Sitting in the car, Ye Mingshang closed his eyes, his mind racing with thoughts.
Now, looking back at the time he killed someone, he found it unbelievable. He had killed many monsters and demons, but this was the first time he had taken a human life. However, just moments ago, he felt no discomfort at all; instead, he actually enjoyed it.
This was quite perverse. He never thought he had such a penchant for it. Although he did not reject killing, enjoying the process was somewhat dangerous. He did not want to become a murderer.
"Could it be because of him...?"
Ye Mingshang thought to himself, his mind in chaos. He shook his head, trying to shake off his worries.
"Forget it, let's take it one step at a time."
Meanwhile, several cars had been following the tire tracks for quite some time but still could not find any sign of the vehicle. It wasn't until several strong winds blew through that they cleared the tracks completely, and they still found no clues.
"This is ridiculous! We've driven over a hundred kilometers and still can't find anything!" one person slammed the steering wheel in frustration.
"Stop complaining. The traces are gone; let's head back and see how things are on their side," the passenger advised.
"Sigh! I guess we have no choice."
Of course, Ye Mingshang was not unprepared. He hadn't run very far; the reason they couldn't find any trace was that he had summoned a few ghosts to confuse them, creating what is known as a Ghost Wall.
Among those who followed him, none wore protective talismans or belonged to any circles; just this simple Ghost Wall was enough to fool them.
Three days later...
After overcoming numerous obstacles and nearly being discovered by other teams several times, they finally arrived at the legendary entrance to the Celestial Abode.
The yellow sand stretched endlessly towards the horizon, vast and boundless.
The hot, dry wind mixed with sand blew around, stirring his hair and causing the sand to sting his face.
The desert remained a desert, with no buildings in sight, not even a single poplar or cactus.
"Is the entrance right here?" Ye Mingshang asked with a frown.
The professor nodded. "That's right, but the time to enter is limited; the next opportunity will be in two hours."
Ye Mingshang immediately sat down cross-legged, remaining still like a mountain despite the wind and sun.
The professor, being older, naturally couldn't endure such torment and had retreated early into the car to enjoy the air conditioning and cold drinks.
Time passed second by second, and Ye Mingshang's brow twitched. "They're coming."
"Vroom!~"
"Vroom!~"
"Hmph! Hmph! Hmph!~"
The sound of car engines echoed from afar, and standing on the small dune, he could clearly see a convoy speeding toward them from a distance, like beasts running wild in the desert.
"What's meant to come has come..."
Ye Mingshang sighed and slowly stood up, shaking his body slightly to disperse the sand covering him.
The professor also noticed those people but had no intention of showing himself; he preferred to stay comfortably in the car, enjoying the air conditioning and sipping on soda. All he wanted was to re-enter the Celestial Abode; he didn't care who he was with.
As he watched those mechanical beasts roaring toward them, Ye Mingshang neither attacked nor dodged; he simply observed them quietly.
“Chirp!~”
“Chirp!~”
The sound of brakes echoed as a row of off-road vehicles and beach buggies came to a stop around him, subtly hinting at an encirclement.
A group of people got out of their vehicles, and the first among them was none other than Luo Chenghui. Adjusting his glasses, Luo Chenghui smiled and said, “Brother Ye, you’re being quite inconsiderate. You left without a word and went off to find the professor by yourself.”
“That place is very important to me. I didn’t want anyone to interfere,” Ye Mingshang replied calmly.
“Hey!~ I think you’re being a bit rude,” a seductive woman’s voice chimed in as she appeared in view.
Even in the desert, the Black Widow didn’t forget to dress up; her fluffy sun-protective outfit couldn’t hide her alluring figure. The young Tatar was not by her side, which likely meant he had met with misfortune.
Ye Mingshang chose not to engage with her, merely glancing back at her, which made the Black Widow too intimidated to speak.
“What’s going on with this Fellow?!” the Black Widow thought to herself.
In that fleeting moment, even in the scorching desert, she felt an inexplicable chill that penetrated deep into her soul. It felt as if she were being watched by a demon, as if from the depths of hell.
Luo Chenghui also sensed that something was off with Ye Mingshang and was about to ask when Ye Mingshang waved him off.
“I am different from you; I have bonds that cannot be severed. This place is very important to me. If you insist on following me, I won’t stop you, but do not disturb me. Otherwise, I cannot guarantee what I might do.” His voice was calm and steady, like a narrator telling a story, yet it carried an unsettling chill that seeped into the bones.
Afterward, Ye Mingshang asked how they had found this place. Luo Chenghui explained that on the night he left, one of the professor's subordinates accidentally wandered into their camp and was captured by them.
They obtained clues from him and found the original camping site of the professor after regrouping with their convoy. Following various leads, they managed to track down this location. Besides the subordinate's fragmented words, much of their success relied on that Feng Shui Master.
Thanks to his skills in locating hidden treasures along the way, they were able to find this place; otherwise, they might have had to abandon their mission without any results.
To be honest, Ye Mingshang did not want anyone to enter the Celestial Abode; it was a place filled with his precious memories, and he was unwilling to let anyone destroy it.
However, since Luo Chenghui was also his friend, if it was unavoidable, then so be it, as long as nothing inside would be damaged.
Soon, the ground began to tremble, and the shaking grew stronger, as if an earthquake of magnitude eight had struck. Under such vibrations, only Ye Mingshang could stand firm.
Accompanying the tremors, the ground that was once covered in yellow sand started to spread outwards, revealing a Sand Vortex in the center.
The Sand Vortex spun rapidly, resembling a large mouth waiting for its prey to arrive.
The professor stepped out of the vehicle and gazed at the massive Sand Vortex with intense eyes. "This is it; the entrance is right here!"
"Is that so?" Ye Mingshang furrowed his brow.
"That's right. This is the only known way to enter the Celestial Abode. You can only gain the qualification for the challenge by jumping into the Quicksand," the professor nodded.
The strength of the Quicksand was formidable, with a diameter of ten meters. Such a vast area of Quicksand was extremely powerful; falling in would likely mean certain death. Even Ye Mingshang himself did not dare to be completely confident in safely navigating through it.
To enter or not to enter?
(To be continued.)
