Paper Crane is a rather rare spell that requires little magical power but is difficult to master. One must have a deep understanding of Dao Fa to use it. Indeed, this old man may not possess strong magical abilities, but his more than eighty years of cultivation have not been in vain.
Later, he called for a Dog Cage from the villagers and stuffed all those ugly creatures inside. He wrapped dozens of red thread lines around it and affixed a talisman on each of its six sides. It wasn't necessary to go through such trouble; Ye Mingshang's talismans were already sufficient to seal them. However, the old man was meticulous and insisted on taking extra precautions.
Watching the old man's skilled movements and serious expression, Ye Mingshang nodded. Although the old man's magical power was not strong, his lifelong experience in Exorcism had allowed him to live to such an old age, which was certainly not without merit.
Being serious and meticulous was the reason he could live safely. Taking steady steps, not being greedy for achievements, and not rushing forward allowed him to subdue spirits stronger than himself and live a long life.
After dealing with those Fellow creatures, the old man tidied up the house and went to prepare dinner. He was old, had no children throughout his life, and lost his Boss early, so he lived alone. He always took his time with tasks, not because he was physically slow but because he feared finishing too quickly would leave him with nothing to do and feel lonely.
Ye Mingshang did not help; he sat quietly nearby to rest his eyes. This was also his way of passing time. Although he was young, he felt loneliness just as deeply.
“Xiao Ye, wash your hands and come eat.”
“Coming.” Hearing the old man's voice, Ye Mingshang woke from his meditation.
Xiao Ye was what he asked the old man to call him. At over ninety years old, it felt strange for Zheng Guoxing to call him senior, so calling him Xiao Ye felt more intimate. Initially, Zheng Guoxing was reluctant, but as Ye Mingshang repeatedly called him Uncle Zheng, he gladly accepted.
The meal was simple home cooking—nothing fancy—but it had a unique richness. The old man specially killed a chicken for him and made Little Chicken Stew with Mushrooms. Although it was northeastern cuisine, it was classic no matter where one went. The old man had fallen in love with it after trying it once during his travels with his master when he was young.
“Is it good?” the old man asked.
“Delicious! Better than what the chefs at fancy restaurants make,” Ye Mingshang replied while devouring the chicken.
Seeing him like this brought a smile of satisfaction to the old man's face. Having no children of his own and living alone for so long, suddenly having someone around felt strange at first but brought him much joy because there was now company in the house.
Around two or three in the afternoon, Paper Crane flew back.
"Ha ha ha! What does old Fellow want from me this time?" Before the Paper Crane could land, a hearty voice rang out. A creature with a fish tail and a human body appeared in a flash of blue light.
The fishman was entirely dark blue, with scales on its tail, skin without scales, and a large fish head that bore some resemblance to a human. Its mouth was wide, with fins on either side and long whiskers at the corners.
"South Sea Sharkman!" Ye Mingshang's eyes lit up.
The Sharkman turned around and exclaimed, "Oh? Where did this little brat come from, recognizing me?"
Before Ye Mingshang could respond, the Sharkman looked displeased and said to Zheng Guoxing, "Why did you let an outsider come here? You know I don't like dealing with outsiders."
"This is Ye Mingshang, a senior from my Taoist Sect, highly skilled in magic. We need his help with the water ghost situation," Zheng Guoxing introduced.
The Sharkman scoffed, "A little kid like him, how much ability can he possibly have?"
Hmph~ Another comment about his age. Although he was only in his twenties, with the memories from his past life, he had lived for hundreds of years. Was he really just a child? Had they never encountered a genius before? He was in his twenties but had already achieved what many Daoists could never accomplish in their entire lives. Was that not right?
Not wanting to explain himself, Ye Mingshang slightly released his aura.
Woosh!
A thick magical power swirled around him, instantly elevating his presence to one of great depth and strength. The Sharkman, who had initially dismissed him, suddenly felt an overwhelming aura behind him that was even more terrifying than their king's. He broke out in a cold sweat. Even as a Soul Body, he couldn't help but tremble and turned back cautiously.
What he once regarded as an insignificant youth now appeared to him like a blazing sun, radiating golden light and exuding an air of holiness. The dense magical power surged like vast rivers and lakes, rolling forth and giving an impression of unfathomable depth even when contained.
This pressure felt stronger than that of the Shark King; it left him breathless as if a single glance from the other could end his life.
"Enough, enough! Quickly retract your magic; otherwise, he'll be finished," Zheng Guoxing hurriedly intervened.
At this point, Ye Mingshang withdrew his power, and the vast aura immediately vanished without a trace, making him appear just like an ordinary person.
Sharkman stared in shock, no longer daring to underestimate him, because this young man, despite his age, possessed the power to kill him at any moment. This terrifying feeling was something he had only experienced with the Demon King.
“L-Lord, Little Demon does not understand etiquette and has offended you. Please forgive me,” Sharkman quickly apologized respectfully.
Ye Mingshang did not want to hold a grudge against him; after all, he was the one seeking help and didn’t want to make things too awkward. He waved his hand and said, “Forget it, I forgive you.”
“Thank you, my lord.”
...
“What! Those water ghosts are so rampant!” Sharkman exclaimed in surprise.
Hearing the explanation from the two, Sharkman was astonished. Generally, water ghosts were quite timid, bullying the weak and fearing the strong. They wouldn’t dare act up in places with Taoists or Yin Yang Masters. Zheng Guoxing had lived here for decades, and those water ghosts hadn’t dared to cause much trouble during that time. Now they were so bold? Moreover, they even dared to confront the powerful Ye Mingshang? Were these really the water ghosts he knew?
“That’s how it is. Although they are not strong, they are difficult to deal with in the water. I can’t swim as fast as they do, and they are determined to escape, so I can’t catch up.”
“Also, there are surprisingly many water ghosts here. Even using Bait, I can’t lure them all out. I don’t have much time to waste here, so I want you to help find the water ghosts hiding in the reservoir so we can catch them all at once.”
Listening to Ye Mingshang’s words, Sharkman patted his chest and said, “Don’t worry. Just a bunch of water ghosts; leave it to me.”
The South Sea Sharkman, while not particularly strong in combat, was extremely agile in water and could swim very fast. If he was in his own territory, his strength would increase significantly, which solidified their immortal status as the royal family of the waters. (To be continued.)
