At the moment Shen Shanshan woke up, Josen endured excruciating pain as he pulled out the KF-59-AMP submachine gun from his clothes. Struggling to hold it with both hands, he aimed the dark muzzle at Xin Yi's back, his finger already on the trigger. Xin Yi was completely unaware of what was happening behind her, facing away from Josen. Just as the gunshot rang out, Shen Shanshan caught a glimpse of everything behind Xin Yi through her shoulder. In a moment of desperation, she pulled Xin Yi back onto the bed. Caught off guard, Xin Yi lost her balance and fell onto Shen Shanshan, their positions aligning perfectly as they locked eyes. The air between them stirred with their breaths, oblivious to the bullets that struck the wall above the headboard. For a brief moment, they forgot about the danger surrounding them, lost in a deep gaze that seemed to suggest the entire world existed solely for them.
Having missed his shot, Josen quickly lowered his gun to fire again. Outside, the sound of gunfire alerted those nearby. The first to react was Shu Rui, who shouted Xin Yi's name as she burst through the door. She immediately witnessed the tender scene between Xin Yi and Shen Shanshan on the bed. Following her were Big Bull and Wang Wei. Upon seeing the gun in Josen's hand, Wang Wei wasted no time in firing a shot at him. Sparks flew from the KF-59-AMP as it slipped from Josen's grip and hit the corner of the wall. With a furious roar, Big Bull lunged at Josen, grabbing one of his legs and swinging him around before letting go. By the time Wang Wei tried to intervene, it was too late; Josen's body slammed heavily against the wall, causing it to shake before sliding down softly to the ground, unconscious.
At this moment, Xin Yi and Shen Shanshan regained their senses. Xin Yi hurriedly got off of Shen Shanshan, helping her sit up. Shu Rui approached and asked, "Are you okay, Xin Yi?"
"I'm fine," replied Xin Yi. "And so is Shen Shanshan!"
Misunderstanding her words, Shu Rui thought that Xin Yi meant that Shen Shanshan was unharmed. She walked over and gently touched Shen Shanshan's injured face, saying with concern, "Sister Shen Shanshan, I'm so sorry you had to suffer because of me. I will never let that beast Josen get away with this!" As soon as she finished speaking, she turned towards the unconscious Josen. After checking for signs of life, Wang Wei confirmed he was still alive; as long as he was alive, there was always a chance for him to face justice. Knowing that victims’ families often needed an outlet for their anger—especially since this victim was a close friend’s younger sister—he cooperatively moved towards the door to help clean up the aftermath.
When Shu Rui reached Josen, she glanced at her high heels and suddenly kicked with all her might at his groin. The unconscious Josen, struck by this fatal blow, woke up in agony, clutching himself and convulsing before letting out a scream akin to that of a slaughtered pig. His head tilted awkwardly as he finally succumbed to unconsciousness again. Both Xin Yi and Shen Shanshan, witnessing this act from usually demure Shu Rui, were stunned; they never expected her to unleash such madness. Judging by the force behind her kick and his pained cry, it seemed that from now on, little Josen would have to keep his head down for life. Meanwhile, Big Bull cheered loudly and clapped enthusiastically as if he found great amusement in her actions.
After kicking him, still filled with rage, Shu Rui returned to stand beside Xin Yi and Shen Shanshan. She took one of Shen Shanshan's small hands gently and said, "Sister Shen Shanshan, I've avenged you! Don't be afraid; from now on I will protect you well and won't let any bad people take advantage of you again! This time I was too careless and almost caused a big mistake; can you forgive me?"
"Yes, I forgive you this time!" replied Shen Shanshan, smiling.
"Really?! Thank you, Sister Shen Shanshan! I knew you wouldn't hold it against me! Hehe..." said a delighted Shu Rui. Suddenly she felt something was off; wasn’t Shen Shanshan supposed to be out of her mind? How could she speak so coherently? You take Shanshan to the hospital first; I'll call you once Li Wei has made a decision," Wang Wei said before directing the Criminal Police Team members to take everyone and the evidence back while leaving two officers at the scene to wait for investigators.
Xin Yi thanked Wang Wei and took Shen Shanshan, Shu Rui, and Big Bull back to the car. They drove to the hospital for Shen Shanshan's examination. After the check-up, it turned out that Shen Shanshan only had superficial injuries on her head; there wasn't even a mild concussion. Despite taking several heavy punches from Josen, she was completely fine—a miracle in itself. In comparison, her sudden recovery from mental instability was even more miraculous. Throughout the journey, it seemed like Shen Shanshan and Shu Rui had endless things to talk about until they arrived at Shu Rui's home. If it weren't for Xin Yi reminding Shen Shanshan that they should return home so as not to worry her family, Shen Shanshan might have wanted to stay over at Shu Rui's house for a late-night chat. After bidding farewell to Shu Rui, Shen Shanshan suddenly said in the car to Xin Yi: "Xin Yi, Sister Shu is a very understanding girl who cares deeply for you. You mustn't let her down!"
