In the noisy police station, the phone rang incessantly. Zhao Chuqiao looked up at the electronic screen, which reflected an innocent yet terrified face.
Once, she had comforted victims in the face of rape cases, fully aware that every cry concealed endless fear and pain.
Now, as a Female Captain, she never forgot to seek justice for these voiceless souls.
"Hello?" Zhao Chuqiao pressed the answer button, her voice steady and firm, but her eyes sparkled with alertness.
On the other end, Zhang Huai Xuan's voice trembled as she described her ordeal in broken phrases: "I... I... was... raped."
Zhao Chuqiao's heart sank. She keenly sensed a strong unease and helplessness in Zhang Huai Xuan's voice, as if trapped in a dark abyss with no way out, desperately pleading for help from fate.
"Don't be afraid; I'll send someone right away." While soothing Zhang Huai Xuan, Zhao Chuqiao discreetly extracted key information from her tone, trying to piece together the complete case.
"He's still... he's still nearby... I don't know what to do..." Zhang Huai Xuan's voice grew softer, tinged with tears, as if she was struggling to hold back her emotions from collapsing.
Zhao Chuqiao sighed lightly and gently asked for Zhang Huai Xuan's specific location while instructing her to stay calm, remain in a safe place, and not move until the police arrived.
"I'm arranging for someone to go now; you must protect yourself, understand?" Zhao Chuqiao's tone was resolute, conveying an undeniable sense of command.
Zhang Huai Xuan seemed to be influenced by Zhao Chuqiao's calmness and composure. She took a deep breath and tried to steady herself: "Okay... I'm at..."
Zhao Chuqiao hung up the phone, quickly stood up, grabbed her coat, and prepared to organize police forces to head to the crime scene. Suddenly, the office door was pushed open forcefully, and Li Mian walked in briskly, a hint of anxiety on his face.
"What happened?" Li Mian looked at Zhao Chuqiao's serious expression, a hint of concern in her voice.
"Rape case, the victim is nearby. I'm heading out with my team immediately," Zhao Chuqiao replied firmly, her eyes reflecting an undeniable determination.
Li Mian nodded, saying nothing more, and followed Zhao Chuqiao out of the office, driving towards the crime scene.
On the way, Zhao Chuqiao silently contemplated Zhang Huai Xuan's words, trying to deduce more clues from the few sentences. She knew that time was of the essence; only by quickly locating the victim could they minimize the harm suffered.

The police car weaved through the crowded city streets before finally stopping in front of a dilapidated old apartment building.
After getting out of the car, Zhao Chuqiao and Li Mian walked straight into the hallway. The air was thick with damp mildew and the nauseating stench of garbage, and the dim lighting seemed to grow even more ominous.
"Miss Huai Xuan, where are you?" Zhao Chuqiao called out loudly while pressing the doorbell, hoping for a response. However, all that greeted her was an eerie silence.
Li Mian approached Zhao Chuqiao and whispered, "Don't rush. Let's see if there are any other clues around."
Zhao Chuqiao nodded and began to carefully observe her surroundings. She noticed a distinct fresh bloodstain on the wall of the hallway, which extended down to the lower floor along the corner.
"Captain Li, look!" Zhao Chuqiao pointed at the bloodstain, her tone tinged with tension.
Li Mian followed Zhao Chuqiao's finger and frowned, a serious expression crossing her face.
"This bloodstain looks very fresh, and the color is quite dark; it must have just been shed," Li Mian said as he began to carefully examine the surroundings.
"Miss Huai Xuan said she was raped and that the perpetrator is still nearby, but there is only this bloodstain here and no other findings. What do you think is going on?" Zhao Chuqiao looked at Li Mian, her tone filled with doubt.
"This is indeed strange; Miss Huai Xuan's description does not completely match the situation at the scene," Li Mian said while observing the environment, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.
