When Siren returned to the bedroom again, it was already evening. Gu Yan placed Siren into the bathtub filled with fresh water and took out the light blue ointment that had been used before to apply it on Siren's wounds.
Gu Yan sat sideways on the edge of the bathtub while Siren leaned his upper body against Gu Yan's chest, resting his head on his shoulder, allowing Gu Yan to apply medicine to the wound on his waist. The scar was healing very slowly, and there seemed to be no change compared to a few days ago. Gu Yan furrowed his brow slightly, revealing a hint of concern.
Still in a state of injury, Siren appeared completely non-aggressive, giving off a feeling of being at the mercy of others. After returning from the swimming pool to the bathtub, Siren initially seemed quite spirited, but soon became less active, languidly resting his upper body on Gu Yan's thigh.
Gu Yan thought that Siren was missing the spaciousness of the swimming pool and felt that the bathtub was too cramped. He played with Siren's long hair and said, "I'll take you up there every day from now on."
Despite having heavily reinforced and carefully secured the bedroom, wanting to confine Siren there for life, he easily made such a promise. This lenient attitude surprised Siren somewhat. He buried his face between Gu Yan's legs, making it hard to see his expression.
Sure enough, the next day Gu Yan picked up Siren again as promised and brought him to the third floor, but this time he did not stay with him. After placing Siren down, he left the third floor and only occasionally went upstairs to check on how Siren was doing. Finally, in the evening, he brought Siren back.
This continued for several days. Meanwhile, the red dot hidden in the grass did not light up again.
The changes that occurred at night consumed a lot of Siren's energy. As Siren's body grew rapidly, his food intake also increased. Even though Gu Yan had prepared for Siren's arrival, he did not expect such a high consumption of ingredients. When Gu Yan handed a plate of raw meat to Siren again, he joked, "With such a big appetite, if it weren't for me, others probably couldn't afford to keep you. If I hadn't found you, you would have likely starved to death."
Siren nuzzled against Gu Yan's palm without care, showing an endearing demeanor that clearly indicated his satisfaction with his current keeper.
"The ready raw meat is almost finished, but there are still some unprocessed bones left. I'll handle them tomorrow; they should last a bit longer. By the day after tomorrow, someone will bring more supplies," Gu Yan said while looking at Siren's pale lips.
Outside the window, the night was hazy; a crescent moon hung in the sky like a lighthouse in darkness, guiding sailors lost in an endless ocean back to their course. Thin clouds barely obscured its light, resembling a light veil draped over it. There were no stars tonight; only that unique brightness occupied the entire sky, causing one to pause and admire.
The full moon had passed two days ago; Gu Yan did not feel regret for missing the best moment. After all, moon phases change—clouds come and go—and even if one cannot experience the most beautiful moment, witnessing the moon gradually wane while decay creeps up along fences and treasures turn to dust has its own flavor.
To smell all fragrances is satisfying even if one cannot possess them; letting roses wilt in one's hands can also be quite fulfilling.
Gu Yan seemed to emit a barely audible soft laugh. Then he affectionately kissed Kiss of the Siren's eyelashes; Siren obediently closed his eyes as his narrow eyelids trembled slightly.
"It's about time; I need to sleep now," Gu Yan said. "You should too; don't tire yourself out too much."
"Rest early tonight." With that, Gu Yan left the bathroom carrying a tray stained with blood.
