Originally thinking he could save everyone and be a hero, Li Nan found himself involuntarily caught up and about to be sent into the rotating turbine of the Ventilation Fan.
Li Nan felt the thrill of flying, yet his mind was filled with the fear of death. In an instant, many figures flashed before him, and he mournfully thought, "Is this how I'm going to die? I still can't bear to leave this world!"
Li Nan maintained a straight posture, being swept up by the wind like a feather. That sense of helplessness, the terror of death looming over him, and the desire to survive all surged within him as if in chaos. Yet, in that moment, Li Nan remained surprisingly calm, allowing him to observe something.
"The carousel horse is not easy to deal with; just cut its legs!" At the moment Li Nan soared into the air, he suddenly noticed that the bottom of the massive Ventilation Fan was supported by a Cross Frame, and he immediately devised a plan.
Fortunately, his Submachine Gun was still in hand. With lightning speed, Li Nan aimed the gun at the Cross Frame.
With three loud bangs, he hit his target.
Li Nan's shooting skills were hardly reliable; however, the strong wind helped correct the bullets' trajectory just in time. As a result, two out of three bullets struck the load-bearing part of the iron frame, causing it to collapse instantly, and the Ventilation Fan suddenly fell to the ground. Since the rotating turbine had crashed down, its position changed, and the wind direction shifted from below. The fierce wind around Li Nan vanished in an instant.
Li Nan couldn't help but feel pleased. "At least I was a hero for once, even though the process was a bit bumpy!"
At that moment, hanging in mid-air, he realized, "Damn it! I'm going to fall on my butt again!"
Sure enough, 0.01 seconds later, Li Nan's backside hit the ground once more.
As the wind ceased in the entire ventilation duct, ten big men were still somewhat slow to react.
Liu Ziming shouted, "What happened? Did we lose power again?"
Someone nearby replied, "This isn't a power outage; that crazy Electric Machine probably malfunctioned! What a pity!"
At that moment, Han Guang said, "Li Nan succeeded; he saved us!"
After falling to the ground, Li Nan noticed something was off. "Wait a minute; this is the Control Room! Why are there so many Zombies here?"
Li Nan couldn't help but exclaim as a group of Zombies detected a small Zombie's presence and immediately pounced on it.
In such strong winds, even a panda could be blown away and turn into a polar bear, let alone the little disguise of Li Nan. Previously, it was precisely because his disguise got soaked that he ended up in such a sorry state.
Just out of the wolf's den and into the tiger's lair, Li Nan truly marveled at the twists and turns of life!
Hundreds of zombies were charging towards Li Nan like madmen, yet he remained remarkably calm. "Well, it's inevitable to die; the sooner the better for reincarnation!"
Just when Li Nan was feeling disheartened, the zombie at the front suddenly trembled and seemed to be bound by a tremendous force, heading straight for the fallen ventilation fan.
Seeing this, Li Nan was first surprised, then understood the deeper meaning behind it, and couldn't help but laugh heartily. "Don't think that just because there are many of you, I can't handle you. Just watch me wipe you all out this time!"
With Li Nan as bait, those zombies had no reason not to charge forward recklessly. They didn't care how the zombies in front were sucked into the exhaust fan; after all, in the world of gluttons, you wouldn't understand!
Sure enough, that massive exhaust fan became the graveyard for these hundreds of zombies! All the zombies that rushed up were swept away by the powerful wind, followed by a sound of slicing and crushing that made Li Nan feel ecstatic and proud.
Meanwhile, a head poked out from the ventilation hole in the control room shouting, "Aren't you coming up? Are you waiting for the zombies to surround you?"
Li Nan disregarded him. "I'm enjoying a good show! Such explosive scenes and bloody visuals are hard to come by back home!"
Han Guang in the ventilation hole was also astonished. He didn't expect that Li Nan not only resolved a major crisis but also cleared out most of the zombies in the control room effortlessly. Truly impressive.
Moments later, all the zombies had been dealt with, and the fallen exhaust fan had stopped spinning due to being clogged with too many things. But it didn't matter; after all, the zombies were completely wiped out.
Li Nan felt happier than winning a five-million-dollar prize, so he didn't even notice the pain in his backside.
Zhang Li saw this scene in the control room and praised him endlessly. Not wanting to stay any longer in the foul-smelling control room, Li Nan immediately climbed up through a belt leading to the ventilation hole.
Compared to his clumsy descent earlier, this time Li Nan was quite fortunate; the belt held firm as he climbed up steadily.
Zhang Li patted Li Nan on the shoulder and said, "Not bad! Well done!"
Li Nan also appreciated his own courage, but in front of so many national treasures, he did not dare to boast. He simply said, "To survive, human potential is limitless!"
Han Guang laughed and said, "The fist and footprint near the vent are all your doing, right? Truly limitless potential!"
Li Nan chuckled, while Zhang Li continued, "The underground power system has been restored, and all the Zombies have been eliminated. It seems our mission is quite successful. As long as we crawl out of this ventilation duct, we will see the light of day again!"
Liu Ziming and the others cheered, and Zhang Li added, "The credit for this goes to Comrade Li Nan. If it weren't for him, we might have faced greater sacrifices or perhaps wouldn't have made it out at all!"
This statement made Li Nan feel quite embarrassed. "If it weren't for me, we wouldn't have ended up down here, nor would we have gone through such perilous situations. I, Li Nan, have let down the four brothers who died!"
The topic suddenly became heavy, and Zhang Li wisely decided to end this discussion. After all, they had not yet made it out; it was a bit premature to celebrate.
Without further ado, the group had to crawl from the Control Room area, with Li Nan still at the back.
The eleven of them moved like a long snake through the ventilation duct, but thinking about being able to get out soon filled everyone with joy.
Although Li Nan's actions in the ventilation duct saved everyone's lives and eliminated hundreds of Zombies, he was also seriously injured. His pants were torn from crawling through the duct, so he had taken off his jacket and wrapped it around his waist.
Li Nan gritted his teeth, enduring the pain in his rear end. His right arm was still not fully healed; the combination of new injuries and old pains made beads of sweat form on his forehead.
"Just hold on a little longer; once we get out of this vent, we'll be free!" Li Nan comforted himself without a hint of doubt.
Now that all the Zombies underground had been dealt with and the power system restored, what else could go wrong? Not only did Li Nan think this way, but others in the team felt the same. As long as they got out of this duct, they would immediately return to the surface. But was that really the case?
Li Nan was determined that he would soon see Gao Xue. This underground journey made him realize many things: life is fragile, and some happiness must be grasped by oneself. So when he returned to the surface, he planned to explain everything clearly to Gao Xue and even propose to her on the spot.
Just thinking about it made him a bit excited!
As they crawled through the vent from the Control Room, Han Guang pointed out marks on the metal sheet to show Li Nan. Li Nan found it hard to believe. "This metal sheet is backed by poured concrete; how could it possibly be dented by a fist?"
Han Guang said, "The functions of the human body are indeed very mysterious. You study medicine, so you should understand this better than I do. The potential abilities of humans in dangerous situations are astonishing. Do you know the story of Li Guang shooting a tiger?"
Li Nan, although coming from a science background, had some understanding of traditional history. "The Flying General Li Guang once got drunk and mistakenly thought a stone tiger lying in a grass nest was a real tiger. He immediately drew his long bow and shot an arrow, hitting the stone tiger right in the neck. The next day, when Li Guang realized that the 'tiger' was actually a stone statue, he was astonished. Han Guang smiled, "This story explains your actions perfectly!"
Li Nan chuckled, "How could I dare to compare myself to Flying General Li Guang? I'm just an ordinary person!"
"Maybe you're not an ordinary person at all?" Han Guang said as he crawled forward using both hands and feet.
"What do you mean?" Li Nan found Han Guang's statement very strange and out of context, but Han Guang ignored him.
Feeling frustrated, Li Nan decided not to dwell on Han Guang's words, thinking it was just a joke. He continued crawling, though he could definitely feel the pain in his backside!
After crawling for a while, Zhang Li called out from ahead, "We've reached the location of Area 1. Should we go down from here?"
Actually, Zhang Li was asking Li Nan, who was more familiar with the geography of this underground area. It was better to consult him before making any decisions.
After thinking for a moment, Li Nan concluded that since all the zombies had been dealt with, there shouldn't be any danger left in this Underground Morgue. Therefore, it didn't matter where they went down. However, crawling through this ventilation duct was quite uncomfortable, so Li Nan decisively told those in front of him, "Tell Captain Zhang Li that we will go down through the vent in Area 1!"
