"The situation has taken an unexpected turn, which none of us anticipated. So, what are your plans next, Senior Brother?" Star Picker asked with a hint of confusion on his handsome face, inquiring about Chen Shilong's next steps.
Chen Shilong took two steps forward and sighed, saying, "This matter is serious; it concerns the fate of the nation. We cannot afford to be careless. Given this, I have no choice but to meet that person. It is unavoidable."
"That person? Is he the enemy you have who bears a grudge for killing your brother?" Star Picker asked. If it were someone else, he might not be interested, but this individual was Chen Shilong's arch-nemesis, the one responsible for the death of Chen Shilong's brother.
Chen Shilong nodded and replied, "That's right. Originally, I disagreed with the formation of the Three Kingdoms Alliance, but you know how it is with the Eldest Senior Brother. I cannot let my personal matters delay national affairs or affect the bigger picture."
At this point, a trace of sadness appeared on Chen Shilong's face. He truly felt helpless; collaborating with someone who had a deep-seated enmity against him and standing in the same camp was a humiliation and an indelible burden in his heart.
"For the sake of the Eldest Senior Brother, you really have gone through a lot. Now that things have come to this point, you should indeed meet him. You've mentioned him several times, and I am somewhat interested. After all, I will have to confront him sooner or later; why not take this opportunity to see him?" Star Picker said. He had long heard of Lu Chen's reputation but had never had the chance to meet him. Moreover, Star Picker was eager to compete with Lu Chen because he regarded Lu Chen as one of the top achievers among his peers. Thus, he had long considered Lu Chen his rival and was impatient to challenge him.
At their level of cultivation, finding an equally matched opponent was quite rare. Therefore, Star Picker had always wanted to meet Lu Chen, and now that there was an opportunity, he decided to accompany Chen Shilong.
Chen Shilong glanced at Star Picker. Although their time together had not been long, he understood Star Picker's character and approach to life very well. Once Star Picker made up his mind about something, few could change it—not even their master could easily sway him.
Indeed, that was Star Picker's nature; he could be normal at times but once he became determined, it was not something ordinary people could alter. What Star Picker decided to do was something even their master found difficult to influence.
"Alright then, since you are interested, let us go together. We can travel to the capital as brothers and also gather information about the situation there while having each other's support along the way," Chen Shilong said with a helpless shake of his head and a wry smile.
"I have already sent a Secret Letter to Korea and Yamato; they should be on their way to the capital now. In that case, we can set off," Chen Shilong continued. He had written to Korea and Yamato; it was time for them to meet.
"Okay then, you should go prepare what you need to bring. We will depart for the capital this afternoon," Chen Shilong told Star Picker. This trip to the capital would take quite some time by carriage.
"As outsiders with nothing but our own selves to carry around freely, there's no need for any items. If you think it's fine, we can set off now," Star Picker replied straightforwardly since they were indeed outsiders who did not need to carry anything.
Upon hearing this, Chen Shilong seemed to have an epiphany and nodded in agreement: "I almost forgot! Look at my memory! Since you don't need anything, then I won't either. Let's just set off directly; the carriage is ready."
Afterward, Chen Shilong and Star Picker walked out of the military camp together and boarded a low-key yet luxurious carriage driven by two servants. Soon after, they set off at full speed towards the capital city.
In the deep mountains, winding paths lead to a place just over a hundred miles from the capital. However, the actual journey is much longer. Chen Shilong and Star Picker were unable to reach the capital in time and instead took a rest at an inn outside the city.
When the second hour arrived, they set off again, and after about an hour's travel, their carriage slowly entered the capital.
Around noon, in a luxurious yet mysterious restaurant in the capital, on the third floor, the atmosphere was particularly serene.
At that moment, in a private room on the third floor of the restaurant, two Taoists were sitting cross-legged, quietly beginning their meditation.
These two Taoists had peculiar appearances and mannerisms; one had four eyebrows while the other had six.
These two were none other than the Four-Browed Daoist and Six-Browed Daoist sent by Star Gate to assist Korea in their military endeavors. Today, they had arranged to meet with representatives from the Great Qi Dynasty and Daiwa Dynasty at this location.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before soft footsteps echoed from the wooden stairs. The two Taoists simultaneously opened their eyes and exchanged glances.
Soon after, at the entrance around the corner of the stairs, two figures emerged. Both were dressed as Taoists; one appeared younger, in his twenties, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes that clearly indicated he was no ordinary person. The other was older, around thirty, with a more average appearance but a hint of heroism in his brow, suggesting he was someone accustomed to military camps and battlefields. Both were skilled fighters.
This was the first impression of the Four-Browed Daoist and Six-Browed Daoist: both individuals were experts of remarkable caliber.
The two figures were none other than Star Picker from the Great Qi Dynasty's military camp and Chen Shilong, who had disguised himself.
Chen Shilong was dressed as a Taoist in a fitting outfit that did not draw attention. At first glance, one might think he was just an ordinary Taoist. In reality, Chen Shilong was indeed a Taoist; however, his true identity was the Supreme Commander of the Three Armies of Qi Kingdom. Upon arriving in the capital, for convenience and to avoid drawing attention, he had removed his armor and robes to disguise himself as a Taoist before coming to meet with representatives from Korea and Daiwa Dynasty to discuss national affairs.
"Are you Chen Shilong? My fellow brothers have been waiting," said the Four-Browed Daoist as he and Liu Mei Daozhang stood to greet them—a simple gesture among fellow practitioners.
Chen Shilong respectfully returned the greeting and introduced Star Picker: "This is my junior brother, Dao Title Star Picker. It's an honor to meet you both."
Chen Shilong maintained an excellent demeanor; although they belonged to different factions within the Taoist sect, they were ultimately friends within the same path.
The Four-Browed Daoist and Liu Mei Daozhang nodded. The Four-Browed Daoist specifically glanced at Star Picker and asked, "Is this Star Picker?"
As the Four-Browed Daoist looked at Star Picker, Star Picker also gazed back at him. Their eyes met in an exchange that added a layer of intrigue to the atmosphere.
"Having seen the Four-Browed Daoist, the Dao is indeed the Star Picker." In front of the Four-Browed Daoist and Liu Mei Daozhang, both Star Picker and Chen Shilong maintained a very good attitude, not only because they were both members of the Taoist Sect, but also because the Four-Browed Daoist and Liu Mei Daozhang were elders, belonging to their master's generation. Therefore, it was only natural for them to be a bit more respectful.
Moreover, here they only referred to each other by their Dao titles, rather than calling anyone by military titles, because this time, Chen Shilong himself came to meet them as a disciple of the Taoist Sect. Thus, there was no need to adhere to worldly conventions; the mundane world did not matter.
"I have long heard that a talented practitioner has emerged from the Yin Yang Gate. Although young in age, their achievements are quite high. Now that I see you in person, you are indeed young. However, I wonder how genuine your abilities are. If there is an opportunity, we must have a good sparring session to exchange Dao techniques," said the Four-Browed Daoist, expressing his desire to spar with Star Picker.
Upon hearing this, Star Picker smiled mysteriously and replied, "If the Four-Browed Daoist has such an interest, then I can only oblige. I hope you will not hold back on your enthusiasm." Star Picker understood that the Four-Browed Daoist looked down on his age but still responded with a relatively good attitude.
The Four-Browed Daoist lightly snorted and then said nothing more. After a long while, both sides had taken their seats when Chen Shilong spoke up: "Is there still one person missing? Why haven't they arrived yet? Hmph, what a huge attitude! Where do they think we are?"
Chen Shilong's tone was somewhat angry. Originally, this meeting had been agreed upon by several parties together, but Lu Chen had failed to show up as promised, seemingly disregarding them entirely. Especially since there was a bit of history between Chen Shilong and Lu Chen.
Because of this, Chen Shilong harbored considerable resentment towards Lu Chen. It was inevitable that friction would occur between them sooner or later; a major conflict was bound to happen. Chen Shilong had long been prepared for this, so whether he acted early or late made no difference.
The Four-Browed Daoist opened his eyes and glanced at Chen Shilong with a faint smile. He was somewhat aware of the "relationship" between Chen Shilong and Lu Chen and adopted an attitude of watching from the sidelines. It would be best if they fought to the death; he could then reap the benefits.
Just then, light footsteps echoed from the wooden stairs above. Upon closer listening, it was clear that more than one person was coming. Soon enough, at the corner of the stairs appeared several figures of Daoists. Leading them was Lu Chen, followed closely by Lian Dashuang and Yue Shaoting.
