After chatting for more than ten minutes, Li Nan finally said, "At that time, a group of police officers rushed in, and I dropped the Fire Axe in my hand, but I fainted due to exhaustion. I don't know if that little girl was hurt!" 0

Of course, in Li Nan's description, he clearly embellished his heroic part, wanting to score points in front of Mo Xiaohui. 0

Just a moment ago, he was teasing Gao Xue, and now Li Nan was flirting with Mo Xiaohui. Although it's typical for men to be fickle, Li Nan's change in demeanor was a bit too quick! 0

Mo Xiaohui stood in front of Li Nan's stretcher, listening intently and responding, "Is that all?" 0

Li Nan nodded, "I don't know what happened after I fainted; I just woke up in this hospital. Is there a problem?" 0

Mo Xiaohui frowned, "So you didn't see the criminal being shot dead by the police?" 0

Li Nan didn't understand why Mo Xiaohui asked that but simply replied, "I didn't see it; I have no idea what happened afterward. However, the police claimed that the person was shot dead. Could that be false?" 0

Mo Xiaohui remained noncommittal but suddenly turned off the recording pen in her hand and murmured, "But someone insisted that you saw it!" 0

Hearing Mo Xiaohui say this, Li Nan felt a bit agitated and immediately asked defiantly, "Who said that?" 0

Mo Xiaohui replied, "Captain Han Guang from the Jiangbei District Police Station." 0

Li Nan's mind suddenly jolted as he recalled what Han Guang had said in the police car; so that's where the trap lay! 0

Li Nan's expression turned somewhat unpleasant as he awkwardly smiled, "Miss Mo, my head is a bit concussed, so my memory isn't very good. Now I remember that I did see the criminal being shot dead by the police right in front of me. At that moment, everything was chaotic; I was so scared that I was confused!" 0

Mo Xiaohui asked without hesitation, "Do you remember who fired the shot? Was it Han Guang?" 0

Li Nan felt a bit distressed. Although he didn't know why Han Guang lied, he had to help him cover up this lie. 0

"It was Han Guang who fired the gun; I remember now, it was definitely Han Guang!" Li Nan's thoughts followed Mo Xiaohui's hints, so when faced with her question, he merely echoed her words with a glimmer of hope. Who knew how Han Guang had conveyed information to the public at that time! 0

Mo Xiaohui couldn't help but smile. "Mr. Li, you really need to think this through. A headshot like that can only be done by a sniper. Are you sure it was Han Guang who fired the shot?" 0

As a journalist, Li Nan was quite logical and soon realized that Han Guang couldn't possibly be that skilled. He quickly denied, "I remember now, it was a sniper hidden nearby who fired the shot, definitely not Han Guang!" 0

Mo Xiaohui grinned widely, unable to contain her laughter. "It seems what Han Guang said was a lie. You never even saw the criminal get shot!" 0

"Am I wrong?" Li Nan felt that despite being a bit repetitive, he was still logical. 0

Mo Xiaohui looked up, glancing around and noticing it was late; there wasn't a soul in the corridor, just her and Li Nan lying on the stretcher. 0

"You were half right. While I have my doubts about whether that criminal was actually killed, there's one thing you got wrong: if that person was indeed killed, it must have been by Han Guang. His marksmanship is extraordinary; no one in Jiangbei City can compare to him, not even the snipers in the military!" 0

Li Nan was taken aback. "Is he really that good?" 0

Mo Xiaohui nodded and continued, "Clearly, Han Guang is intentionally lying. To gain social acceptance for the news of the criminal's death, he included you in his lie, but I've exposed you!" 0

Li Nan looked at Mo Xiaohui's serious expression and couldn't help but say, "Is this really a lie? I feel like it's not a lie. Although I'm still in the hospital, I can already guess what's happening outside. The case at Beiyuan Square is clearly not as simple as it seems on the surface, so panic has already spread among the public, which could easily lead to social instability. Considering this, the police claim that the criminal has been killed to minimize negative impact. If this is also a lie, then it's just a benevolent lie!" 0

Mo Xiaohui's eyes lit up as she said, "Are you studying medicine or doing stand-up comedy? You're quite eloquent!" 0

Li Nan chuckled, "I often watch your show; it's just influence from that!" 0

Mo Xiaohui laughed as well. "Now let me ask you some details without worrying about whether that criminal was killed or not. I heard from my colleagues' reports from the scene that the criminal had bloodshot eyes and didn't feel pain even after losing an arm, and instead of blood, he was leaking a black viscous liquid. Is this true?" 0

Hearing this, Li Nan's heart tightened as he quickly deflected, "I can't remember those details clearly anymore, but thinking about it logically, I know that's false. When someone is inflamed or infected with a skin disease, their eyes might turn red. As for not feeling pain, that only happens if they've been anesthetized or if their pain nerves are blocked. But look at that criminal; he injured several people and moved swiftly—there's no way he could have experienced any of those conditions. And as for not bleeding but leaking black liquid—that's pure nonsense! Who would believe such absurdity?" 0

"But I do!" Mo Xiaohui stared at Li Nan's face and continued, "Have you heard of the Zombie story?" 0

Li Nan shook his head, "That's a novel, a fictional thing; it could never happen in reality!" 0

Mo Xiaohui defended, "Before Apollo, who would have thought that humans could land on the moon? Before the pandemic spread, who would have thought that Ebola could take thousands of lives? Nothing is impossible!" 0

Li Nan was taken aback by this statement. He never expected that beneath Mo Xiaohui's stunning exterior lay a heart of dialectical idealism, and one that was quite extreme. 0

Li Nan had no words to say. After a long pause, he finally replied, "Why do you think that way?" 0

Mo Xiaohui said, "I have no reason; it's just a woman's intuition!" 0

Li Nan couldn't help but burst out laughing, "It's just a whim, yet you speak so confidently. You almost had me convinced!" 0

While Li Nan was laughing, he noticed Gao Xue walking towards him. 0

It was nearly eleven o'clock at night, and there were hardly any patients left in the hospital. The few people who had come in with Li Nan had already been properly arranged; some were sent to the wards, while others were taken to the Morgue. At this moment, the entire hospital felt very quiet. 0

As Gao Xue turned the corner of the hallway, she immediately saw Li Nan lying on a stretcher talking to a woman and even laughing together, seemingly quite intimate. 0

Gao Xue was holding a cup of warm water, which she had brought out of concern for Li Nan's thirst. She never expected that during her absence, Li Nan would charm another woman, and judging by her figure, she was quite beautiful! 0

The cup of water spilled onto the floor as an angry figure turned and walked away. 0

Seeing Gao Xue angrily throw down the cup, Li Nan realized something was wrong. He quickly got off the stretcher and said to Mo Xiaohui, "Hey, I'm sorry. I have some personal matters to attend to, and it's getting late. You should head back. If you want to know more about the Beiyuan Square Incident, you can find me tomorrow!" 0

Li Nan hurriedly followed after Gao Xue and soon disappeared down the hallway. 0

Mo Xiaohui did not see Nurse Gao Xue and therefore did not understand what Li Nan meant. However, seeing that it was indeed getting late and fearing it might become awkward if she stayed longer, she reluctantly decided to leave as well. 0

Mo Xiaohui was indeed beautiful, probably around twenty-four or twenty-five years old, young and intellectual, exuding a goddess-like aura. Any man would find it hard to look away from her, and Li Nan was no exception. However, compared to Mo Xiaohui, it was clear that Gao Xue was the woman Li Nan should focus on. A man should cherish the woman by his side rather than be enchanted by beautiful flowers. There is a saying: the goddess is in the dream, but the wife is by the bedside; dreams should not ruin life. 0

Thus, Li Nan pursued Gao Xue, intending to clarify things. His earlier flirtation with Mo Xiaohui was merely a small act of cunning typical of men and should not be taken seriously. 0

The entire corridor was empty. Mo Xiaohui looked around and noticed how desolate it felt, causing her to shiver involuntarily. 0

Hospitals have a way of creating a sense of oppression, whether due to psychological effects or other reasons, and Mo Xiaohui was no exception. When she had asked Li Nan about things, she hadn’t paid attention to her surroundings. However, once Li Nan left, she felt an unsettling sensation. 0

"I should leave quickly!" Mo Xiaohui thought to herself as she walked out. 0

Mo Xiaohui was located on the fourth floor in the emergency room. It would take two or three minutes to get downstairs. She had come from the direction where Li Nan had walked away, but in an instant, she noticed a staircase on her right side. Thinking it would be faster to go that way, she did not return via the route she had taken. 0

On the right side of the corridor, just a few steps away, was a closed Yellow Wooden Door. As Mo Xiaohui approached it and gently knocked, the door creaked open. 0

The dim yellow light in the stairwell did not raise any suspicions for Mo Xiaohui; she simply wanted to leave the hospital as quickly as possible and unconsciously quickened her pace. 0

"Clang clang clang~" The sound of her high heels echoed on the stairs, and the entire hallway seemed to resonate with noise. 0

Mo Xiaohui forced a smile and said to herself, "Am I being overly nervous? Why do I feel so paranoid?" 0

She relaxed her brow and began to slow down her pace, trying to calm her nerves. "How many floors have I walked down?" Mo Xiaohui pondered while continuing down without stopping. She thought that she couldn't leave until she reached the bottom of the stairs when in fact, she had already descended to the basement level of Jiangbei City First Hospital. 0

The underground structure of the hospital was not a good place to be. By the time Mo Xiaohui realized something was off, her legs were already trembling like a sieve. 0
