In an open area, surrounded by desolation, stood a towering complex of buildings, with six large characters prominently displayed above the entrance—Mental Rehabilitation Center.
Inside one of the rooms in this building, a petite and charming little girl curled up on the bed, her expression filled with fear as she trembled.
With a creak, the door opened, and the girl let out a startled cry.
The room's light turned on, revealing a somewhat disheveled Youth standing at the doorway, smiling at her.
"Xiaohua, don't be afraid, it's me."
"Oh, it's Sanmu Brother," the girl sighed in relief, her face lighting up with joy.
"Did you see something bad?" Zhang Sen asked as he sat down.
The girl nodded, fear still evident on her Face.
"Yes, I feel like there are more of them now, and they seem restless, always surrounding me."
Gently stroking the girl's hair, Zhang Sen looked at her with deep affection.
"Don't be afraid; Sanmu Brother is here. Sanmu Brother will protect you."
"Okay."
As he helped the girl settle down to sleep, Zhang Sen carefully tucked her in with the blanket.
Through the window, one could see the thick, inky clouds hanging heavily in the sky outside.
Crack!
Thunder Flash echoed loudly.
He slowly walked over and drew the curtains.
Outside the door, there were sounds as something shook the wooden door.
Zhang Sen suddenly turned around, his eyes wide: "Get lost!"
The thing outside seemed to emit a sense of fear and gradually moved away.
"Ying~" The girl shrank back a little in fear.
Zhang Sen approached, gently touched the girl's delicate face, and whispered in her ear, "Sanmu Brother will protect you. Sleep peacefully." After saying that, he lightly kissed her Face.
The girl indeed felt much more at ease; her fear dissipated, and she smiled sweetly.
He opened the door and stepped outside, Zhang Sen's expression darkened.
The surrounding world was almost entirely desolate, with yellow dust swirling everywhere. Occasionally, a few withered trees struggled against the onslaught of the fierce winds, and here and there on the ground lay one or two animal skeletons.
In the sky, dark clouds swirled like ink, forming a vortex that slowly rotated.
Within the clouds, thunder roared, and the flashes of lightning did not bring any sense of brightness; instead, they accentuated the oppressive atmosphere.
The entire world seemed to consist solely of this Mental Rehabilitation Center. Beyond it lay nothing but wasteland, resembling a scene from an apocalypse.
Inside a room of the psychiatric hospital, it was sealed off by a heavy iron door. Only one person could enter or exit the entire Mental Rehabilitation Center.
Walking down the silent corridor, devoid of light, occasionally a flash of lightning illuminated Zhang Sen's terrifying expression.
"Bed Two, hurry back to take your medicine; it's time to sleep."
Suddenly, a young girl in a white nurse's uniform appeared and called out to Zhang Sen.
Zhang Sen ignored her and walked straight past, his voice echoing in the corridor.
"Nurse, you should head back quickly. Look at the sky; it might rain soon."
The nurse wanted to call out to Zhang Sen again, but a bolt of lightning struck nearby, startling her and turning her face pale. She glanced at the imposing figure in the distance, bit her lip, and returned inside.
Before long, Zhang Sen had arrived at the door of a room that was different from the others.
This room was large, occupying an entire floor, and its entrance was made of exaggerated alloy steel—no cannonball could break through it.
The door was not locked, but no one else could open it except for Zhang Sen; no one else would come to this floor.
On the door, which gleamed with a metallic sheen, a ship's wheel-style switch stood out prominently.
With a clanking sound, the lock turned and was opened by Zhang Sen.
As soon as the lock clicked open, before the door even moved, a restless energy surged from within, and waves of cold air began to flow out.
Creak!
He gently opened the door just a crack, and immediately a chill like white mist poured out, blown by the cold wind from inside the room, hitting Zhang Sen's face.
Ignoring the gust, Zhang Sen slowly opened the door wider until it was enough for him to pass through.
Stepping inside, as soon as he entered, the door suddenly closed behind him.
Inside the room, there were none of the silly ghosts he had seen before, nor any so-called ballroom.
The entire space was exceptionally vast but shrouded in white mist, illuminated by an eerie blue light that seemed to come from nowhere.
Stepping further inside, the White Mist swirled behind him, as if a Wandering Soul had passed by.
The deeper he went, the more Wandering Souls surrounded him, drifting around and occasionally emitting eerie, terrifying sounds.
There was no fear and no hesitation; Zhang Sen's footsteps remained steady as he moved in one direction.
The Wandering Souls circled around him, their menacing gestures unable to harm him.
Eventually, he arrived at a small room of about ten square meters, devoid of any luxurious decor.
There was no furniture at all; even the walls were rough concrete, clearly an unfinished space.
In the center of the room stood a cylindrical pedestal about one meter tall, on top of which rested a spherical crystal.
It emitted a deep blue glow, with bolts of lightning swirling around it like a lightning ball.
As he entered the room, the Wandering Souls outside became agitated, and the sound of howling winds echoed all around.
A terrifying noise emanated from afar, seemingly from the deepest depths of hell.
Yet no matter how fierce the commotion outside became, they dared not approach the house, merely flailing about outside.
Ignoring their turmoil, Zhang Sen slowly placed a hand on the crystal and then closed his eyes.
Buzz!~
Suddenly, the entire world seemed to calm down; time came to a standstill at that moment.
The howling winds ceased, the dark clouds stopped swirling, the dust settled, and the Wandering Souls halted their drifting. The patients and nurses at the Mental Rehabilitation Center, along with the doctors, were frozen in that instant.
After a moment, Zhang Sen abruptly opened his eyes, and time resumed its flow; everything returned to normal.
However, the dark clouds that lingered in the sky slowly began to disperse, transforming back into a clear sunny day.
The strong winds gradually ceased, the yellow earth slowly settled, and the withered trees revived, sprouting new branches and leaves.
The bones faded away, turning into living animals, and the bare yellow earth was gradually covered by a layer of lush green grass. Flowers bloomed everywhere, and insects and birds sang in harmony.
Inside the Mental Rehabilitation Center, in that peculiar building, all the White Mist swirled back in one direction.
The lights turned on, brightening the entire space once again.
Accompanied by chatter, laughter, and bursts of beautiful music, the once lifeless room was once more occupied by these beings indistinguishable from humans, continuing their never-ending dance party.
"Hey! Zhang Sen, want to grab a drink?"
Ignoring the Male Ghost who greeted him, Zhang Sen stepped out and locked the door behind him, his expression cold.
"The space is starting to tremble; is some disaster about to strike the outside world again?"
(To be continued.)
