Upon hearing the sudden voice of the War God System announcing a temporary mission in his mind, Rek's expression became unnatural.
Rek knew that if he did not secure first place among the candidates, the examination venue would instantly face a massacre.
At that point, if he killed twelve unmarried members and direct descendants of the top forces within the Star Alliance, it would undoubtedly cause chaos within the Star Alliance.
He wouldn't even be able to withstand the wrath of many families and their powerful members, including Maya's father.
"Damn it! It looks like I have to work harder for this exam! If I can't get first place and lose, I'll have to live a life on the run. At least until the chaos of the Xeno Outbreak and Star Alliance settles down, I can't show my face," Rek thought bitterly as he began to pay attention to the map of the surrounding corridors, contemplating how to escape after killing if he truly lost.
Maya watched Rek looking around anxiously and thought that he was feeling a bit nervous.
The two of them walked into a large Training Ground.
The venue was already crowded with many people. Maya glanced around and noticed some familiar peers in the center of the venue, along with their family members outside.
Rek surveyed the twelve men sitting in the center of the venue. The youngest among them appeared to be in their late twenties, while some were likely in their forties. There were those with big beer bellies, some bald, and of course, a few who looked strikingly handsome like movie stars.
"No wonder Maya doesn't want to get married; if she had to choose one of these bald old men with beer bellies, she might as well give up on life," Rek thought to himself.
"Rek, go sit at that table in the middle; the test is about to begin," Aunt Xue said as she approached him.
Rek walked over and sat down at a chair in the middle of the training ground, glancing at the twelve competitors who would be participating alongside him.
Most of those competitors looked at Rek with disdainful and contemptuous expressions.
General Muku Tenmu stepped forward and began to speak: "Today is my daughter Maya's twenty-sixth birthday. She has not yet been engaged and will select one outstanding young man from among you present as her fiancé.
All of you here are exceptional, but my daughter can only choose one person. Therefore, I have set up this competition.
There will be a total of four rounds in this competition, and the final victor will have the honor of becoming my Mu Family's son-in-law." Muku Tenmu paused for a moment, observing that all the young men were looking at him before continuing.
"The four competitions will comprehensively test your strength and talent. Only the most outstanding youth can marry Maya.
The first competition, since our Mu Family is a military family, all of our Mu Family's sons-in-law should possess exceptional abilities in combat command.
Last night, I prepared an exam on combat command, and I have made thirteen copies. Now, I will distribute them to you. You will have one hour. After one hour, I will personally grade the papers," General Muku Tenmu said, raising his hand for Aunt Xue to start handing out the thirteen exam papers to the thirteen men present.
One by one, the contestants took the papers from Aunt Xue and quickly began to read. Many of them looked tense after seeing the exam questions.
This exam was very difficult, set by General Muku Tenmu, consisting mostly of tricky combat command questions that required consideration of many aspects to answer correctly. It was challenging to select the right command strategy from numerous options.
Rek also received a paper from Aunt Xue, who gave him an encouraging look.
Rek started reading the exam paper and, after going through it thoroughly, he sadly realized that he did not understand any of the questions. The paper was filled with too much military terminology; he had only heard some of them occasionally and had no idea what they meant.
Rek looked up at Maya standing in the distance. She was gazing at him with hopeful eyes, and he forced a confident smile in return.
Rek thought about the mission issued by the War God System; he had to come in first in this exam, or else he would turn into a butcher and start killing.
Given the strength of the guards present, even if the System controlled his body to instantly kill twelve contestants, he would definitely not escape from Sanctuary Base afterward.
"If I had known earlier, I should have studied combat command more seriously," Rek lamented internally, holding his pen and unsure of what to write.
The young men around Rek, even if they were not primarily focused on combat command before, had crammed for it before coming here. Many had already started answering questions.
Rek began to think about how to win this combat command examination.
Finally, Rek came up with a method and quickly wrote a line of text in the middle of the paper.
The hour-long exam time soon ended, and Aunt Xue began collecting the papers. Some who hadn’t finished could only submit incomplete papers.
Of course, after submitting his paper, Rek glanced around and noticed three or four competitors who looked very confident; it seemed they had done well.
Rek also smiled and gave a reassuring look to Maya, who was watching him from the sidelines.
The thirteen competitors sat still in their seats as General Muku Tenmu began grading the papers personally.
As General Muku Tenmu graded the exams, he sighed, noting that while these young men vying for his daughter's hand were not yet exceptional in combat command skills, most of them had answered well, with only a few minor mistakes.
Suddenly, Muku Tenmu spotted an unusual paper. Almost all the questions were left unanswered, except for a crooked line of text written in the center of the paper.
"Father-in-law, I intend to get first place in this combat command exam. Let me tell you a universal answer: Xiaoya has a crescent-shaped birthmark on her inner thigh. If I don’t get first place, I will shout this phrase and find someone to prove my universal answer."
Muku Tenmu clenched his hands tightly as he read the words on the paper, then looked up at Rek, who was sitting in the exam chair with a provocative smile.
At that moment, Muku Tenmu felt like he could kill this brat named Rek. This punk had even looked at his daughter's inner thigh and was openly threatening him with what seemed like cheating.
Muku Tenmu glared at Rek, his eyes blazing with anger; this was nothing short of an insult to the Mu Family.
However, General Muku Tenmu knew he couldn't reveal this information publicly at such a moment. Everyone present was from the Star Alliance Military and various prominent families. If others found out about that line of text, Maya and the Mu Family would become a laughingstock among the upper echelons of the Star Alliance by tomorrow.
Rek remained unfazed, smiling at his father-in-law.
Half an hour later, after grading all the papers, General Muku Tenmu announced to everyone's anticipation, "In this combat command exam, Rek scored full marks." After saying this, Muku Tenmu gathered all the papers into his arms and cast a cold glance at Rek and his daughter Maya.
