certain part of Jiao Xinmou's body.
"You... I can tell you the formula for this drug... as well as the formulas for those drugs taken by those women, as long as you don't kill me." It was unclear what Jiao Xinmou was thinking; he inexplicably blurted this out at such a critical moment. Even Xin Yi almost found amusement in his calm demeanor. This old bastard still thought he could distract Xin Yi with cleverness and buy himself some time. Under normal circumstances, Xin Yi might have entertained him for a bit, but now every second counted for life or death. He wasn't in a good mood at all; seeing Jiao Xinmou trying to play tricks on him made him squat down and suddenly yank out the knife handle embedded in Jiao Xinmou's right chest with two fingers. Blood spurted from the wound with a scream from Jiao Xinmou as he wiped the blood from the knife blade onto Jiao Xinmou's body. Then he leaned close to his ear and said, "Today I'll make sure you understand why you're dying. My name is Xin Yi; I'm from Heavenly Pride Nation. My father's name is Xin Feng; my mother's name is Xue Yu. Both of my parents were members of Heavenly Pride Nation's Phantom Banner, but they were killed by your Mei Organization under your leadership. I'm here today to take revenge for them."
"No, I don't know them; I don't know your parents..." Jiao Xinmou weakly protested but was interrupted by Xin Yi.
"Twenty-eight years ago, Heavenly Pride sent a twenty-man special operations team to Taiwan, only for them all to be wiped out in a massive explosion that you orchestrated, right? A few months later, a female agent from Heavenly Pride Nation was murdered in General Gao Tingda's home due to your scheme; you remember that, don't you?"
"You... are you... cough... cough..."
"Yes, I am!" Jiao Xinmou's words trailed off into nothingness; only choking sounds remained in his throat. He would never be able to finish that sentence because his throat had been cut by Xin Yi. Due to losing too much blood earlier, there was no blood gushing out when his throat was sliced open; only his lungs continued to breathe tirelessly, producing faint wheezing sounds from where it had been severed.
Roxy turned her head to take a look and saw that Jiao Xinmou had met his end while Xin Yi remained frozen in place. She hurried over and tugged at his collar saying, "We need to go now; those guards are getting close!"
"Oh right! Let's go!" Only then did Xin Yi come back to his senses; he stood up and asked, "Which direction did you see the guards coming from?"
"From the front, coming down the mountain," Roxy replied.
"Then let's go from the back, head up the mountain first, and we'll see how it goes! Let's go!" Xin Yi said as he bent down to pick up the two handguns that Jiao Xinmou had dropped on the floor. He started walking toward the living room door, but the pain in his left calf caused him to falter. Roxy noticed this slight movement and quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
"Oh, it's nothing, let's hurry!" Xin Yi waved his hand. At that moment, the sound of a gun bolt being pulled back came from not far outside the wall. Although there was still some distance, Xin Yi's keen hearing picked it up clearly. He pushed Roxy and urged, "Hurry! They're already here!"
Without time to ask further or check, Roxy and Xin Yi quickly ran toward the back yard wall. When they reached the wall, Roxy took a few quick steps and leaped over the tall wall. However, Xin Yi could only jump up and grab the top of the wall with his hands, then struggled to climb over using both hands and feet. As he jumped down from the wall, his left foot landed on a stone, causing his already painful wound to feel as if it were being torn open again. The pain made him crouch down involuntarily. He touched his pant leg and found it soaked with blood; even his shoes were filled with it. Seeing this, Roxy hurried over, touched his calf, then brought her hand to her nose and exclaimed, "You're hurt! How bad is it? Let me take a look!"
Xin Yi waved his hand and stood up while holding onto the wall. "It's nothing! I'm not going to die; I just got shot in the calf. We need to hurry; from the sounds, they must have already entered the yard."
"Alright then, I'll help you walk!" Roxy said without waiting for Xin Yi's response. She put his left arm over her shoulder and helped him climb up the mountain. Sure enough, they hadn't gone far when they heard a commotion coming from Jiao Xinmou's house. There were no other houses above Jiao Xinmou's; it seemed that housing was allocated based on rank—the higher the rank, the closer to the top. Given Jiao Xinmou's rank, he should have been living in one of the uppermost houses. Since there were no houses above, it became increasingly difficult to climb higher, especially with Xin Yi's leg injury slowing them down significantly.
Before long, they heard voices and barking not far from below; the guards were closing in on them with tracking dogs. A chill ran through Xin Yi as he realized that the blood trail from his injured left leg was exactly what the dogs would follow. What could he do? With Roxy needing to support him due to his leg injury, their movement was painfully slow. It wouldn't be long before they were caught; at that point, their weapons would be no match for such a large number of pursuers. Was he really going to die here today? He had avenged his parents' deaths and could die knowing that—but Roxy was innocent; he couldn't let her die with him. With this thought in mind, Xin Yi pushed Roxy away forcefully and said, "Roxy, you go ahead! I'll draw them away!"
"No way!" Roxy immediately rejected without thinking. "If we're leaving, we're leaving together! If we're dying, we're dying together! I absolutely won't leave you behind to escape alone!"
Although Roxy's words touched Xin Yi's heart deeply, he knew this wasn't a time for sentimentality. He said seriously, "I'm already injured and can't move fast enough. Plus, they have tracking dogs that will follow my blood trail—so I have to draw them away! We should split up; maybe we can find a chance to survive. But if we keep dragging this out, we'll both definitely die! Trust me; I'll head up the mountain while you move sideways along this terrain. As long as you break free from their encirclement, there will be hope!"
"No way! I told you—we're leaving together! We're dying together!" Roxy replied firmly. "Lijie told me to come with you and keep an eye on you; if I go back alone, how will I explain it to her?"
"Oh? So Lijie asked you to come watch over me?" Xin Yi momentarily lost focus; it seemed Lijie still cared about him and worried for his safety—otherwise why would she send Roxy after him?
"Yes," Roxy said as she saw Xin Yi's momentary distraction upon hearing Lijie's name. A bittersweet feeling welled up inside her; however, if she could use this to ignite Xin Yi's will to survive, it would be more important than anything else. So she continued, "So even if it's for Lijie’s sake, you shouldn't give up now—let's hurry!"
"No, Roxy, we have no chance of escaping this way," Xin Yi said. "Listen to me, I'll draw them away, you hurry and leave. I don't want you to sacrifice yourself alongside me for nothing."
"What if I want to? What if I say I'm willing to die with you?" Roxy's true feelings finally slipped out. After holding them in for so long, perhaps both of them would die tonight. Being able to express her feelings before death felt like a relief. After saying this, Roxy fixed her gaze on Xin Yi's shadow, waiting for his reaction.
Although Roxy's words stirred a storm in Xin Yi's heart, he did not show it. He knew that the only way to give Roxy a chance to escape was to distance himself from her. So, Xin Yi calmly replied, "Fool, do you think death is something fun? Besides, we are just in a contractual relationship; you are merely an employee of the Three Tiger Group. There’s no need or worth in dying with me. Even if you are loyal to the Boss, if I die as the Boss, there will be no opportunity for you to get promoted or receive a raise. Just go. If you can return safely, please tell Lijie, Shanshan, and Shu Rui that Xin Yi is sorry for them in this lifetime."
