“Hess, I'm back.”
Returning to the Necromancer's Cave, and not just restored to my original form, but having reshaped a more perfect body, feels really good! Also, I don't know where that ‘Sky-Opening’ went; the path has been smooth all the way, which has greatly improved my mood.
“Hess, Hess—”
“You, you’re back?!” Hess looked very surprised.
“...What, am I supposed to never show up again?” My expression instantly turned cold; I sensed something was off with Hess. He was still the same person from Siyimo.
“How did you do it? You managed to escape from Lord Sky-Opening twice…” Hess muttered to himself.
“Where is White Soul? Has he woken up?” Ignoring Hess's outburst, I wanted to find White Soul quickly to complete the next task in the palace.
“……” Hess didn’t respond.
“Hess, I’m asking you a question!”
“I—I’m going to kill you!” Hess lunged at me like a madman, his sudden shift into madness caught me off guard.
“Are you insane?!”
I shouted, sidestepping as Hess, who originally had no abilities, missed his attack. His speed was far too slow to compare with mine, so I didn’t need to be on guard; I stood there waiting for Hess to speak.
"Hahaha, I'm really stupid. With things as they are now, how could I possibly hurt you!" Hess said, laughing in anger, truly losing his mind.
"Why do you want to hurt me?" I replied coldly. We shouldn't have had any enmity before. If there was any, it was just about Siyimo, but last time Hess said he no longer belonged to anyone.
"Is it still because of your princess?" I asked, seeing that Hess remained silent.
Hess's face darkened as he glared at me and said, "That's right! As long as I'm here, I will never allow you to harm my Princess!"
"But you clearly said—"
"That was all a lie, a lie!" Hess gritted his teeth.
"A lie?"
"Exactly! If I hadn't said that, how would you have believed me and gone to 'Sky-Opening'? It wouldn't let you go. Even sacrificing a few wouldn't help; you can't escape!"
"I can't defeat the experts around you, but so what? 'Sky-Opening' will take care of all of you one by one, and wouldn't it be better for me to reap the benefits? Hahaha..." Hess might have completely lost his mind.
"So what? I'm back anyway," I said dismissively.
"Yeah. I can't understand why you're still alive and have become so powerful?!"
"Hess, justice will always prevail in the end, right? Siyimo has already changed beyond recognition. Why can't you understand that? If you continue to indulge her, she will eventually destroy more lives. Moreover, her goal is to conquer the three realms."
"Sigh, you don't understand," Hess sighed.
"I don't understand. The three realms are already in turmoil. I've heard that the Demon Emperor has awakened and is preparing to summon the demon race to break the seal, so I don't have time to reason with you. My greatest enemies are Siyimo and the Demon Emperor."
"…The Demon Emperor has awakened?" Hess asked, stunned.
"That's right. This is what the demons told me."
"It's over, we're doomed, really doomed… my princess…" Hess kept repeating similar phrases, as if he had suffered a great blow. His fierce demeanor vanished, leaving him utterly dejected.
"What do you mean by that?!" I asked urgently. Could there be some connection between Siyimo and the Demon Emperor? Hess must know!
Hess slumped to the ground, unresponsive no matter how much I questioned or shook him.
"Fine, if you won't say anything, you'll regret it sooner or later, Hess!" I said angrily, throwing my hands up as I looked at this selfish guy. I couldn't help but wonder what was so special about her, Siyimo, that made people so devoted to her. What kind of magic did she possess?!
For a long time, we remained in this stalemate with no progress.
…
"Xi Meng—"
I turned around sharply; that voice was all too familiar. I covered my mouth, my body tense with excitement.
"White Soul—" I said in disbelief as I uttered the name.
"Yes, I'm here," White Soul replied with a smile, walking towards me step by step.
I suddenly threw myself into his arms, truly awake—thank goodness...
"Fool, why are you so excited?"
"No, it's just that I'm so glad you woke up. I've been all alone during this time, and it was really scary." I smiled and took a couple of steps back to carefully look at White Soul. It seemed like his mental state was fine; everything appeared to be normal.
"I know, you've had a tough time these days. You've done well, Xi Meng."
I nodded. Really, having everyone by my side is the most important thing for me!
"Alright, we need to hurry; we're going to the next palace," White Soul said.
"Okay!"
"If I'm not mistaken, you've already completed the tasks of Star Seeker, Lunar One, Lightbearer, Goddess of Strength, and the Grim Reaper."
"What did you say?"
"That's right. They are all part of the Main Palace. It's actually not as you thought before; our purpose here is more like completing the eighteen mandatory tasks. Now that those palaces have all been completed, what's left are the divine levels, which will become increasingly difficult. Just like with the Goddess of Strength and the Grim Reaper; it won't be that simple anymore."
"...So where are we going next?"
