On an autumn morning, the day broke neither early nor late, and the wind was slightly chilly, causing the Ginkgo Tree outside to shed its yellow leaves. The morning light streamed in through the drawn curtains, casting a warm orange glow.
Lexington sat by the window in her loungewear, a fine-toothed comb gliding through her hair. She looked at the delicate face of the woman in the mirror, with her flaxen hair cascading down the side of her face, and felt her cheeks flush.
Although she had never experienced such matters and had no experience with relationships, she still understood some basic knowledge. Having read certain forbidden texts from ancient China, Lexington knew what those things were. Just thinking about being pressed against something like that all night made her face heat up. She wondered if she should prepare a separate room for Firefly at Naval Base to avoid feeling too close to the Admiral even while sleeping.
"What are you thinking about, Lexington? Have you no shame?" Lexington scolded herself quietly.
"Admiral, it's time to get up." After finishing her hair and changing clothes, Lexington turned to wake Chuyang.
Today, she had tied her hair up on top of her head instead of letting it fall over her shoulders, giving her a slightly more mature look reminiscent of a newlywed, with less of a girl's shyness and more of a woman's sophistication.
Firefly's hairstyle had also changed slightly; usually, Kiddo would wear a blue hairband, but now she sported a white lace flower in her hair. The pink puffy dress that Chuyang had bought for her made her look like a little princess from a fairy tale.
At this moment, both Lexington and Firefly were ready, but Chuyang remained curled up in bed under the covers.
It wasn't that he didn't want to get up; he just felt a bit embarrassed after a night filled with dreams that left no trace—except for his underwear feeling a bit out of sorts.
"Admiral, what's wrong?" Seeing Chuyang's strange expression, Lexington couldn't help but ask with concern.
"It's nothing. I'll get up right away. You take Firefly downstairs first; I'll come down once I've changed."
"Alright." Lexington nodded, lifting a prepared bag with her left hand and pulling Firefly along with her right as she walked towards the door. Just before reaching it, she turned around and said, "Admiral, remember to put on your Admiral uniform."
"Got it," Chuyang replied. After the two went downstairs, he quickly got out of bed, closed the door, and took a clean pair of underwear from the wardrobe to change into. After disposing of the incriminating evidence covered in maps, Chuyang finally breathed a sigh of relief and put on the White Admiral Uniform that Lexington had already ironed.
Today, he not only had to take Lexington to buy a ring but also needed to pick up photos from the Photo Booth and take some wedding photos together. However, Chuyang felt that picking up the photos was just an afterthought; taking wedding photos was the main event. But it didn't matter as long as Lexington was happy.
After enjoying a simple breakfast prepared by Lexington, Chuyang borrowed car keys from Zhang Jianlin and drove Zhang Jianlin's SUV, which had been gathering dust in the garage since it was bought, taking Lexington and Firefly out of Harmony Villa community.
In this era, although humanity's overall technological civilization still remained at the level of the Old World during World War II, life was significantly better compared to Chuyang's previous life. Aside from certain war-torn areas, most places around the world were relatively stable and prosperous. At least there were no horrific events like cannibalism or widespread misery. Of course, there was still a huge wealth gap, but for most hardworking people, as long as they were diligent, they wouldn't go hungry. The entire society was in a relatively peaceful and prosperous development stage, with simple folk customs and little materialistic desire.
Thus, Chuyang smoothly drove to the commercial street in the city center without encountering any scams along the way.
After getting out of the car, Lexington naturally linked her arm with Chuyang's shoulder and held Firefly's small hand as they strolled through the surrounding shops like an ordinary family of three.
"Admiral, why don't you try this shirt?" Lexington held up a white long-sleeved shirt and gestured towards Chuyang.
"This... isn't this too much?" Just glancing at the price tag made Chuyang's face turn pale; the shirt was simply too expensive, and more importantly, he didn't have that much money.
Even though Chuyang was an Admiral, he hadn't officially taken office yet and thus couldn't access any Naval Base funds. His savings from previous jobs had been completely spent just two days ago when he bought clothes for Firefly. Even today’s money for buying a ring for Lexington was borrowed from Zhang Jianlin in secret.
If he spent money on buying clothes for himself, just this one shirt would use up most of what he borrowed, let alone buying a wedding ring.
As for the over one hundred thousand dollars that Firefly had stored with him, he never considered touching it. As an Admiral, he had to maintain certain principles; at the very least, he couldn't think about using his subordinate Fleet Girls' private funds.
"Go try it on." Ignoring Chuyang's hesitant gaze, Lexington pushed Chuyang into the nearby fitting room.
When Chuyang emerged from the fitting room, Lexington carefully adjusted the collar and cuffs of Chuyang's outfit, inspecting it from all angles. "Admiral, I think this outfit suits you very well."
"Not good." Chuyang shook his head. He had made up his mind; no matter how the clothes looked, he would insist they were unsuitable.
"Really? What's wrong with it? I think Admiral looks quite handsome in it."
"The quality is poor; the stitching is too coarse." Chuyang was simply being difficult.
However, if he had criticized other aspects, like the style or fit, the sales assistant would have found it hard to argue back since personal preferences vary. But by focusing on the quality of the clothing, Sales Assistant could not hold back her frustration.
It should be noted that the clothes in their store were designed by world-renowned designers, made from the finest fabrics, and meticulously handcrafted by skilled seamstresses. They were far superior to those mass-produced by other brands. Moreover, each piece underwent rigorous inspections before being sold in-store to ensure there were no quality issues whatsoever.
Nonetheless, Chuyang was still a customer, and customers are considered kings. So even if Sales Assistant felt displeased with Chuyang, she had to endure it.
"Let me take another look." After re-examining Chuyang's outfit, Lexington waved over to the nearby Sales Assistant. "Miss, please wrap this one up for me."
"Wait a moment." It was better to intervene now than to face a bigger embarrassment later.
