However, while she was inquiring about herself, she unexpectedly asked Bing Tianyi, "So tell me, what ancient basis are you using to make your predictions?"
Bing Tianyi initially did not want to explain to Qin Qi, but after considering that she had asked, he thought it wouldn't hurt to share, treating it as a way to promote National Studies. He then said to Qin Qi, "I believe you know about the Book of Changes, right?"
"Of course I know," Qin Qi replied decisively.
Bing Tianyi nodded and continued to ask, "Then tell me, does studying the Book of Changes mean that a person is superstitious?"
"Definitely not," Qin Qi answered without any hesitation, just like before.
Seeing the certainty on Qin Qi's face, Bing Tianyi continued to ask, "So how much do you know about the Book of Changes?"
Upon hearing this question from Bing Tianyi, Qin Qi looked slightly embarrassed and said softly, "I don't really understand it deeply."
"How deep is deep?" Bing Tianyi pressed on after Qin Qi finished speaking.
At this point, Qin Qi was a bit impatient and looked at Bing Tianyi before honestly saying, "I've only heard of the Book of Changes; I haven't actually read it."
Bing Tianyi knew this well; many people in the country had only heard of the name of the Book of Changes without ever having read its content. Of course, this didn't mean that people didn't like National Studies; rather, the Book of Changes was indeed too difficult.
Including himself, although there were experts who had thoroughly explained the Book of Changes long ago, he had only managed to grasp some of its meanings and still did not fully understand what it was trying to convey.
Therefore, if one wanted to study this National Studies subject, they must be prepared to learn for a lifetime before starting. Only then might they gain some understanding by the time they pass away.
Thinking about this, Bing Tianyi looked at Qin Qi and candidly said, "In fact, there are many people in our country like you. Most have only heard of the Book of Changes but have never read it. Some may have read it but still do not understand its meanings. A significant number have simply skimmed through it and learned a few terms, leading them to deceive others. As a result, when most people hear the term 'Book of Changes,' they associate it with so-called superstition."
Hearing Bing Tianyi's words, Qin Qi showed a look of confusion on her face. In fact, her understanding of the Book of Changes was limited to knowing that it could be used for fortune-telling; beyond that, she wasn't very clear.
After Bing Tianyi finished speaking, Qin Qi pondered briefly and directly asked, "So can you tell me what this book is really about?"
"If you want me to summarize it clearly right now, to be honest, I really don't have that ability. However, I can assure you that this book is all-encompassing and predicts people's fortunes; that's just the surface meaning of it," Bing Tianyi explained simply.
"Then it's still fortune-telling," Qin Qi said with a helpless smile.
Upon hearing this, Bing Tianyi nodded and smiled, "You can understand it that way, but predicting based on the Book of Changes has its reasoning."
"What kind of reasoning?"
Faced with Qin Qi's inquiry, Bing Tianyi found it difficult to explain in words since he had only learned the basics himself. In frustration, he could only demonstrate through action.
"Do you mind if I help you with a divination?" Bing Tianyi asked with a smile as he looked at Qin Qi.
Qin Qi had never asked anyone to tell her fortune before. Although she felt some resistance upon hearing Bing Tianyi's suggestion, she still reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Seeing Qin Qi nod, Bing Tianyi took out three ancient coins from his backpack and asked her, "What do you want to inquire about?"
After thinking briefly, Qin Qi replied straightforwardly, "Just see if my father will encounter any disasters this year."
"Alright, you can shake the coins yourself first," Bing Tianyi said as he handed the three coins to Qin Qi with a smile.
Qin Qi nodded, took the coins, and looked at Bing Tianyi curiously asking, "How do I shake them?"
"Have you never seen a pig run, but you've eaten pork, right? Do you really not know how?" Bing Tianyi said with a helpless smile.
Qin Qi then recalled the scenes he had seen in movies and TV shows. He picked up the three ancient coins in his hand, held them in his palm, and began to shake them.
After getting one line out, Bing Tianyi started recording with a pen and then said, "Now shake it five more times."
Qin Qi nodded and ended up shaking out a total of six lines.
Six lines make one hexagram. Bing Tianyi looked at the hexagram before him: the first line was Yang, the second line was Yin, the third line was Yin, the fourth line was Yang, the fifth line was Yin, and the sixth line was old Yin. It was a Zhen hexagram.
Thinking seriously, Bing Tianyi asked Qin Qi, "What time is it now?"
"Eight forty," Qin Qi replied straightforwardly.
Bing Tianyi continued to ask, "Do you know your father's Ba Zi?"
"Are you talking about his birth time?" Qin Qi asked further.
"Sort of," Bing Tianyi nodded.
Without much thought, Qin Qi blurted out his father's birth time.
After hearing this, Bing Tianyi calculated carefully. After a moment, he spoke up: "If I’m not mistaken, your father has been healthy and well in the first half of this year. However, in the lunar month of October, there is likely to be a calamity involving blood."
As soon as these words were spoken, Qin Qi's expression suddenly changed. He froze for a few seconds before coldly laughing at Bing Tianyi: "Are you going to say that I need to buy something to avert disaster?"
Because Qin Qi had already gained a basic understanding of the street fortune tellers, who often claimed that certain items could change one's luck, leading to purchases costing thousands.
However, Bing Tianyi was quite different. Upon hearing Qin Qi's words, he bluntly said, "That's completely unnecessary. Relying on some item to change your fortune is just a scam."
"Then what do you suggest can change it?" Qin Qi asked curiously.
"There is only one way to change it, and that is to use stillness to create movement," Bing Tianyi asserted.
After hearing this, Qin Qi helplessly smiled and said, "Then go ahead and tell me how to change it."
Bing Tianyi replied straightforwardly, "Let me put it in the simplest terms: this hexagram indicates a change. It essentially tells us that this situation is not necessarily fixed and can be adjusted according to time and place. However, ominous signs still exist. The only way to alter these ominous signs is to adjust the timing and direction."
Before Bing Tianyi could finish his explanation, Qin Qi interrupted with a laugh, "Alright, you don't need to explain all that; it's making my head spin."
Seeing Qin Qi's reaction, Bing Tianyi helplessly asked, "Don't you want to help your father?"
"Well, whether others believe it or not, I certainly don't," Qin Qi said with a smile, her fondness for Bing Tianyi evaporating once again.
She had initially thought this young man was full of positive energy, but through this brief interaction, she had come to conclude that Bing Tianyi was nothing but a fraud.
Noticing Qin Qi's expression, Bing Tianyi said with resignation, "If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do. Just remember what I said today; around October 20th, you'll find out whether I'm telling the truth or not."
Qin Qi quickly waved her hand and laughed, "Alright, you should hurry up and eat; the food on the table is getting cold."
Bing Tianyi had no choice but to comply. After putting away the items he had taken out, he suddenly remembered something else and asked, "Do you know Bai Jie in our county?"
"Are you talking about that woman who runs a small hair salon, Bai Jie?" Qin Qi asked directly.
"Yes, do you know her?" Bing Tianyi quickly inquired.
To be honest, until now, Bai Jie had always been a mystery to Bing Tianyi. During his high school years, he had never heard of how remarkable Bai Jie was.
However, after returning to the high school campus and unintentionally getting to know Bai Jie, he realized that there were so many mysteries surrounding her.
First of all, as just the owner of a small hair salon, it was unlikely that Bai Jie would know so many people from society, especially those who were well-known figures.
Moreover, Bai Jie seemed to have a good relationship with Chen Huaqiang and Shi Tao—one being a millionaire and the other a high-ranking official in the county. Even if both of them had special interests, it was hard to believe they would visit Bai Jie’s small salon for leisure.
Additionally, there was Bai Jie’s concept of money. When Bing Tianyi helped Wang Bing before, he thought it was because he had helped Wang Bing find a good position that led him to win every bet. Just two rounds allowed Wang Bing to win back so much money he had lost. However, something Bai Jie said that day made Bing Tianyi doubt his own abilities.
After serious consideration, Bing Tianyi also realized that this matter was somewhat suspicious. Following his recent deeper understanding of the I Ching, he combined it with Wang Bing's situation and speculated about the position from that day. He discovered that the position was not absolutely favorable for Wang Bing.
As a result, Bai Jie became an even greater enigma in Bing Tianyi's mind.
Now, upon hearing Bing Tianyi's inquiry, Qin Qi furrowed his brows and looked at him curiously, asking, "Are you very familiar with Bai Jie?"
Bing Tianyi shook his head and replied, "Not really."
"Then why are you asking about her?" Qin Qi's frown deepened as he asked clearly.
Seeing the change in Qin Qi's expression, Bing Tianyi smiled and said, "I just find this woman a bit strange and wanted to ask you."
Qin Qi was not very familiar with Bai Jie's situation, but he had heard some things about Bai Jie from his father, which made him realize that Bai Jie was not an ordinary person.
Seeing Bing Tianyi speak like this, Qin Qi immediately said, "If you want to live a little longer, you should never have any dealings with Qin Qi."
"Is it really that serious?" Bing Tianyi asked tentatively.
Qin Qi sneered, "Since you can tell fortunes, why don't you read your own? Why come to ask me?"
Hearing this, Bing Tianyi replied helplessly, "If I could read my own fortune, that would be great. In our line of work, the worst thing is to read your own fortune."
"Then just listen to me; it's definitely the right choice," Qin Qi said while looking at Bing Tianyi's serious expression.
Seeing this situation, Bing Tianyi didn't want to ask too many questions. After taking a few bites of food and realizing it was getting late, just as he was about to tell Qin Qi he was leaving, Qin Qi stood up and smiled, "It's getting late; I have something to attend to, so I'm leaving first. If you haven't eaten well, feel free to order something; I've already prepaid the deposit."
Upon hearing this, Bing Tianyi quickly stood up and smiled, "No need for that; thank you for your hospitality today."
"Since that's the case, let's meet another day."
"Alright, see you next time."
After they both went outside, Bing Tianyi saw Qin Qi drive away and then headed home alone.
