Chapter 209: Siblings Are Not Like Clothes?
"Can you take us there?" My eyes lit up as I eagerly asked her.
Saro's lips still held a faint smile, but I heard the answer I didn't want to hear, "It's very dangerous; I can't put you in harm's way."
Of course, I knew it was dangerous, but I couldn't help but ask, "Why!!?"
"Feng?" A voice suddenly came from behind me. I turned around in my consciousness and saw a petite figure walking over from the direction of the tent. Although the light was dim, I immediately recognized it was Cold Snow.
"Who are you talking to?" Cold Snow looked at me with confusion, seemingly not noticing anyone behind me. My eyelids twitched as I quickly turned back, but the wind passed silently—there was no trace of anyone! It was impossible not to feel disappointed. For a second or two, I thought what had just happened was merely an illusion, but!
I didn't answer Cold Snow's question. Instead, I grabbed her hand and said while walking, "Bring me all the information about the expedition team from that year, now." I didn't believe in illusions; all I needed was to see everyone's information and photos to understand everything.
"Okay." Cold Snow replied and walked toward my tent. I told her I'd wait for her here. She nodded and then headed over to get the documents.
Entering my tent, the small stove inside was still burning brightly. This little space shielded me from the cold wind outside, and stepping inside gave me a lazy feeling. I plopped down onto the blanket and stared at the small sparks, my mind wandering over what had just happened.
After a while, the curtain was lifted, and Cold Snow entered wearing a white down jacket, holding a black notebook in her arms. Since the tent was small and only had one bed inside, I could only invite her to sit down. In the past, when there were many people on the bed, it didn't feel strange; now it was just the two of us—a man and a woman—and my consciousness began to wander.
Cold Snow seemed a bit awkward as well. After sitting down, she took out the black notebook and flipped to a designated page. There was a half-body photo pasted on the paper, with character information written below in black ink.
"There were ten people in total back then; all their information is in here," Cold Snow said as I continued to look.
"Okay." I nodded and kept reading. The first person listed was the organizer of that year's expedition team—the leader—O Fei Yu, male, unmarried, missing at 24 years old, with a graduate degree!
The second person, Feng Zhengyu, is my father. As mentioned earlier, Feng Yuanliang and Feng the Old Master are both respectful titles used by people in this line of work for him. When a name is mentioned often enough, it naturally becomes familiar.
The third person, Luo Ruyun, is a 21-year-old female university student. She has long hair that falls over her shoulders and a gentle smile, and she is indeed very beautiful. However, what captures my attention is not her pretty face or her background, but the fact that the woman I just saw, Saro, is her!
"What’s wrong?" Cold Snow's voice suddenly rang in my ears.
I suppressed my shock and looked up into Cold Snow's eyes, pointing at the woman named Luo Ruyun. I said, "I just saw her!"
"What!?" Cold Snow widened her eyes in surprise. "You mean you saw her?" Cold Snow gestured towards Luo Ruyun, wanting to confirm. I nodded seriously and said, "Please help me call Xianxian and Pei Zi over. I think we need to discuss this."
"Okay." Cold Snow nodded obediently and then got up to leave.
I continued to look at the information above. The fourth person was also a girl named Shizai Xiaoqing, who had two braids and looked very innocent and cute.
Next was another girl named Yu Yabai, who also had long hair with bangs and very fair skin—a charming young lady.
On the next page was a face that was too familiar to be mistaken: Lime! However, it was clear that his name at that time was not Lime but Luo Yu. The photo wasn't very clear, but I could confirm it was him.
Finally, there were four men: Guan Wenxuan, Shen Ming, Wang Zhengzhi, and Shen Fei. Judging by their ages, they were all about the same. The information stated that this group did not belong to any organization; at least so far no one had found out who they worked for. They could be described as a spontaneous group of adventurers who occasionally organized trips together for adventures. That’s what it said, but only those involved truly knew what was going on.
"Fengfeng, I heard from Cold Snow that you saw the woman from the expedition team?" This phrase perfectly describes the current situation where one hears about someone before actually seeing them. I looked up to see Xianxian pushing aside the curtain and entering with Pei Zi and Cold Snow. The four of us squeezed inside, instantly feeling cramped.
I handed my notebook to Cold Snow and sat cross-legged as I spoke: "I did see her, but there hasn’t been any substantial progress."
"What exactly happened?" Xianxian squeezed next to me curiously asking.
"Here’s how it went..." I recounted the process of what I had seen and the conversations that took place.
After listening, Xianxian said to me with a tone of disappointment, "What a pity! Why didn't you catch her?"
I gave a wry smile and, seeing Cold Snow's guilty expression, I comforted her, "I think she will come out to find me again. There will definitely be a second time. Besides, do you think she would honestly tell us the truth after we catch her?"
Xianxian pouted, "This Lord was just making an analogy. I didn't say we should actually catch her. We could have subtly kept the girl here."
Seeing Xianxian's lewd expression, I knew he must have seen her photo and was getting carried away. I just smiled and said nothing. Pei Zi pondered for a moment before speaking up, "I think she wants to tell us something but is worried we might turn out like them."
"Yeah," Cold Snow nodded. "Actually, I think she is more concerned about you." Cold Snow looked at me and said decisively, "Moreover, from a woman's perspective, it's very likely that she came to see you."
"See me? What substantial relationship do I have with her?" I asked in confusion, looking at Cold Snow. After all, she knew much more about me than I did.
Cold Snow nodded, seemingly considering how to articulate her thoughts. "Although there are no clues indicating that Miss Ru Yun and Feng Yuanliang are in a romantic relationship, I believe they both had feelings for each other."
"Are you suggesting that she is my...?" I swallowed hard, wondering if she could be my father's old flame. Ever since I became aware of things, my father had told me that my mother died while giving birth to me. The other people in my family, like Uncle and Second Uncle, were always evasive about my mother's past and sometimes outright refused to talk about it. Even though they didn't speak of it, I still harbored doubts in my heart.
Moreover, the way that woman looked at me when she appeared... and those strange words she said... could it really be?
Suddenly, it felt absurd; how could this be possible? If that were the case, did they end up having an affair during an adventure? That would be utterly insane!
Just as I was lost in thought, Xianxian suddenly poured cold water on my musings. "Alright, alright, stop overthinking it. The chances of that are quite slim."
"I'm just letting you know to pay attention when there's nothing going on. Now then, if there's nothing else, let's all head back." With too many people around making it hard to think clearly, I started ushering them away.
Xianxian lazily got up, slipping on his little cotton slippers while winking at me and saying in a teasing tone, "Pei Zi, did you notice that someone is trying to get us to leave? Sigh, this kid has grown up; is this how it is now? We are brothers after all! Now it seems like siblings are less important than clothes. I understand! So let's go, Miss Xueer; you can chat with him slowly. I'll accompany Snow Princess tonight. Hehehe~"
Xianxian laughed lewdly. Just as I was about to explain myself, Pei Zi joined in the fun. "Hehe, it's cold now; clothes are indeed quite important!" After saying that, he shot me a meaningful glance that any man should easily understand.
I couldn't help but twitch the corners of my mouth, unsure of how to start speaking. If things were to develop normally, this kind of situation would only make things worse, right? After all, even those who have never seen a pig run have heard of it, so this is really hard to say.
“Xue Er, please guide him a bit,” Pei Zi said to Cold Snow before leaving.
Xianxian immediately corrected, “What guidance? It should be ‘development,’ right? Haha, let me tell you a secret, actually…” As she spoke, Xianxian leaned in close to Cold Snow's ear and began whispering.
I suddenly felt that this scene looked very familiar, very familiar indeed…
That's right! At that time, Xianxian seemed to have done the same in front of Rophie! Here we go again! I glared at Xianxian with resentment. Are you still my buddy? How could you expose my shortcomings in front of a girl? Even if I didn't listen, I knew what this coward was talking about.
I saw Cold Snow's face turn a rare shade of red, awkwardly standing there not knowing whether to sit or stand. After saying that one line, Xianxian burst into laughter and left. Before she went out, she even gave me a look that said “No need to thank me,” and carefully closed the curtain for me.
I thank your ancestors for eighteen generations!
I glared at Xianxian. I appreciate your good intentions, but could you not expose my shortcomings at the end? Can you stop telling everyone that “he is still a virgin”? Damn it, I was so angry I really wanted to hit her with my shoe! But she had already left, and there was nowhere to vent my anger.
Moreover, there was a beautiful girl here…
“Don't mind what they said,” I stood up and said to her.
“Okay.” Cold Snow nodded, lowering her head and not looking at me. “If there's nothing else, I'll head back now?”
