Breathing in deeply, a sense of lightheadedness washed over me, and an inexplicable familiarity with Voodoo Town emerged, a phenomenon known as the lingering fragrance, unique to Voodoo Town.
Fengyin informed Jinse that while this scent was harmless to the human body, it could also disturb one’s mind at certain times. If the mist thickened further, it would act like a secret potion, making one unable to extricate themselves from its allure, lost in bliss.
It was not poison; rather, Voodoo Town naturally had such mist swirling around, which explained why so many wandering souls chose to hide away here.
Rumors spread that the Demon Path Master Ying Wuxie had reemerged. The legendary sword Yingyue had been seized by Ying Wuxie's enemies years ago. After a decade, Ying Wuxie finally avenged his family and reclaimed the treasured sword. Now, with the Moonlight Sword back in circulation, the legendary blade concealed secrets of immortality and a gateway to another world—the demon realm.
Thus, people from all walks of life flocked to Voodoo Town to hunt down the remnants of this demonic sect.
With the help of the Seven Night Demon Lord, the Demon Path Master vanished amidst the siege by these individuals. The mist in Voodoo Town thickened around the spot where he disappeared, forcing those pursuing him to retreat. Their actions had already provoked the ire of Voodoo Town's inhabitants; the peaceful town would not tolerate disturbances.
Days later, at the site of the Demon Path Master's disappearance, Yingyue Villa suddenly appeared. Such a bizarre occurrence naturally drew attention once more. When Fengyin and Jinse arrived in Voodoo Town, it was just the second day since Yingyue Villa's emergence. Many were gathered outside its gates, including old monsters from Voodoo Town who were equally curious; having lived there for decades, they had never noticed a villa nearby.
The sudden appearance of this villa led many to believe that the ancient Ying Family possessed some mystical power. The legendary Yingyue indeed seemed capable of opening a portal to another world. People were filled with curiosity and desire for exploration; thus, numerous skilled individuals ventured alone into Yingyue Villa, only to become lost within its layers of mist. Those fortunate enough to return were left dazed and muttering about how delightful it was there.
In a tavern, after hearing various tales, Jinse frowned and said, "It sounds terrifying. Should we still go to Yingyue Villa?"
Fengyin also furrowed her brow. "Don't be afraid; illusions are merely reflections of our thoughts. As long as we face ourselves honestly, we can see through the delusions." These words echoed what a faceless man had told her during a dream while playing chess.
Every mortal has dreams; dreams can feel real and leave one confused about what is true or false within them. As they say, Life Is But a Dream; treat this life as if it were just a dream—no matter if this dream shatters, there will always be another dream waiting.
Fengyin and Jinse decided to head towards Yingyue Villa. Gazing at the faint outline of the villa shrouded in mist ahead, Fengyin said to Jinse, "Let’s hold hands. No matter what strange things happen, just remember to hold my hand. Otherwise, I won’t know what might occur. But it's best to be cautious."
The two made their way toward Yingyue Villa. Upon entering the mist, it felt like stepping into an ethereal realm—magnificent palaces surrounded them with celestial music wafting through the air. Young maidens floated by gracefully; cranes danced in the sky while beauties adorned the ground like clouds, accompanied by harmonious melodies.
"Welcome, esteemed guests! Life is fleeting and joy is scarce; please stay awhile," a melodious female voice greeted warmly, evoking an irresistible sense of intimacy.
"Wow, this place is so beautiful. Every breath I take seems to make me forget my worries," Jinse said lightly, her mouth slightly open.
"Is it really that good? What do you see?" Fengyin asked, puzzled. To her, this place was just foggy and empty, and the villa was right ahead; they were almost there.
"I want to stay here," Jinse said dreamily as she walked toward the left front, where the fog was thicker, already straying from the direction of the villa.
"Jinse, come back," Fengyin pulled Jinse, but she insisted on moving forward. "Jinse, wake up! What you see isn't real."
"It is real. Everything is real. If I become an immortal, I won't have any worries," Jinse murmured. "Xuan Li, why are you here too?"
Jinse actually mistook Fengyin for Xuan Li. Fengyin frowned and repeated that it wasn't real, pulling the confused Jinse back toward the villa.
"Ah, don't go there, Xuan Li! It's dangerous; that's a cliff."
"Yes, yes, yes! We are going to the cliff," Fengyin said as she led the frightened Jinse to the door of the villa.
She pressed her small hand against the door knocker and knocked. The sound surprisingly brought the dazed Jinse back to reality. Jinse blushed and asked, "Where's Xuan Li?"
"Xuan Li isn't here," Fengyin replied softly. "Jinse, did you see something? You're so entranced."
"Uh..." Jinse lowered her head, her face still red.
A child opened the large door of the villa and looked at Fengyin and Jinse with curiosity. "Are you guests from afar?"
Fengyin nodded. "I'm here to find someone."
The child pouted. "There's no one here." Indeed, there was no one here; only demons remained.
Jinse's face immediately turned pale. "I'm looking for my father—no, I'm looking for the Demon Path Master."
"Are you looking for our Young Master?" the Child glanced at Jinse.
Young Master? If I'm not mistaken, Ying Wuxie, the Demon Path Master, is already in his forties. Is he still a Young Master?
Fengyin and Jinse exchanged glances and nodded lightly.
"Alright, then follow me."
The two followed the Child into the mysterious Yingyue Villa.
After wandering around for an unknown amount of time, they finally arrived at a pavilion with the words "Yingyue" inscribed above. On either side of the grand entrance stood white jade sculptures of the Kiss Beast. The Kiss Beast is one of the Nine Offspring of the Dragon, known for its gluttonous nature. It's usually carved on rooftops, so seeing it placed beside a door was a first.
Legend has it that the Elder Dragon, one of the dragon's offspring, could never be satisfied and could only quell his hunger with human flesh. Thus, the Elder Dragon began to consume people—specifically those who were disloyal or shameless. Eventually, one day, he had devoured all the villains in the world but still felt hungry. His beloved fairy couldn't bear to see him suffer and transformed into a Witch, pretending to be malevolent. In the end, the Elder Dragon consumed the woman he loved deeply. When he realized this fact, he was heartbroken and took his own head off, consuming his own body. To commemorate this tragic love story, people began to refer to the Elder Dragon as the Kiss Beast. Because the Elder Dragon only preyed on lowly individuals, his statue was carved on rooftops as a means of warding off scoundrels and ensuring a peaceful life.
"You two, our Young Master and the Seven Night Demon Lord have gone to Turning Point Cliff. Feel free to wander around until Young Master returns; I'll come find you," said the Child before turning to leave, leaving Jinse and Fengyin staring at each other in confusion about this hospitality.
"This is dragon blood, brothers! The old dragon had a toothache and asked me to help him pull it out. I spent quite some time just to get this little bit."
"Hush hush hush, I smell humans."
"Humans?!" That is almost as delicious as dragon blood!
