As Taiwan Soldiers struggled with the Jungle Python, Xin Yi was preparing to shoot and take them all down when Yanming Shop Elder suddenly appeared beside him, urging him to leave quickly. Xin Yi understood that Yanming Shop Elder must have his reasons for this, so he didn’t ask further. After regrouping with the other three, they ventured deeper into the jungle. The few Taiwan Soldiers were frantically entangled with the Jungle Python and completely unaware of Xin Yi and his companions' movements. The group quickly disappeared into the dense jungle.
The gunfire continued for about twenty minutes, and after a few loud explosions, it gradually subsided. However, by this time, Xin Yi and the others had not gone far. Hearing the gunfire stop, Topology gasped for breath and asked, "Elder, who do you think won this time? The soldiers or that... thing?" Clearly, Topology was also frightened by the giant python earlier; he was reluctant to even mention the word "python," as if saying it would summon it back. While asking Yanming Shop Elder, he looked up into the treetops, fearing another Jungle Python might be hiding there. In fact, not just Topology, but all of them were quite scared, especially Roxy, whose face was still pale without a trace of color. When Xin Yi had come to urge her to leave earlier, she could barely stand up. Among them, only Yanming Shop Elder remained calm; he had likely seen many giant pythons before and was not as frightened as the others.
Yanming Shop Elder replied, "Did you not hear those last few explosions? It seems that giant python is unlikely to escape this time. Alas, what a pity!"
"Not necessarily," Topology responded skeptically to Yanming Shop Elder. "That thing was also blown up once earlier, right? But it pretended to be dead and waited until people passed by before attacking from behind. It's truly cunning!"
"It’s not that smart," Yanming Shop Elder explained. "That giant python was indeed injured by a grenade; it wasn’t pretending. It was stunned by the powerful blast wave of the grenade and ended up hanging on that branch. Later, when a Border Guard poked its head with a hot gun barrel, it woke up because cold-blooded animals are very sensitive to high temperatures."
"Hahaha... This is what we call 'Heaven's punishment can be forgiven; self-inflicted punishment cannot live!'" laughed Xu Maogong. "If that Taiwan Soldier had just walked past without disturbing it, he wouldn't have ended up in its belly."
"But how can you be so sure that thing is doomed this time?" Topology continued to question. "Maybe it got stunned again?"
At this moment, Roxy had also recovered and couldn’t help but laugh at Topology's words: "Those Taiwan Soldiers can't be more foolish than you, right? Hahaha... They’ve already been fooled by that giant python once; do you think they would fall for it a second time? Would you fall for it again?"
Although they joked along the way, they remained vigilant about their surroundings. In just half a day in the jungle, they had already encountered both a Tricolor Viper and a Jungle Python, and they had no idea how many more dangers awaited them.
By dusk, they arrived at a small stream. After observing the terrain, Yanming Shop Elder decided to camp there for the night. After setting down his backpack, he called for Topology to follow him nearby to gather camping supplies while Xin Yi and Roxy prepared firewood for the night. Xin Yi asked Roxy to walk with him upstream along the stream to collect some dry branches. Walking along the stream provided a fixed reference point so they wouldn’t get lost. Roxy hopped ahead; everything in the jungle seemed new and exciting to her. Of course, sometimes novelty turned into fear—like their encounters with the Tricolor Viper and the Jungle Python. But it seemed that Roxy had already forgotten that fear; all that remained was curiosity.
Suddenly, as she walked ahead, Roxy exclaimed in delight. When Xin Yi approached her, he saw that the stream had made a sudden bend upstream where the flowing water created a large pool due to backflow. The water was crystal clear, revealing smooth pebbles at the bottom of the pool as sediment was carried downstream by the current. The red clouds in the sky reflected beautifully on the water's surface. However beautiful it was, their task now was to gather firewood, so Xin Yi said, "Let’s go get some firewood."
But Roxy stood still without moving. When Xin Yi called her again, she finally murmured, "Xin Yi, I think... ever since last night when we crossed rivers and trekked through sweat-soaked paths, I feel so dirty now... it's unbearable..."
"Are you really planning to bathe here?" Xin Yi realized and said, "Aren't you afraid there might be water snakes in this stream?"
"You... you know I'm afraid of snakes and you're trying to scare me," Roxy said angrily. After hesitating for a moment, as if she had finally made up her mind, she said to Xin Yi, "Then I will wash too. Even if there are water snakes... you will be here to guard me. If there really is a water snake, I'll scream loudly, and you can come help me catch it!"
Hearing Roxy say this, Xin Yi couldn't help but tease her a little, saying, "Are you sure? If there really is a water snake and I come help you catch it, wouldn't that mean I would see you?"
"That's not allowed! If you really go down to help me catch the water snake, you have to close your eyes and not look at me!" Roxy said stubbornly.
"Heh heh, how can I catch a water snake with my eyes closed?" Xin Yi laughed.
"Well, I don't care! You figure it out!" After saying this, Roxy jumped onto a rock by the stream and turned to Xin Yi, saying, "Alright, I'm going to take off my clothes now. Turn around and don't peek!"
Xin Yi smiled wryly as he turned around. He thought to himself that Roxy was quite bold; she dared to undress and bathe in front of him without any cover while asking him not to peek. Wasn't that an outright invitation? But never mind, Xin Yi thought; let's just assume she doesn't understand the traditional culture of Heavenly Pride Nation. If a girl from Heavenly Pride Nation were in such a situation and dared to bathe in front of you while specifically telling you not to peek, if you actually obeyed her and didn't look, it would only disappoint her. The traditional culture of Heavenly Pride Nation is very subtle; especially shy girls often like to say the opposite of what they mean.
He could already hear the rustling sounds behind him; Xin Yi knew that Roxy was taking off her clothes. He had seen Roxy's half-naked body before—just last time at the Troop Guesthouse in the capital. Roxy had boldly come to borrow the bathroom from Xin Yi and after bathing appeared in front of him wearing very little fabric for her underwear. That time, Xin Yi had realized that Roxy's figure was quite alluring. Combined with her charming face, she was practically a test sent by the Buddha for all living beings. However, at this moment, Xin Yi dared not let his thoughts wander. He didn't want to get involved with Roxy in any way; getting entangled with her would undoubtedly be unwise.
So Xin Yi tried his best to control his breathing, focusing on his nose and heart like a monk in meditation, waiting for Roxy to finish bathing quickly. But the more he wanted things to end quickly, the more twists and turns they seemed to take. Suddenly, Roxy screamed loudly: "Ah! A snake!"
Xin Yi thought, no way? There really is a snake? He had only intended to scare Roxy a little; who knew a snake would actually appear? What should he do in this situation? If he didn't go down, he didn't know what Roxy would do herself; what if she got bitten by a venomous snake? But if he went down, he would inevitably see something he shouldn't see. It wasn't possible for him to really close his eyes as Roxy suggested; even if he did close his eyes and relied on touch, who could guarantee he wouldn't touch something inappropriate? It was truly a dilemma. However, after hesitating for a moment, Xin Yi decided that saving someone was more important; even if he saw something he shouldn't see, he could just consider it a loss for his eyes and heart.
So Xin Yi turned around and jumped down into the stream. The scene before him almost made him suffer a loss—what kind of loss? A nosebleed. What kind of nosebleed? A bloody nose. At that moment, Roxy was standing nervously at the edge of the waterhole, her eyes anxiously watching a dark shadow beneath the water. Since she was standing at the edge of the waterhole, the stream only reached her thighs; meanwhile, Roxy was completely naked—an enchanting sight indeed! No wonder Xin Yi almost spurted out blood from his nose; any normal man would find it hard to resist such an alluring scene!
Roxy finally noticed that Xin Yi had jumped down; however, her eyes were fixed directly on her body. She quickly wrapped her arms around her chest and crouched down, exclaiming angrily: "What are you looking at? Hurry up and catch that snake!" Only then did Xin Yi come back to his senses and jumped directly into the waterhole. He genuinely wanted to jump in—not only because catching the snake was one reason but also because he felt hot all over; jumping into the water would be perfect for cooling off and calming himself down. Otherwise, he might really end up doing something inappropriate.
After jumping into the water, Xin Yi realized that the dark shadow was not a water snake at all, but rather a fish. In fact, there were several fish in the pool, likely having just swum over from somewhere else. Roxy had mistaken them for a water snake due to her overactive imagination. Once she understood the situation, Xin Yi walked out of the pool, while Roxy remained crouched there, too scared to move. She asked, "Why aren't you catching them?"
Xin Yi helplessly smiled and said, "Could you please take a better look? They're just a few fish."
"Ah?" Roxy then took a closer look and realized that it was indeed just a few fish. She felt embarrassed for mistaking them for snakes and for exposing herself to Xin Yi unnecessarily. But who could she blame? It was her own fault for not clarifying things first. So, Roxy snapped at Xin Yi, "Then why aren't you getting up?! I need to put on my clothes!"
