Xin Yi also held Shen Shanshan and stood to one side. Shen Shanshan couldn't say a word, trembling slightly. "Just now, I pushed open the door and it was very dark inside. I stepped in and slipped, then you turned on the light. I saw blood all over the floor and two people lying in a pool of blood. I couldn't get up from the ground, and then I saw a knife in the blood. I took the knife and slammed it against the door to pull it over, then I leaned against the door to stand up and came out. After that, I saw a nurse who ran away saying I killed someone, and... that's it, Brother Xin, is that how it happened?" Big Bull recounted everything in one breath, using "then" ten times in his narration. It was clear that although he was still shaken, he could at least recount the events in order.
"Yes, that's right. Remember what you saw and what you just said. No matter who asks you, you must stick to this fact without any contradictions, understand?" Xin Yi said seriously.
"I understand, but Brother Xin, who are these people?" Big Bull asked.
Xin Yi shook his head to indicate that he didn't know either, but it was certain that this was a trap aimed at them. At that moment, chaotic footsteps were heard coming from down the hallway as a large group of doctors, nurses, hospital security personnel, patients, and family members rushed over. Then he took out his phone from his pocket and dialed Lu Jianming's number: "Director Lu, hello! This is Xin Yi. I'm currently at Longchuan City First People's Hospital. After finishing the call, Xin Yi realized that Room 615 was actually Josen's room. That night, after Josen was arrested, he was sent directly to Longchuan City First People's Hospital. This room was designated for serious criminals sent by the police for medical treatment, which is why it was isolated and secured with an iron door. After Josen was admitted to the hospital, he was not considered a key witness in any major case, and due to his status, he wasn't someone anyone would dare to touch. Therefore, Wang Wei only assigned four detectives to guard him in shifts. However, no one expected that something would happen to Josen; it was shocking that an enemy of his would be bold enough to infiltrate the hospital and kill the two detectives on guard.
Normally, someone like Josen, a societal scum, would not be mourned; in fact, there would likely be celebrations with firecrackers for his untimely death. However, due to his special identity as Qiao Qiang's only son, this incident escalated significantly. Qiao Qiang would undoubtedly make a big fuss over this matter, especially since Josen died while in police custody. The crowd couldn't enter, and Xin Yi and his team had no intention of leaving either; both sides were at a standstill. After a short while, several uniformed police officers pushed through the crowd. Upon seeing the police arrive, the crowd hurriedly began describing their assumptions about what had happened. One officer asked seriously while nodding in agreement with the crowd's opinions. A few officers drew their guns and shouted through the iron door at Xin Yi and his team: "Put your hands on your heads! Crouch against the wall! Do not attempt to resist! Otherwise, we will open fire!"
Xin Yi had been leaning against the wall with Shen Shanshan when he heard the police shout. He lifted his head to look at them and calmly said, "Don't make a fuss; I've already notified Director Lu. Until he arrives, you can only stay outside."
A young officer did not believe what Xin Yi said and sneered, "Why should we believe you? Stop wasting time! Do as you're told! Hands on your head and crouch against the wall!"
"What if I don't? You’ll shoot me? Go ahead and try," Xin Yi replied disdainfully. He found this arrogant young officer irritating; while he couldn't handle cases properly, he excelled at showing off in front of the crowd as if everyone needed to know he was a proud and glorious people's policeman.
"You think I wouldn't dare shoot?!" The young officer was furious, his gun trembling in his hand. He had never encountered such an audacious suspect who dared to threaten a police officer. An older officer nearby noticed his agitation and worried that if he acted impulsively, there could be trouble since this was still just a suspect who hadn't made any aggressive moves; police couldn't just fire their weapons indiscriminately. He quickly snatched the gun from the young officer's hand and said, "Xiao Li! Calm down! Let's wait; maybe Director Lu really will come."
"Old Wang, do you believe him? You trust a murderer?" Xiao Li looked at Old Wang incredulously and said angrily.
"What murderer?! Xiao Li, watch your words! You represent the image of the people's police; be mindful of your language! They can only be considered suspects until proven guilty—no one has the right to call them murderers!" Old Wang reprimanded him.
"Right, what this police uncle said makes sense. Young man, take note," Xin Yi said mockingly from behind the iron door.
Thus, Xin Yi and his two companions remained inside the iron door while several armed officers stood outside it with a large crowd of onlookers behind them. This standoff continued until Lu Jianming arrived personally with a team of detectives who quickly evacuated the crowd from the scene and set up a perimeter far away before cautiously entering to take photographs and gather evidence. Professionals were indeed professionals; they were nothing like those initial officers who only brandished their weapons without knowing how to handle real situations—what a waste of taxpayers' money.
Lu Jianming walked directly up to Xin Yi. He initially intended to shake hands but hesitated and refrained from doing so after noticing Big Bull covered in blood and then looking at Shen Shanshan in Xin Yi's arms. He asked, "Xin Yi, what exactly happened here?"
Xin Yi recounted how he received Shen Shanshan's call and rushed to the hospital overnight. Upon arrival, he discovered that Room 615 was a special ward. The iron door was unlocked, so they went straight in. However, Big Bull stumbled into the dark room and slipped into a pool of blood, which led to him being covered in blood. He then narrated the events to Lu Jianming.
Lu Jianming furrowed his brow. According to Xin Yi, it was clearly a case of framing someone. However, if one were to analyze the situation based solely on the case details and the crime scene, the narrative could be entirely different. It was likely that Josen had attempted to rape Shen Shanshan ten days prior but was caught by the police. As Shen Shanshan's boyfriend, Xin Yi harbored resentment and sought revenge. Once he learned that Josen was in Room 615 of the hospital, he brought his accomplice, Big Bull, along with the victim, Shen Shanshan, to seek vengeance. To ensure they could kill Josen, they kidnapped the two police officers guarding him and brutally murdered them before killing Josen. Just as they were about to leave, hospital staff discovered them and called the police. This theory seemed quite plausible and aligned with typical criminal case characteristics—revenge murder. It appeared that Xin Yi was indeed in serious trouble.
After understanding the situation from Xin Yi, Lu Jianming asked the forensic team about their findings. One investigator replied, “Director Lu, our two colleagues from the Criminal Police Team died due to their carotid arteries being severed and excessive blood loss... There are no other injuries; it was a swift death. However, this deceased on the bed suffered severe mutilation; not only is his head unrecognizable due to being hacked beyond recognition, but his body is also covered in stab wounds. “Looks like it won't be easy for me to clear my name this time; the crime scene has been handled quite thoroughly. It seems I am now seen as having such a brutal motive for murder,” Xin Yi shrugged and laughed.
“You know enough now; no need for me to say more. Let's go back to the station and discuss it further,” Lu Jianming said.
