"Listen, you two will stand behind us in a moment." Before stepping onto the stage, the arrogant Male Ghost whispered to our girl and then walked towards the stage.
This guy still has hope.
"The final Team Battle begins."
"I suggest you just admit defeat." The opponent was Phoenix Academy, ranked sixth. All the Students were girls, and looking at the girl in front of me who was smiling brightly, I could only smile back.
"What? Are you scared? Look at you, three out of five are injured, do you still want to compete?" Another girl, who was of medium build, continued.
"Stop talking nonsense, let's get started." One of our Male Students shouted angrily.
"Hmph, just wait and see." After saying that, the opponent released their Soul Energy, and sure enough, all five were High-Level Death Warriors. We also began to release our Soul Energy; except for the girl who would assist us, who was an Intermediate Death Warrior, the other three were also High-Level Death Warriors. Therefore, the deep blue aura around me was particularly striking. I noticed the astonishment of all the Students present and even saw the surprise on the faces of the leaders in the highest stands. Grandpa Ronda looked at me with a smile, and even the Third Elder nodded slightly.
"This is impossible, how could you—" The opponent looked at me in disbelief.
"There’s nothing completely impossible. Here it comes, Wings of Wind." I initiated the attack first; this was the best strategy in such a situation. Sure enough, the wind swept over them and they fell to the ground, with only one quick-reacting girl activating her defense. Well then, I won’t give you a chance to counterattack. "Water Shield, go!" This move consumed a lot of my Soul Power, but this level would end with the match. I wanted to prove that Demon Emperor Silver Hall represents strength!
"Demon Emperor Silver Hall wins." With the voice of the male host, I left the arena. So we advanced with fourth place strength.
"You did great, Xi Meng." Nian rushed to my side immediately; it was clear she was very happy too.
"I just exposed my strength this time; if I want things to go this smoothly again, I probably won't have that chance."
"You’re always like this, so steady. Seeing you like this reassures me," Nian said comfortingly.
"By the way, Sister Nian. I feel like I'm about to break through from Warrior level to Reaper level." I had been stuck at the Warrior level bottleneck and felt like I was on the verge of breaking through during the competition.
"Xi Meng, you might be the most talented Student I've ever seen; it's incredible. Alright then, go back and meditate for a while. I'll notify you before the next match. If you break through, then your chances of winning will increase significantly."
"Alright, I'm leaving now." I turned and walked towards the dormitory.
The road was quiet, not a single shadow in sight. Most likely, the teachers and students had gone to the playground; who wouldn't want to watch the competition? I walked slowly. After leaving the human world, my life had been tightly packed. Here, there were no subjects that gave me a headache, but it had been a long time since I slowed down to notice the scenery around me. Perhaps now was not the right time, but I felt somewhat oppressed. What was all of this for? I was clearly so weak, and those grand ideals felt so far away from me.
"Xi Meng, what are you doing here?" I was startled and turned around to find it was Silver Moon Senior.
"What’s wrong? You look distracted," Silver Moon said, looking at me with confusion.
"Senior, why do you think we live? What are we living for?" I didn't feel the excitement of winning the competition; instead, I felt a bit lost.
"Your performance just now was outstanding. You are the most talented girl I have ever seen. If you keep working hard at your level, you don't need to worry about other issues. Now is not the time to overthink things. Sigh, you—" Silver Moon seemed to want to say more as he looked at me hesitantly.
"There are many discomforts for a human coming to the underworld, but I don’t want to see you like this, Xi Meng. I, Silver Moon, will always be by your side." Suddenly, Silver Moon hugged me.
I stood there in shock; he was hugging me. Was this a confession? Realizing this, I tried to pull away from him.
"Did I scare you?" Silver Moon released me.
I didn't know what to say as silence returned around us. After a while, I reached the dormitory; I should probably say something.
"Senior, how did you know I'm human?"
"I just know. Don't ask; I don't want to lie to you. I'll tell you later." When Silver Moon said this, his expression was complex. It seemed that things would never be as simple as we imagined.
"Then I'll go in first, Senior." I turned around.
"Xi Meng, will you—stay here in the future?" Silver Moon's voice sounded again, becoming very soft at the end.
I paused for a moment. "No, back to the question I asked you at the beginning: I'm not living for myself; I'm living for—responsibility." After saying this, I walked inside on my own. Suddenly, I felt a sense of clarity wash over me. Yes, it was responsibility; I still had an unfinished mission. I didn't know why Silver Moon said those things to me today; he seemed to be hiding many secrets that I didn't know about. As for my feelings towards him, they should be respect; I've always admired him greatly.
In short, I am very grateful for his presence, regardless of his intentions; at least now I can feel at ease. I sat quietly on the bed, casting aside all distractions, and began to focus on my cultivation. I felt an increasing heat within me, as if the Soul Energy was accumulating rapidly, almost to the point of explosion. This level shouldn't be so painful; what is happening? The blue sphere inside me had already developed cracks, and after a long while, it finally burst open. As it restored itself, a brand new light gray sphere appeared, but I still felt terrible; the tearing sensation and the splitting of flesh and bone were unbearable. Then, a powerful Killing Intent surged forth, filling my body with this dark energy, causing my mind to become frantic. Just when I thought I would explode from within, Pure Sound saved me once again. All the dark energy was absorbed into Pure Sound, and as it rotated, the purified dark energy seemed to become compliant, covering the surface of that gray sphere. Finally, everything inside me returned to normal.
I stood up and was surprised to find that my body had undergone significant changes; I felt lighter and all my skills had greatly improved. If only the prisoner were still by my side; I really had many questions to ask him.
"Master, Master, I'm awake." Suddenly, I heard Little Pink's voice.
"Little Pink, come out." Looking at Little Pink before me, I felt truly happy; she woke up just in time. Little Pink seemed to be the same size but appeared slightly different.
"Master, look at me! I've leveled up again; I'm now at Level Two!" she exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh! They all think I'm a monster; who would have thought you are the real little monster?" I said helplessly as I glanced at the blue star on Little Pink's forehead.
"Alright, Master. If it weren't for your strength, I definitely wouldn't have leveled up this quickly. After all, our magical beasts level up mainly by absorbing your energy. Although I've been in a dormant state for a while, I sensed another kind of power emerging within you," Little Pink said with a serious expression.
"Come out, Nine Charm." I didn't respond to Little Pink.
Nine Charm appeared silently beside me like a ghost. Little Pink is quite intelligent, and I've always regarded her as my friend; it was necessary for them to meet this time.
"Master, what is he? How do you have an adult magical beast? No way! Your abilities can't allow this; I'm going to faint," Little Pink said as she anxiously paced back and forth.
"He is a spirit bound to my mark; he is not my magical beast," I explained. Little Pink looked at Nine Charm and me in disbelief.
"Master, how could you have a spirit bound to you that is so much stronger than you? Do you know—"
"You're talking too much, little bug." Nine Charm's voice carried an inherent allure that matched his appearance. Little Pink paused for a moment before closing her mouth and hiding behind me.
"Little Pink, Nine Charm is very nice; it's fine. In the future, I'll break the bond with him," I said. At this point, Nine Charm frowned slightly and turned his head away, whispering, "The bond can only be broken if one party dies."
"What did you say?" I didn't catch that clearly.
"Nothing much, did you call me for something?" Nine Charm resumed her usual expression, very charming.
"Just now I entered the Nether Sect at level one, but I found something abnormal within me. You all are from the Underworld, so I thought you might have sensed that Killing Intent too. What is it?"
"Yes, Master, the energy I mentioned is it. It seems to repel the original energy within you. Right now it's still weak, but as it grows stronger, I wonder if the original energy can suppress it."
"The bug is right; this is what I'm worried about. As your Soul Power increases, they might become irreconcilable. One is the brightest of lights, and the other is the darkest of shadows. I'm afraid you might—explode from within," Nine Charm said gravely as she looked at me.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Master is the strongest! And I'm not some bug; I'm a butterfly!" Little Pink puffed up her cheeks in anger.
I ignored her; Nian wouldn't harm me. She probably didn't know either. It seems I need to investigate the origins of this book as soon as possible. I should find time to ask Nian.
"Xi Meng, you'd better not tell anyone yet; we still don't know the origins of that score. Sometimes, caution is necessary; you can't trust anyone when needed. Remember, that's the way of life in the Underworld," Nine Charm's eyes were sincere, and I could tell she genuinely cared for me.
"I understand, but Nine Charm, if you don't trust anyone, won't that make you feel very lonely?" I looked at her somewhat lost; did she not fully trust me?
"And also, you just used 'we,' didn't you?" Thinking of this, I smiled at Nine Charm; she must have considered me one of her own.
"I—" Nine Charm was about to say something but stopped. After a moment, she smiled at me and said, "I've already found the location of Demon Abyss; I must go there. I'll leave first. Summon me if there's an urgent matter; I'll come back to tell you." With that, she disappeared.
"What a strange fellow; I hope he never harms you, Master," Little Pink finally relaxed and spoke up.
"He definitely won't. Alright, let's take a good rest while we can; the next match is about to begin."
