Lin Haitao felt an impulse to cover his face, which had just been kissed on the cheek. He was a bit flustered. Yezhi widened her almond-shaped eyes, enjoying Xiaobinzi's reaction with a smug smile. "Master, Xiao Fang has finally found a way to eliminate the similar Purple Medicine from the ruins!" Xiao Fang exclaimed excitedly.
"Don't tell me any more technical terms!" Xiao Fang's understanding of Purple Medicine relied entirely on analyzing its components. When Yezhi first asked Xiao Fang what to do, she was bombarded with a bunch of jargon that made no sense to her.
Xiao Fang was also anxious about not being able to help her master. The ineffective Purple Medicine from the Bodria Star System had disappeared, and Earth's data included some from the 21st century. However, analyzing and verifying just the text and illustrations took time, and she couldn't let her master use it recklessly.
"Master, after verifying the Cabrag Ruins and Earth items, white vinegar can help you. Purple Medicine dissolves in alcohol; alcohol will work too."
There was no alcohol at home—white vinegar! She really didn't know where to buy it! In a hurry to return to her base, Yezhi couldn't worry about that much. Lin Haitao quickly ran home with the warm Candied Chestnuts tucked inside his coat. The tightly locked door dimmed his spirits. Yezhi finally returned to Zhoujiatun before dinner. As soon as she entered the village, some enthusiastic villagers came to inform her that Black Treasure, Niu Niu, and Wolf Child were frolicking in the snow.
Niu Niu jumped up to Yezhi's head, while Black Treasure and Wolf Child surrounded her. Wolf Child eagerly reached into Yezhi's pocket, responding to the Pet Communicator's message: Candy! Candy! Candy!
Yezhi silently cursed herself; she had completely forgotten about tricking Wolf Child and Black Treasure into buying candy earlier. She chuckled awkwardly and first gave Black Treasure an enthusiastic hug. Black Treasure, this solid little guy, was so happy to see "Mama Bear" return that he wagged his head and tail, completely forgetting about the candy and expressing his longing with joyful howls.
Wolf Child, disappointed at not finding any candy, pouted. Yezhi hugged Black Treasure and apologized, "I forgot to buy candy; I'll make a cake at home as compensation."
Little Fan, Zhou Xiaomu, ran over with her little arms and legs panting heavily. Just in time to hear the word "cake," both Little Beans chimed in sweetly, "I want to eat cake."
Sister Luo was waiting at the gate with a cheerful Elder Brother Yu. "Yezi, you're back!" Yezhi nodded at them. "Is everything okay at home?"
"Everything is great! But..." Sister Luo paused deliberately and winked at Yezi. "Yezi, have you recovered from your lovesickness? Did you manage to get a photo of Comrade Xiao Lin to ease your longing?"
Elder Brother Yu also said seriously, "A photo is a good remedy for lovesickness." Teased by Sister Luo and her husband, Yezhi showed no signs of shyness; instead, she smiled and said, "Elder Brother Yu, you must have looked at photos often when you missed Sister Luo!" The old couple was momentarily taken aback, as if they could see their past days of love reflected in each other's eyes.
Seeing the two people gazing at each other affectionately, Yezhi quickly stepped into the house. She didn't want to be like a lamp bulb. The big wolf raised its eyes and continued to curl up in the corner, deep in thought. Yezhi particularly understood why one would want to hide from the big wolf. The freshly baked cake emitted an enticing aroma that even the adults couldn't resist, let alone the little ones. Zhou Xiaomu urged impatiently, "Sister Ye, hurry up! Zhou Xiaomu is hungry!" Xiao Fan nodded in agreement while Wolf Child eagerly reached for the cake, drooling as transparent saliva dripped from the corners of Black Treasure's mouth.
Wolf Child's movements were too quick; not only had it grabbed a piece of the light yellow cake, but it also left several black fingerprints on it, which were particularly unsightly. A sense of helplessness enveloped Yezhi as she thought about how poor Wolf Child's hygiene habits were and how it never improved despite repeated lessons.
"Wow! As soon as my girl comes back, she makes delicious food. No wonder Wolf Child and Xiao Fan look forward to your return every day," Aunt Zhou cheerfully walked into the kitchen.
The whole family crowded in the kitchen sharing the sweet and delicious cake. Sister Luo and Aunt Zhou exchanged words like they were performing a duet, gossiping about Yezhi's recent happenings in town. Yezhi boasted shamelessly, "With such a beautiful girl like me standing in front of Xiaobinzi, he must be completely mesmerized." Elder Brother Yu nearly choked on his cake from her words, while Aunt Zhou and Sister Luo wore strange expressions that were half-laughter.
"Zhou Xiaomu, Xiao Fan, isn't Sister Ye a great beauty?" Xiao Fan and Zhou Xiaomu nodded with their mouths full of cake. "See? Not just Zhou Xiaomu; Xiao Fan and Black Treasure agree too!" All eyes turned to Black Treasure, who was hugging a large piece of cake and nodding vigorously while eating. The three couldn't hold back their laughter. The oblivious Wolf Child looked at everyone in confusion while Niu Niu barked defiantly, "What are you laughing at? The master is already the most beautiful person in the universe!" Niu Niu's flattery made Yezhi feel slightly embarrassed; calling herself "the most beautiful person in the universe" would surely make others laugh out loud. She was known for her lack of looks rather than beauty.
Elder Brother Yu kindly remarked, "It's lively at home when Yezhi is here; she always knows how to make us happy." Yezhi felt tears welling up; Black Treasure genuinely thought she was a great beauty—not just joking around. Black Treasure was enjoying herself so much that she nodded even more enthusiastically. "Mama Bear is definitely beautiful; otherwise, how could there be a Black Treasure who embodies both beauty and cuteness?" Black Treasure's innocent words echoed perfectly in Yezhi's mind, leaving her feeling flustered amidst it all.
