Xinran had been holed up in her apartment for five days, sleeping until noon each day, getting up to eat something simple, and then continuing to lounge in bed, letting her mind be troubled by a jumble of thoughts without bothering to find something to do to dispel them.
"Summer, you're back! Why didn't you contact me? I thought that guy Mu Shaosi had kidnapped you in Japan!"
Early on the sixth day, Xinran's phone rang incessantly. Still drowsy, she hadn't even opened her eyes as she fumbled for her phone and pressed the call button. The next moment, Jerry's somewhat noisy voice echoed in her ear.
"About time." Xinran replied lazily.
"Are you still sleeping? Hurry up and get up; I'll take you out for breakfast." Jerry could tell from Xinran's voice that she was still half-asleep, thinking he was just a figment of her dreams.
"Don't..." And then there was silence.
After a while, Jerry hung up the phone in frustration, grabbed his keys, put on his shoes, and left his house. Since this woman lived on the same floor as him, he was determined to drag her out for breakfast. He knew her too well; if she said she wanted to rest, she would sleep until well past noon. Forget breakfast; she probably hadn’t eaten anything for days.
As her manager and friend, he couldn't just let Summer, who was on the brink of collapse, sleep through it all!
"Hey, are you awake? My God, how long have you been sleeping?" Walking into Xinran's small apartment, Jerry was greeted by darkness; this woman had drawn all the curtains, creating an incredibly effective horror set.
"I'm really tired, Jerry. Just leave me alone..."
"At least you're not completely out of it; you know who I am!" Jerry shook his head helplessly and turned to the kitchen to make coffee. At times like this, only her beloved Irish coffee could wake her up.
"Well... it smells so good." Xinran leaned against the headboard, holding a cup of fragrant coffee and taking a deep breath.
"What an ungrateful woman." Jerry shot a glare at Xinran, speaking resentfully.
"Hey, where am I ungrateful? I just wanted to wait until I had enough rest before contacting you..." Xinran took a light sip of her coffee and said softly.
"I ask you, what exactly happened between you and Mu Shaosi? Didn't you go to Japan to visit him after he got injured? Why did you stay there for so long? And he hasn't recovered yet? Why didn't he come back with you?"
"You asked so many questions; where should I start answering?" Xinran smiled lightly and asked.
"I don't care; just tell me everything until I'm satisfied!"
"Sigh..." Xinran sighed, "There are too many entangled matters between us. I don't even know how to explain it to you. Anyway, I escaped from Japan this time, that's all..."
"Escaped? Don't tell me he was abusive, not only hitting you but also forcing you and even imprisoning you?" Jerry's eyes widened in shock as he asked.
"Fan Jierui, what are you thinking? Your mind is filled with unhealthy thoughts!" Xinran rolled her eyes at Jerry.
"Then what about him..."
"Don't mention him. Just thinking about him gives me a headache. Didn't you say you would accompany me for breakfast? You didn't just come to hear gossip, did you?"
"Hmph, it's only if you're willing to get out of bed that we can have breakfast!" Jerry pouted, then suddenly seemed to remember something and turned to ask, "When do you plan to return to the set? Director Xu scolded me harshly before reluctantly agreeing to shoot someone else's scenes first and leave yours for last!"
"Just these two days, I've rested enough. It's time to find something to do. I've been silent for a while, and I doubt there are many who remember me!" Xinran said with a faint smile, mocking herself.
"Fool, are you belittling yourself? Don't forget your previous progress. Just a few days ago, I received several invitations for variety shows asking you to be a guest," Jerry replied.
"Jerry, you're the only one who truly cares about me." Xinran jumped off the bed and walked over to hug Jerry. She unexpectedly recalled what Mu Shaosi had said; he wanted her to stay in Japan as his wife and even intended for her to give up the hard-earned career she had built.
Regardless of whether his love for her was genuine or shallow, she didn't resist the idea of giving up her career for love. The entertainment industry is a place that quickly forgets people, and sooner or later, she would fade away. However, what she resisted was Mu Shaosi's domineering behavior, which seemed to force her into a certain path, making her feel like she had lost her autonomy and creating an unreal sensation...
