A drop of crystal-clear tear, shining with a gentle light, slipped from the corner of Yui's eye—
Yui touched her face, feeling the dampness. Had she really cried???
The tear did not fall to the ground; it was caught in mid-air by a pure white hand. In the open palm, a small tear resembling a pearl was glowing, slowly taking shape.
Suddenly, she was pulled into a warm embrace. The prince held her tightly, so tightly that she could hardly breathe.
He buried his head in her shoulder, his voice low yet full of affection, "Yui... Yui..."
In a daze, Yui recalled that night when the prince had called out someone's name during his nightmares. But she hadn't heard it clearly. Could it be... he was calling her name???
Her mind went blank for a moment, yet it felt as if something had exploded within her, leaving her unable to think clearly.
Why did the prince know this name?
Why did he call this name with such deep emotion?
Why, why???
Her mind was filled with questions, yet she couldn't find any answers.
She opened her mouth to speak, but her voice was hoarse. "Crown Prince, who is Yui?"
The Crown Prince remained silent, still holding her tightly, buried deep in her embrace, unable to sleep all night.
The carriage continued its journey, and there was still about half a day's travel before they would reach the Disaster Area.
No one mentioned what had happened last night, as if those events had never occurred.
The Crown Prince regained his composure, his expression still inscrutable and sinister, while Yui felt her mind tangled up in confusion.
Upon entering the Disaster Area, they were met with scenes of refugees displaced and desolate landscapes overgrown with weeds. The sun blazed down mercilessly, leaving no trace of vitality.
Every household had a Flood jar placed in front of their door, yet it was completely dry inside.
This was likely a plea to the heavens for rain. Yui had seen this in books before but never imagined it would be in such dire circumstances.
The Crown Prince's brows remained tightly furrowed as he slightly lifted the carriage curtain, allowing their simple cart to slowly pass through the pathway.
Yui found it strange; surely heaven had compassion for life and would not allow such a drought to occur without intervention. What could be happening?
