"Everyone, I'm sorry for startling you!" Xinran sincerely bowed to the paparazzi in their seats, "What just happened was just a small incident. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but I will be the only one answering. Augus might need to change his clothes!"
Everyone nodded in agreement, so Augus, accompanied by Hiya, exited to change. Then someone spoke up, "Summer, I heard you say that the crazy woman just now is the one spreading rumors about you. Who exactly is she? Do you have some deep-seated grudge against her?"
"I'm sorry, but I don't want to answer that question. Today's press conference is meant to explain my breakup with Augus. If anyone has questions regarding that matter, I will answer them!" Xinran's attitude was firm. Because of Xia Wenyiyi, things had already escalated beyond control. If she retaliated in the same way, it would only lead the paparazzi to make the situation even worse, ultimately harming more people. Therefore, even if she wanted Xia Wenjing to face a bad end, she wouldn't foolishly involve the paparazzi.
Due to the unexpected gasoline incident and Augus's early exit, the press conference quickly came to an end. Xinran also understood that aside from what the paparazzi asked about their breakup, they would be even more interested in the gasoline incident involving Xia Wenjing. Even if she chose not to respond, they would find other channels to dig deeper into it. She could no longer control how things would develop; she could only try her best to protect those around her from harm!
"Are you really not hurt? Should we go to the hospital for a check-up?" Xinran returned to the lounge and glanced at Augus, who was reclining on the sofa. Her tone wasn't very pleasant. She was angry because of Augus's heroic act earlier; she knew she should be grateful since he had shielded her from being splashed with gasoline. However, she felt anxious and would rather have taken the hit herself than let it affect him. What if it hadn't been gasoline but something else?
"Summer, are you concerned about me?" Augus suddenly sat up elegantly, crossing his legs and tapping his fingers on his knee.
"I'm concerned about myself! If what Xia Wenjing splashed was sulfuric acid, I'd be stuck taking care of you for the rest of my life!"
Augus suddenly burst into laughter at her glare; this woman clearly cared about him yet spoke such harsh words—how adorably conflicted!
"What are you going to do about that crazy woman? Don't tell me you're just going to let her off the hook!"
"Of course not! A person's patience has its limits. They keep pushing me; why should I pretend to be virtuous?" Xinran said softly, her eyes seemingly lost in thought as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. After a moment, she turned to face Augus and casually asked, "Why do I have a feeling that you somehow knew someone would come today to disrupt the press conference and even intended to harm me? And that person would be Xia Wenjing?"
"You think too much!" Augus shook his head with a smile, secretly pondering that having a woman who was too clever wasn't necessarily a good thing. He hadn't said a word, yet Xinran could pick up on clues from his demeanor—had his acting skills declined?
This was a gift arranged for her by her elder brother. If she revealed everything before he arrived, wouldn't it lose its meaning?
"Did I really overthink this?" Xinran stood up, closing in on Augus, her eyes fixed intently on him!
"Ask my brother; he can give you the answer!" Augus turned his head and happened to see his elder brother stepping through the door. He quickly jumped up and stepped aside, saying, "I have something else to attend to. I'll leave you two to talk slowly. I'll help clear the area; feel free to chat!"
