I looked at the respected Lady of Worship over there, and without any other actions, Zhen'er hesitated for a moment before turning to leave.
Not long after Zhen'er walked away, something strange happened again.
"Xi Meng, Xi Meng." I was startled; it was that voice again!
"Who is it?!" This time I responded quickly because, in the haze, I seemed to hear my name being called!
"Xi Meng, the ancestral hall."
"I can't hear you clearly; what are you saying?!"
"Xi—"
Suddenly, the voice cut off, and silence returned as it had been before.
I touched my heart, feeling that strong sense of unease again.
Could it be that I know the owner of this voice?! Is he—asking for help?
I stood up and pondered for a moment whether to go to the ancestral hall. Zhen'er's intention was clearly not to let me go; she must be hiding something from me... But if it involves someone else's private matters, it would be inappropriate for me to probe so recklessly. After all, this is not my place, and I should be cautious.
Sigh, it seems I still need to discuss this with Bai Zhan when I have time; being an outsider does make things inconvenient... However, Zhen'er's earlier behavior truly raised my suspicions; she was completely different from her usual gentle and calm self.
I glanced at the path leading to the ancestral hall and ultimately turned to walk down another small road. Let's go check on Xiaopu; I wonder how the Spirit Cat Clan is getting along with the villagers of Holy Spirit Village.
As I walked along, I once again noticed the significant changes in the villagers of Holy Spirit Village, and I felt a sense of relief in my heart, as if I had personally awakened a desert, quietly restoring life all around. Indeed, with the protection of Flower Tears, this place was meant to be a warm land.
With the villagers' guidance, I headed towards the location of Xiaopu and the others.
Suddenly, I was drawn to a scene not far away where several children were playing and laughing. I stopped with a light smile... it was that child for sure; I could feel that presence unmistakably.
Three boys who looked quite similar formed a circle around a lone boy standing in the middle, making it three against one.
Well, after all, they were descendants of Holy Spirit Village; there was still some divine aura within them. These children had already reached Reaper level and would be considered outstanding even in Demon Emperor Silver Hall.
However, the lone boy in the center showed no signs of any level. He had a serious expression as he looked at the four surrounding him, hesitating to make a move.
"Bang——" The solitary boy was suddenly struck down hard by an unexpected blow. He took a deep breath and stood up again.
"Bang, bang, bang——" More and more attacks landed on him. Such a small child surely couldn't withstand this; he lay on the ground without getting back up, gasping for breath.
I suppressed my smile and spoke from the side, "Stop."
The three boys were taken aback and immediately ceased their actions, looking at me with confusion. One of the older-looking boys asked, "Who are you?"
"I'm this child's sister," I replied casually.
"Nonsense! Where would he have a sister?" shouted one of the boys. "Quickly go tell our parents that an outsider has entered the village!"
One boy turned to run, and I chuckled, saying, "What should we do? Since you've discovered me, I can't let you go now."
The three children were filled with great terror as they glanced around. Unfortunately, there wasn't a soul in sight. They struggled to maintain their composure. It was still that boy who spoke up, "This is Holy Spirit Village; no one dares to act recklessly here. If you dare to harm us even slightly, when our parents come looking for us, you will surely have no way out."
"You think that just because I can enter here, I would be afraid of a few little villagers?" I continued to smile.
The boy was momentarily stunned, then became somewhat flustered. "What do you want to do?!"
"First, tell me why you four are bullying that child."
"He possesses Demonic Arts and injured our elder brother!"
"I didn't, I didn't hurt him," came a weak voice from the child lying on the ground.
"Nonsense! If it weren't for you, how could our elder brother be in a deep sleep?!"
"No, I really didn't—" the boy continued to deny it intermittently.
"This Village is the only place where someone can induce a deep sleep with Demonic Arts. Now that our elder brother is suddenly like this, tell me, if it wasn't you, who else could it be?!"
I understood the situation well enough and interrupted the children's bickering, saying sternly, "Enough! If he really did this, why didn't he attack the three of you just now? With his strength, he could easily handle all three of you."
I had witnessed everything that had happened; someone with such a temperament would never harm their own kin.
Moreover, that child's aura should have already reached a small level of mastery. Having refined Nether Energy without losing his soul meant his mind was certainly sound.
Seeing that the three boys had stopped their nonsense and seemed somewhat swayed by my words, I said no more. I sighed and walked toward the injured child.
"Morning Child," I called softly.
His slightly frail body trembled as he struggled to rise again. I helped him up, supporting him as I infused some Soul Energy into him. His injuries weren't severe, and he was recovering quickly.
"Morning Child, Morning Child—" I called out gently a couple more times until his eyes cleared and looked at me with focus.
"Goddess Sister?" Morning Child exclaimed in surprise.
"Yes, it's me." I smiled and helped him to his feet.
At that moment, the three children nearby suddenly shouted, "Second Uncle, help! Outsiders have come to the village!"
"Second Uncle, Second Uncle, there's a demoness, help!" The three children rushed to Bai Zhan's side and began to clamor.
"Xi Meng, what are you doing here?" Bai Zhan said as he gave each of the three children a light tap on the head before ignoring them and walking over to me.
"I wanted to see how Xiaopu and the others were doing. I saw them ganging up on someone on the way."
"I was just thinking of checking on your friends too. I didn't expect to run into you," Bai Zhan replied with a smile.
"Second Uncle, do you know him?!" one of the children asked.
"Of course! Didn't you want to meet the Goddess? She's right in front of you, and yet you're all acting foolish," Bai Zhan said.
"Goddess, is it really the Goddess?" The three little boys immediately crowded around, looking her up and down.
"Bang!" One of the boys suddenly knelt down and cried out, "Please, Goddess, save our older brother!"
The other two children did the same, continuously pleading.
"What are you doing? Little men shouldn't be crying like this. Wipe your eyes and get up," I scolded.
Bai Zhan frowned beside me and slowly spoke, "Well, it's not their fault. Their older brother suddenly fell into a coma one day, and we were all at a loss. We were planning to wait until you settled down to see if you had any way to help him. I didn't expect you'd run into this situation now."
"So, you all misunderstood it was Morning Child?" I asked.
I couldn't help but feel a bit guilty; I hadn't realized that my actions that day would bring such trouble to this child after I left.
"I certainly won't jump to conclusions so easily. It's just that these children insist it was Morning Child, and I've tried to stop them a few times, but unexpectedly—" At this point, Bai Zhan glared at the three children and continued, "These little brats won't listen to me!"
The children huddled to one side, seemingly a bit afraid of Bai Zhan, but they still muttered softly, "Big brother was with him before he fell unconscious. Who else could it be?"
"Are you saying that your big brother was last with Morning Child before he fell unconscious?" I asked.
"That's right, it was him!" one little boy affirmed.
"Big brother is the only one here who treats him well. He usually takes him along to play, but who would have thought that after learning his skills, the first person he harmed was big brother!" another child said.
"I didn't do anything!" Morning Child immediately retorted.
"Then Morning Child, tell sister if their big brother was with you when he fell unconscious," I asked.
Morning Child fell silent all of a sudden.
The three children began to insist again, firmly stating that it was Morning Child's fault!
"Alright, everyone shut up!" Bai Zhan shouted at the three children.
"Morning Child, if there's something you need to tell sister, then I can help you, right?" I said, holding Morning Child's hand and looking at him.
"...I can't remember clearly." After a long pause, Morning Child finally spoke.
The three children wanted to speak again, but after glancing at Bai Zhan, they closed their mouths and remained silent.
"I know that saying this won't make you believe me... but I really can't remember."
"Then what do you remember? Tell sister," I gently asked.
"That day, I was originally with their big brother, and then he said he wanted to see my abilities. I said no, afraid of hurting him, but the big brother didn't believe me and insisted it wouldn't happen—"
"So you attacked their big brother?" Bai Zhan interjected.
"...No, as soon as I released the Nether Energy, I felt something calling to me, and then my consciousness started to blur. After that, I can't remember what happened," Morning Child said.
Looking at the child's expression, it didn't seem like he was lying. Could it be that something sensed the Nether Energy and was calling to Morning Child?
"Really can't remember? For example, did you see any place while your consciousness was blurry?" I asked.
"I can't remember," Morning Child shook his head.
Suddenly, he looked up at me and said, "I just remembered! That place seems somewhat familiar!"
"Where?!" Bai Zhan asked anxiously.
"It seems to be the path leading to the ancestral hall," Morning Child said.
...It seems that this ancestral hall indeed has issues.
"Alright, I understand. This matter will only be known to the six of us; you must not tell anyone. If you promise me, I'll help you rescue Big Brother shortly," I said to the children.
"We promise! We promise!" The children responded eagerly, fearing that I would change my mind.
I nodded with a smile and saw Bai Zhan's puzzled expression. "I'll explain everything to you later."
Only then did Bai Zhan relax, following everyone to see the unconscious boy.
"Right here." The three children stopped outside a courtyard.
"Dad, Mom, the Goddess is here!" Before entering, the children shouted at the top of their lungs.
"Great! The eldest brother is saved!"
A man and a woman emerged from the house; they were likely the children's parents.
"Second Young Master!" The couple respectfully bowed to Bai Zhan.
Bai Zhan waved his hand and said, "Alright, quickly take the Goddess to see your son."
The couple looked at me in astonishment and hurriedly prepared to bow again. "Goddess, we truly have no way to repay you for saving our son!"
"No need for that, Uncle and Aunt. Just take me to see the child," I replied.
The couple immediately led the way. Before we reached the house, I felt a jolt in my heart; this aura—
"What’s wrong?" Bai Zhan noticed my unusual reaction and asked with concern.
"Let's talk inside," I frowned, feeling an ominous sensation. I was increasingly certain that there was a huge conspiracy lurking beneath the surface here.
