In just a few short days, Shu Rui had not eaten well or slept well, and it could be said that she had lost a whole circle of weight. For someone wanting to lose weight, this might be a good thing, but Shu Rui's original figure was already of the golden ratio type; adding a little would be too much, and taking away a little would be too little. After losing this circle of weight, the once radiant young lady of the Shu family now appeared somewhat haggard. Even Wang Fang was worried about Shu Rui; this was no longer the decisive and bold woman she used to be, but rather a lovesick and sorrowful lady. Wang Fang understood that all of this was caused by a man named Xin Yi.
So when Wang Fang saw Xin Yi appear in the corridor, she jumped up from her chair. She hurried out of her office and rushed in front of Xin Yi, saying, "You finally came! Shu Rui is almost going crazy!"
"I'm sorry!" Xin Yi didn't know why he said this; perhaps it was due to his feelings of guilt. "I came to find President Shu."
Wang Fang pointed towards Shu Rui's office and said, "She's inside... she hasn't eaten anything today."
"Then I'll go in and see her," Xin Yi said, feeling a pang in his heart. It seemed he really was deeply at fault.
Xin Yi gently pushed open the door to Shu Rui's office and immediately saw her sitting in a chair, lost in thought. Shu Rui really looked much more haggard now, with two large dark circles under her eyes and a vacant expression. Her once healthy complexion had also dulled. At that moment, Shu Rui's mind seemed to drift somewhere far away; she didn't even notice when Xin Yi walked in.
Xin Yi walked up to Shu Rui and gazed at this woman who had left such a deep impression on him. Their first meeting had been at Hong Tianhu's birthday banquet, where her calm demeanor and expressionless face had made Xin Yi regard her with new respect. Such a woman would surely excel in the business world. Then there was the so-called negotiation regarding their collaboration with Century Spring, which revealed that she also had a playful side. Following that were her composure and decisiveness at the auction, her slight madness during the night chase, and then the surprise he saw in her eyes when he arrived after her kidnapping, along with the innocence he witnessed at her villa. Now, seeing her in such a disheveled state because of him made Xin Yi feel that if he didn't treat her better, it would be a crime. A woman like her surely deserved better treatment from him. However, Xin Yi knew that what she needed might be something he couldn't provide. Sighing softly, he realized that wanting to treat someone well could be so difficult. Nevertheless, Xin Yi felt he couldn't hurt this woman any further—at least not now. As for what would happen later, he could only let things unfold naturally and hope that developments wouldn't cause her more pain.
"Xiaorui, I'm back," Xin Yi said gently.
Shu Rui, who had been lost in thought while sitting in the chair, suddenly jolted as if waking from a dream. She looked up with eyes full of uncontainable surprise and stood up from her chair as if about to rush over to him. However, she ultimately held back; perhaps she felt she wasn't anyone special to Xin Yi. The woman's modesty triumphed over impulse. Although she didn't rush over, the surprise in her eyes gradually turned into grievance as she stood there quietly. Looking into Xin Yi's eyes, tears began to well up; after a moment, they spilled over silently down her cheeks.
Xin Yi felt a sharp pain in his chest—forget it! If it meant dying, then so be it! He stepped forward and gently embraced Shu Rui. Of course, she didn't struggle but gradually shifted from silent tears to soft sobs as if pouring out all the longing and grievances of these past few days through her tears. Xin Yi held her close and gently patted her back like comforting a child. They stood there embracing for an unknown amount of time until Xin Yi felt his shirt front had become quite damp before Shu Rui finally pushed him away shyly and turned to grab some tissues from the table to wipe her face.
Although her eyes were still crimson, it was clear that Shu Rui's mood had improved significantly. Blushing slightly, she said to Xin Yi, "I'm sorry for getting your clothes dirty."
"Hehe, it's fine; it's nothing," Xin Yi replied with a smile.
"What do you mean by 'it's nothing'?" Shu Rui asked playfully with an expectant look in her eyes.
"Cough, cough, it's nothing. I heard from Wang Fang that you haven't eaten anything today. That's not acceptable. Let's go out and grab something to eat!"
"Okay, fine. By the way, how did you get out? Is everything alright now?" Shu Rui began to recall the key details and asked curiously.
"Of course everything is fine. Am I supposed to break out of prison? There was never any issue, and now that the police have cleared things up, I'm back," Xin Yi said casually.
"That's not okay! Are we just going to let this slide? The police can't just arrest people randomly! I have to find a lawyer and sue them!" Once the weight on her heart lifted, Shu Rui regained her strong-willed demeanor, and her fierce words indicated that she had already considered herself part of a family with Xin Yi.
"Haha, it's not that serious. I'll explain the details to you later. Right now, our priority is to go out for a meal!" Xin Yi said as he picked up Shu Rui's bag.
As they passed Wang Fang's office, Shu Rui smiled at Wang Fang and said, "We're going out to eat. If anything comes up, call my phone."
Wang Fang glanced at the two of them and made a gesture towards Shu Rui with a playful smile. Xin Yi didn't understand; it was a private code between Shu Rui and Wang Fang. The gesture meant: Look at you being all lovesick! Shu Rui responded with a gesture that meant: I want to! Who are you to care? Then she walked into the elevator side by side with Xin Yi.
"Let's just grab something quick; it's not really mealtime," Shu Rui said.
"Sure, whatever you say." Their conversation sounded like that of a happy couple.
Xin Yi didn't let Shu Rui drive; they both got into Xin Yi's car. When they passed by a mall, Shu Rui suddenly told Xin Yi to stop the car and said, "Wait for me for a few minutes; I'll be right back." With that, she opened the car door and dashed into the mall.
A few minutes later, Shu Rui ran out holding a box, panting as she jumped into the car. After telling Xin Yi to continue driving, she opened the box and pulled out a phone, fiddling with it for a while before stuffing it into Xin Yi's pocket, saying, "It's ready to use; my number is already saved in there."
"You bought this for me?" Xin Yi asked in surprise while driving.
"Well, of course, you always seem to vanish without a trace. I wanted to find you... but I couldn't reach you to discuss work matters... This is just something the company has provided for you. What? Aren't you going to thank the leadership for their concern?" Shu Rui said.
Uh, that reason seems a bit too bold, doesn't it? However, Xin Yi had been planning to change his habit of not carrying a phone for some time now, as things are different than before. After all, there are many decisions he needs to make for the Three Tiger Group and Beng Hu Lian. Although he has lost some freedom, it does make things more convenient; you gain some and lose some.
"Ahem, thank you, President Shu, for your concern. By the way, can I ask for a raise?"
"Haha... I didn't expect you to joke around! I thought you were just a blockhead," Shu Rui laughed heartily, and that was absolutely true.
Although Shu Rui said she would just grab a bite to eat, Xin Yi didn't expect her to take him to a street stall for cold noodles. Surprisingly, the seemingly refined Shu Rui devoured two bowls in one go and then patted her stomach, saying, "I'm stuffed! I haven't had anything this delicious in ages!"
Seeing Xin Yi's puzzled expression, Shu Rui said, "What are you looking at? Don't understand? Although Junxing Group is wealthy, that's my dad's money. Before I started working at the company, my dad only gave me pocket money based on an average family's standards. When I was in college, I even tutored to earn money. Besides Wang Fang, no one among my classmates knew my dad is Shu Junxing. Even now, I'm just drawing a salary from Junxing Group. The villa you've visited is still under mortgage."
Xin Yi couldn't help but admire Shu Junxing's parenting style. Compared to most families that spoil their children, this approach undoubtedly cultivates various abilities in the next generation. This might also explain why Shu Rui is so capable at such a young age and gave Xin Yi a deeper understanding of her.
"Xiaorui, tonight the Three Tiger Group is hosting a banquet at Wangfu Grand Hotel to welcome the brothers who just joined. You should come along," Xin Yi suggested.
"Oh really?" Shu Rui pondered for a moment and replied, "What would my presence mean at your Three Tiger Group gathering? What identity would I attend with?" After saying that, Shu Rui looked at Xin Yi with hopeful eyes.
Xin Yi smiled and said, "Junxing Group and Three Tiger Group are strategic partners. As the general manager of Junxing Group, of course you can attend in that capacity."
"Well... maybe I'll pass. It's better if I don't get involved in your internal matters," Shu Rui answered with a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. It wasn't that she didn't want to go; she just didn't want to attend in that capacity. Of course, if Xin Yi could let her participate under a different identity, she would be quite willing.
"And aren't you my friend? You've been quite concerned about my matters during this time. Isn't it sincere enough for me to invite you?"
"Who has been worrying about your matters?! Who told you that? How come I didn't know?" Although Shu Rui said this defiantly, she couldn't help but blush when she recalled how she had cried in someone else's arms just moments ago.
"Hehe, Wang Fang told me. What, you haven't been worried about my matters? It seems Wang Fang has tricked me," Xin Yi pretended to act aggrieved as if she had been deceived.
"Alright! That little girl actually dared to sell me out! Just wait until I get back; I'll deal with her!" Shu Rui said through gritted teeth, though there was no anger in her eyes.
"By the way, let's invite Wang Fang over tonight."
"What reason do we have to call Wang Fang? Are you two good friends too?" Shu Rui said with a mischievous smile.
"Well, don't you think Dali... the one who saved you last time, has a strange attitude towards Wang Fang? I want to take this opportunity to let them interact a bit more. If there's a chance, it could lead to something. Oh, by the way, Dali is already helping me with some work; he's a really good man," Xin Yi said.
"Now that you mention it, it does seem a bit odd. I'll invite Wang Fang over tonight then. But Xin Yi, I didn't expect you to be so nosy; you're acting like a matchmaker now, haha..."
"Hehe..." Xin Yi laughed awkwardly. Indeed, it's quite a joke that a top assassin is playing matchmaker.
After dropping Shu Rui off at her company, Xin Yi drove back to her farm. She needed to calmly consider her next steps. Since Josen had brought things to this point, Xin Yi also needed to take the initiative. First, she would clear out all his territories before anything else. Xin Yi didn't want to kill him so easily; since they were playing games in this circle, she would follow the rules of the game and defeat him thoroughly using those very rules!
