To avoid mistaking people again and to prevent being punished by Zhao Hanyu, I hold his photo every day to look at. I look at it when I wake up and before I sleep; even my phone wallpaper and computer desktop have been changed to his photo.
Seeing me so focused on him, Zhao Hanyu's smile almost reached his ears. "Honey, do you think I've made progress these past few days?" I asked, holding the photo and blinking at him.
Zhao Hanyu replied with a smile, "Yes, there's a lot of progress."
"That's good," I sighed in relief and continued to gaze at the photo.
Noticing how seriously I was looking, Zhao Hanyu couldn't help but remind me, "But photos are just static; if you look at them every day, you'll still mistake me later."
"Huh? What should I do then?" I raised my head and looked at him in confusion.
He chuckled, "If we spend every day together, you'll naturally remember me."
I blinked: "You mean... you want me to go to the office with you every day?"
Zhao Hanyu raised an eyebrow: "Don't want to?"
I shook my head: "It's not that I don't want to; it's just... if I go to the office with you every day, doesn't that mean I'll have to wake up early?"
"Mm."
"Then maybe I'll pass," I shrank my neck. "It takes a lot of effort for me to get out of bed each day; if I wake up early, I might not get up at all."
"And besides, if you don't go to the office for a long time, it won't matter if I remember your face or not."
Hearing this, Zhao Hanyu's expression darkened immediately. "So you don't want to be with me?"
I quickly shook my head: "Of course not!"
"I just really can't get up..."
Zhao Hanyu silently stared at me for a long time before slowly speaking: "I'll go to work tomorrow; you can come after I've woken up, and we can go eat together."
"…Alright," I reluctantly agreed to Zhao Hanyu's suggestion.
The next day, while Zhao Hanyu went to work, I lay in bed playing on my phone. Just as I opened a certain app, Zhao Hanyu snatched my phone away.
"What are you doing?"
I reached out to grab it back but he held me down. "Aren't we still getting familiar with each other?"
He lowered his head to look at his phone and spoke lightly.
"But I'm already very familiar with it."
I argued back, "And I look at the photos every day, so I wouldn't mistake it."
Zhao Hanyu glanced at me and said, "But you didn't recognize me right away just now."
"...That's because you didn't give me time to react!"
I retorted defiantly.
Zhao Hanyu smirked, "Then let's start timing from now."
"..."
I shot him a glare and reluctantly took the phone.
Zhao Hanyu smiled in satisfaction and glanced at his watch. "It's eleven o'clock; you can get up now."
"…I'll get up right away."
I took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to kick him out, quickly freshened up, and then went to the company with him.
During lunch, I accidentally caught a glimpse of Zhao Hanyu's phone screen.
It was a photo of me.
I raised an eyebrow and couldn't help teasing him, "Why are you using my photo as your screensaver?"
"This way, I won't mistake it," Zhao Hanyu replied seriously.
I laughed, "Your face is so distinctive; how could I possibly mistake it?"
Zhao Hanyu looked at me for a moment, seemingly wanting to say something but hesitating.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable under his gaze, I touched my face and asked, "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Zhao Hanyu shook his head and silently looked away.
After lunch, I was getting ready to go home when Zhao Hanyu stopped me.
"What's wrong?"
I looked at him in confusion.
Zhao Hanyu cleared his throat and said, "About your screensaver..."
I paused for a moment before realizing what he meant.
"What about my screensaver?"
I took out my phone, unlocked it, and saw that it displayed a photo of Zhao Hanyu.
Zhao Hanyu stared at the screen for a while, his cheeks gradually turning red.
I raised an eyebrow and deliberately asked him, "Do you want to use my photo as your screensaver?"
Zhao Hanyu's ears instantly turned red.
He opened his mouth as if to say something but then held back.
I was a bit surprised. When did this guy become so reserved?
I smiled and patted him on the shoulder, "Since you don't need it, I'll head home first."
"Wait!"
Zhao Hanyu quickly called out to me.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at him, "Is there anything else?"
Zhao Hanyu hesitated for a few seconds before slowly speaking, "You should use my photo as your screensaver."
"Why?"
I looked at him in surprise, "Didn't you say you didn't need it?"
Zhao Hanyu's ears turned even redder. He avoided my gaze and said softly, "Our photo looks better. If you use that as your screensaver, you'll remember that I'm your husband."
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing what he meant.
So he actually cared about this.
I couldn't help but laugh, reaching out to pinch his cheek, "You don't have to worry about that; I definitely won't mistake anyone."
Zhao Hanyu's ears were flushed red. He took my hand away and seriously told me, "I still think using our photo is better."
Seeing how insistent he was, I decided not to refuse anymore.
"Alright then."
I opened my phone and changed the screensaver to our photo.
Seeing this, Zhao Hanyu finally sighed in relief.
He handed me his phone and instructed, "You should use this photo as your screensaver too."
I took the phone and glanced at it; in the photo, I was leaning on Zhao Hanyu's shoulder with my eyes closed, sound asleep.
"When did you take this?"
I looked at him in surprise; I had no memory of ever falling asleep on him.
Zhao Hanyu blinked, "Right when you fell asleep."
"..."
I was speechless for a few seconds before realizing, "So you intentionally woke me up?"
Zhao Hanyu didn't respond, which I took as an admission.
I was annoyed; this guy was getting more cunning!
After changing the screensaver, I went home.
That night before going to bed, I suddenly remembered that our marriage certificate was still in Zhao Hanyu's office, so I went to find him the next day.
As soon as I entered the office, I saw Zhao Hanyu staring at my phone's screensaver.
I raised an eyebrow and quickly walked over, handing him my phone, "What's wrong? Is my screensaver prettier than yours?"
A hint of panic flashed across Zhao Hanyu's face. He quickly locked the screen and shook his head, "No."
"Then why were you staring at my screensaver?"
I looked at him with suspicion. Zhao Hanyu's ears turned slightly red, and he lowered his gaze, not daring to look at me. "It's nothing, I just think your screensaver is pretty," he said.
"Is that so?" I squinted my eyes, clearly not believing what he said.
Zhao Hanyu nodded. "Yeah."
I stared at him for a while, then suddenly leaned closer and whispered, "You don't actually like me, do you?"
Zhao Hanyu froze for a moment, then suddenly looked up at me, a hint of shock in his eyes. I felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze and touched my nose. "I was joking; don't take it seriously."
He was silent for a few seconds before slowly replying, "I don't like you."
"…Oh."
Although I had already guessed the answer, hearing him say it made me feel a bit disappointed. I took a deep breath and forced a smile. "No matter whether you like me or not, we're already married, so you have to accept it even if you don't."
Zhao Hanyu looked at me without saying anything.
I felt a bit annoyed under his gaze and glared at him. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Zhao Hanyu shook his head. "It's nothing."
"…"
I couldn't be bothered with him and directly extended my hand. "Where's the marriage certificate? I want to take it home."
Zhao Hanyu frowned. "What do you need the marriage certificate for?"
"Of course to keep it at home," I replied impatiently. "Are you planning to keep it in the office to attract attention?"
The corner of Zhao Hanyu's mouth seemed to twitch slightly.
He was silent for a few seconds before slowly speaking again. "If I give it to you, how will you repay me?"
"…"
I struggled to suppress the urge to roll my eyes. "What kind of repayment do you want?"
Zhao Hanyu looked at me with a meaningful smile on his face. "Will you give me whatever I want?"
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing what he meant. I stepped back cautiously and looked at him warily. "Let me tell you, don't even think about it!"
Seeing my defensiveness, Zhao Hanyu sighed with a hint of hurt in his expression. "I just wanted you to kiss me; where did your mind go?"
"…"
My face heated up, and I awkwardly cleared my throat. "You could have just said that directly; why beat around the bush?"
Zhao Hanyu smirked slightly. "If I say it directly, will you kiss me?"
"…No."
I refused without hesitation. Zhao Hanyu's smile instantly froze on his face. I noticed he seemed a bit disappointed and couldn't help but comfort him, "Don't worry, even though I won't kiss you, I can help you change your certificate."
Zhao Hanyu was taken aback for a moment. "Change the certificate?"
"Yes." I smiled and nodded, "I'll change your single certificate to a married one, so you won't be bothered by others in the future."
The corners of Zhao Hanyu's mouth twitched again. He stared at me for a while and suddenly said, "No need to trouble yourself."
"It's not a trouble at all." I waved my hand, "As long as you give me the marriage certificate, I'll change it for you right away."
Zhao Hanyu was silent for a few seconds before slowly saying, "I don't want to change the certificate."
"..." My smile instantly vanished. I glared at him and turned to leave.
Zhao Hanyu hurriedly grabbed my arm, "Don't be angry, I was just joking."
I looked at him coldly, "Then just give me the marriage certificate."
Zhao Hanyu hesitated for a few seconds and then sighed, "Alright." He said this while taking out two small red books from the cabinet in his office and handing them to me.
I took the marriage certificate and finally smiled. Just as I was about to leave, Zhao Hanyu suddenly pulled me back and whispered in my ear, "You still haven't kissed me."
"..." I sighed helplessly and stood on my tiptoes to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Is this okay?"
A smile immediately appeared on Zhao Hanyu's face. "This is fine."
