"Well, I'm not going to do it anymore."
"Why?"
"Because I don't want you to get hurt." Chuyang gently stroked Firefly's hair.
Although Firefly was just a Destroyer, for Chuyang, whose face was darker than an African brother's, there was a high possibility that Firefly would become his first Fleet Girl and the only one in his life. Once he officially became an Admiral, even if assigned to a coastal Land-Based Naval Base, he would inevitably have to let Firefly escort past ships. Although the coastal areas were much safer compared to nearshore, offshore, or deep ocean, there was still no guarantee that they would not encounter Deep Sea Shipgirls. Even if they did, most would be extremely weak Deep Sea Shipgirls that any Destroyer Girl could easily sink without taking damage. However, no one could guarantee that the coastal areas were completely safe; just one unexpected incident could lead to regret for Chuyang. Firefly was not a Battleship; her armor could not compare to those larger ships. Even Deep Sea Destroyers could put Firefly in danger, and she might not even survive until help arrived from the nearby Naval Base. Therefore, for the safety of little Kiddo, Chuyang preferred not to become an Admiral.
"Hurt." Firefly's big eyes were watery and somewhat touched. Although Fleet Girls would often risk their lives for their Admirals and would have no regrets afterward, who wouldn't want to receive care from others in this world? The fact that Chuyang considered her safety and was willing to give up being an Admiral just to avoid seeing her get hurt undoubtedly strengthened little Kiddo's determination to become Chuyang's Fleet Girl.
"Brother Chu Yang, Firefly is very powerful; she's a Lieutenant-Class Ship Girl!" Little Kiddo proudly puffed out her chest.
"Lieutenant level." Chuyang looked at Firefly with some surprise.
This was a real world where game levels did not exist. However, according to their capabilities, the Naval Headquarters had established a strict ranking system divided into ten levels: Lieutenant Junior Grade, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Rear Admiral, Vice Admiral, Lieutenant General, and the highest rank of Admiral. The higher the rank, the stronger the capability.
Although Firefly was only a Lieutenant Fleet Girl and seemed to be at the bottom of the hierarchy, it should be noted that as a Destroyer, due to the limitations of her ship type, a Destroyer Girl could only achieve a maximum rank of Captain. Light Cruiser and Heavy Cruiser Girls could only reach Colonel at most unless equipped with some extraordinary gear like the Kirov Gun; otherwise, they would never touch the threshold of Rear Admiral in their lifetime. As for battleships and aircraft carriers, those ranks were exclusive to battlecruisers and battleships.
Combining knowledge from books and observations of some Fleet Girl instructors at the academy, Chuyang believed that if Firefly's Lieutenant level were quantified using data from his previous life’s game, she would be akin to a Destroyer Girl who had undergone one upgrade and reached level 50 while enhancing her firepower, durability, armor parameters by half with various resources. She was significantly stronger than many Destroyer Girls serving as instructors at the academy; calling her the top graduate of this year's Rongcheng Naval Academy Fleet Girl Academy Destroyer department would not be an exaggeration.
There was no way around it; this was a real world and not a game. There were no resources available for Fleet Girls to enhance their ship parameters. To improve themselves, there were only two paths: first, equip more powerful gear; second, through relentless effort and training in actual combat to continuously hone their skills for personal attribute growth.
Let's first discuss the first point: replacing equipment with more powerful gear is undoubtedly the most effective and quickest way to enhance the overall strength of the Fleet Girls. Not to mention those weapons with incredible parameters like the MK7 and B25, even some basic weapons are not that easy to obtain.
Although humans have been developing weapons that can be equipped on Fleet Girls' ships, there has still been no substantial progress so far. To acquire equipment, one can only search through the ruins of the Old World or scavenge on the battlefield, picking up intact weapons left behind by sunken Fleet Girls or Deep Sea Shipgirls. However, since they have been sunk, both Fleet Girls and Deep Sea Shipgirls would have suffered severe damage to their ships, leaving mostly wreckage behind. Finding a complete turret or torpedo launcher is rare; even locating a single intact ship component is quite a challenge. Therefore, the equipment of Fleet Girls appears extremely rare in this world.
Of course, if two Fleet Girls have a very close relationship, they can lend each other equipment. However, there is a saying among Fleet Girls: "A head can be severed, an Admiral can be replaced, but equipment must never be lent out..."
In the black market, even a basic piece of equipment has skyrocketed in price, while extraordinary weapons like the Kirov Gun are priceless and can only be exchanged for a large amount of Merit at Naval Headquarters, though there's no guarantee that one will actually get it. Any extraordinary weapon is something you might encounter but cannot seek out; even Naval Headquarters, the largest equipment depot in the world, often lacks stock.
Thus, attempting to achieve a significant enhancement in the overall strength of Fleet Girls through replacing their weapons with more powerful ones in a short time is essentially an unlikely endeavor.
As for improving attributes through personal effort and continuously seeking breakthroughs in battle, this often requires an extremely long time. So if Firefly truly is a Lieutenant-level Destroyer Girl as she claims, then her strength is indeed remarkable. Basically, as long as Chuyang can confirm that she is assigned to a coastal Land-Based Naval Base and does not venture deep into the sea or act recklessly to present herself as a hero or gain more Merit by ordering Firefly to confront Deep Sea Fleets that occasionally advance into coastal areas alone—just normal escort duties—then Firefly's safety should be assured.
"Lieutenant level?" Chuyang couldn't help but ask again.
"Yes! Firefly is really impressive, so Brother Chu Yang doesn't need to worry about me," Firefly confidently replied. It's worth noting that back at the previous Naval Base, before Rodney Sister and Nelson Sister arrived, she had always fought alongside Lexington Sister and Sister Helena under Admiral's command, eliminating many Deep Sea Shipgirls. Therefore, Brother Chu Yang really didn't need to worry about her.
"I see!" A hint of struggle flashed in Chuyang's eyes, but in the end, he still did not agree.
