Shen Shanshan quietly watched Xin Yi for a long time, then suddenly reached out and unfastened Xin Yi's nightgown. After the nightgown was removed, Shen Shanshan gently caressed Xin Yi's left shoulder, where two rows of dark purple scars remained—marks left from when Shen Shanshan had bitten him in the hospital last time. As dawn broke slowly, Shen Shanshan finally stopped sobbing and fell into a deep sleep in Xin Yi's arms. Holding this infatuated woman close to him, Xin Yi felt heartbroken seeing her tear-streaked and weary face. She had been through so much and suffered greatly; he would do anything to make her happy—even give up his life without hesitation. Xin Yi silently vowed to ensure her happiness.
Although Xin Yi wanted Shen Shanshan to sleep a little longer, a sudden phone call woke her up. He picked up the phone to find an unfamiliar number. As soon as he answered it, a woman's voice came through: "Hello, is this Xin Yi? This is Roxy. You promised to be my guide last time we met. I arrived in Longchuan last night; can you be my guide today?"
It was Roxy—the mixed-race beauty he had encountered at the Troop Guesthouse in the capital while borrowing a bathroom and later on the train back to Longchuan. From their first meeting, he sensed she was skilled due to her silent movements; this made him suspect that she approached him with ulterior motives. To clarify her true intentions for getting close to him, he agreed to be her guide. Now she was indeed calling him. So Xin Yi pretended not to remember her and asked back, "I'm Xin Yi; but who are you? Roxy? Which Roxy?"
"Oh dear, how could you forget me after we've met twice?" Roxy playfully chided from the other end of the line. "I'm the one who stayed across from you at the Troop Guesthouse in the capital! And on the train last time, you promised to be my guide; you're not going back on your word now, are you?"
"Oh, it's you!" Xin Yi replied as if realizing something. "Sorry about my memory; but I'm a bit busy right now and can't get away. Is there something specific you'd like to see? Could you find someone else to help you?"
"That's fine; I was just casually looking around anyway," Roxy insisted. "Since you're busy, I'll come find you instead; just tell me your address."
"Is that so? Then you tell me where you are, and I'll come find you once I'm done with my tasks," Xin Yi said.
After noting down the address provided by Roxy, Xin Yi hung up the phone. Shen Shanshan rubbed her eyes and asked, "Who was that? So early?"
"It was Roxy. Do you remember her? She's the mixed-race girl we shared a compartment with when we returned from the capital. She wants us to be her guide and show her around Binhai's architecture," Xin Yi replied.
Shen Shanshan shook her head and then nodded, as she had mostly been sleeping on the train and only woke up twice, so she didn't have much impression of Roxy. Now, hearing Xin Yi mention her made her recall a bit, but all she remembered was that Roxy was quite beautiful. Feeling a bit jealous, Shen Shanshan said, "So you agreed to help her? You really embody the traditional virtues of our Heavenly Pride people."
"Hehe, don't be mad, Shanshan. This woman is definitely not simple. If I’m not mistaken, she has a purpose for approaching me. When they arrived at the hotel where Roxy was staying, she had already been waiting at the entrance for quite some time. Today, Roxy was dressed in a white casual outfit with white sneakers on her feet and a red baseball cap on her head. She carried a small beige backpack on her back, looking very pure and charming. This image made it hard for Xin Yi to associate her with the sultry woman from their previous encounter at the guesthouse; this woman really was changeable, he thought to himself.
As the car stopped, Xin Yi rolled down the window and called out to Roxy, "Roxy! We're here! Get in!"
Seeing Xin Yi, Roxy immediately bounced over. Noticing Shen Shanshan sitting in the passenger seat, she instinctively climbed into the back seat and said, "Thank you! If you hadn't helped me, I really wouldn't have found a guide here since I don't know anyone."
Noticing Shen Shanshan's unfriendly expression, Xin Yi hurriedly introduced them: "Shanshan, this is Roxy from our last meeting. Roxy, this is someone I mentioned before; she wasn't feeling well last time we met so she might not remember you. Sorry about that."
"Hello! I'm Shen Shanshan," Shen Shanshan turned around and greeted Roxy lightly.
"Hello! I'm Roxy. Oh, Shen Shanshan—what a lovely name! Last time Xin Yi only told me you were his fiancée but didn't mention your name, right Xin Yi?"
"Yes, Shanshan is my fiancée," Xin Yi replied, and a barely noticeable smile appeared on Shen Shanshan's face. "By the way, what would you like to see? Or what is our itinerary for today?" Xin Yi asked Roxy.
"That depends on your arrangements. You are the Guide, so the itinerary should follow your plan. I don't have any specific requests; you just need to drive me around the city slowly. I'm mainly here to take some photos of modern architecture in Heavenly Pride Nation to bring back. Just do as you see fit," Roxy answered, shaking her camera.
So, Xin Yi drove slowly through the streets of Longchuan, selectively choosing some streets with distinctive architecture. Roxy occasionally pressed the shutter of her camera to capture various buildings and sometimes asked some professional questions. However, Xin Yi was quite blank on this subject; if it were about sneaking into these buildings or doing demolition work, he might have been more knowledgeable. During lunch, Roxy suggested having Western food and mentioned that she had learned from the hotel staff that the most famous Western restaurant in Longchuan, Celebrity Western Restaurant, served authentic Black Pepper Beef Strips. Indeed, Celebrity Western Restaurant was well-known as the best Western restaurant in Longchuan City, something both Xin Yi and Shen Shanshan knew well. Thus, they had no objections and drove over.
Due to the striking beauty of the two women accompanying Xin Yi, they attracted many gazes as soon as they got out of the car, most of which were filled with jealousy. This guy was incredibly lucky; such quality women were rare in all of Longchuan. Just one would be enough to draw everyone's attention, but here he was with two, and they seemed quite close to him—how could that not provoke envy?
Sometimes having beautiful women around could lead to trouble, as was the case now. The three had just sat down and ordered their food when a plump man at a nearby table staggered over with a glass of red wine in hand. It was clear he had drunk too much. Roxy turned to look at him and frowned. "I'm sorry, but I don't know you. If you want to invite me for a drink, you should first ask my boyfriend if it's okay." With that, her beautiful blue eyes turned to Xin Yi across the table.
The man was rebuffed by Roxy but didn't give up. Since this beauty was taken, there was still another one available. He waddled around the table to stand in front of Shen Shanshan and raised his glass again. "Then how about this beautiful lady? Would you mind having a drink with me?"
Shen Shanshan maintained a cold expression and responded just like Roxy: "I'm sorry, but I don't know you either. If you want to invite me for a drink, you should first ask my fiancé if it's okay." After saying this, she also looked at Xin Yi with her beautiful eyes.
