The young man stood there, frozen in place, as the cold blade gently rested against his neck. His fist hovered in mid-air, the icy chill from the knife causing the hairs on his arms to stand on end, a bead of cold sweat slowly sliding down his forehead.
Ye Mingshang looked at him with a faint smile. "Now, can we have a proper conversation?"
The young man, displaying some spirit, snorted coldly. "Hmph! If you want to kill me, just do it. No need for all this nonsense."
"Oh? If that's the case..." Ye Mingshang's gaze sharpened, and he tightened his grip slightly.
"Is it over...? How disappointing..." The young man closed his eyes in despair, awaiting death.
Suddenly, he felt a lightness in his hand, followed by the sound of a blade being sheathed. "What’s going on?" The young man opened his eyes in confusion and saw that the knife resting against his neck had been removed and placed into the sheath that should have been in his own hand.
"What do you mean?" he asked, frowning.
"Nothing much. I like this knife, so consider it a wager for your life," Ye Mingshang shrugged and said.
"What?!" The young man's brows furrowed even tighter; this reasoning seemed far-fetched. He had already lost the knife, and Ye Mingshang could end his life at any moment. To call it a wager was absurd.
"However..."
"Hah! So there are conditions," the young man said with a bitter smile.
"While I won't kill you, you must accept being sealed and sent to the capital for imprisonment."
"Imprisoned? Heh..." The young man laughed bitterly. "They say it's imprisonment, but they actually want to use me for research."
"I can't help it if you understand me that way," Ye Mingshang replied, curling his lip.
"Hmph! I'd rather die than be your guinea pig!" The young man's eyes widened. Suddenly, the muscles in his upper body began to swell and expand, easily tearing apart his shirt. Moments later, a three-meter tall, pitch-black creature covered in sharp spikes appeared before him.
"Your biggest mistake was allowing me to transform!" The Half-Demon felt an endless power within him and shouted as he swung a fist forward.
However, that punch stopped mid-air and could not fall. A chill ran through his waist, and he felt his center of gravity shift. A section of his dark body was severed in half with a loud thud as it fell to the ground.
"Your biggest mistake was overestimating yourself." Ye Mingshang casually waved away the blood on his blade, sheathed it, and said coolly.
"Damn..." The Half-Demon struggled to extend his hand, his expression filled with unwillingness, but he no longer had any chance left. Seconds later, his palm fell weakly. Soon after, the massive body of the Half-Demon slowly dissipated, gradually revealing a young man with a bloodied torso, blood flowing from his waist, and his face pale.
The young man was not dead yet, but there was little life left in his eyes, and blood lingered at the corner of his mouth.
"Thank you..." This was the young man's last words before he lost all vitality.
No soul escaped because demons do not possess souls; when they die, they simply vanish. Even if he was a Half-Demon, it was the same. Perhaps this was better for him; sometimes knowing is more painful than eternal sleep, erasing all traces of consciousness and existence.
"Poor child," Ye Mingshang shook his head and turned to leave.
...
"Uncle Er, do you think Brother Ye can defeat that monster?" Lu Mingxuan asked as he lit a cigarette.
“Hmm, it's hard to say. That monster is too strong, completely beyond the realm of humanity,” Director Lu said as he took a puff of his cigarette.
“So does that mean Brother Ye is definitely going to lose?”
“Not necessarily. Although that monster is powerful, we haven't seen Ming Shang go all out either. The outcome is still uncertain. I just hope he can come back safely. If it really doesn't work out, then I won't be the director anymore.”
Lu Mingxuan was shocked. “Uncle, you’ve fought for half your life to reach this position. Are you really willing to give it up?”
Director Lu chuckled lightly. “What’s there to be reluctant about? I initially became a police officer because I wanted to change some things with my efforts, but later I realized it’s incredibly difficult, so difficult that even if I spent my whole life on it, I might not achieve it. I'm already fifty years old and have been a director for ten years. It’s likely to stay this way until retirement; it doesn’t hold much meaning.”
Lu Mingxuan wanted to say something else when the Junior Officer pointed and exclaimed, “Look! Brother Ye is coming out!”
Turning around, they saw Ye Mingshang walking over without any signs of battle on him. “Didn’t find it... wait! That knife!!”
The knife in Ye Mingshang's hand was quite conspicuous; he hadn’t put it in the box but was holding it directly.
“How did it go?” Lu Mingxuan asked eagerly.
Ye Mingshang held the knife out in front of him. “Do I need to say anything more?”
“Haha! I knew you were amazing; you solved the problem that had been troubling us in no time,” Lu Mingxuan laughed heartily.
“Brother Ye, your skills are comparable to Warm Wine Slays Hua Xiong from the Three Kingdoms!” the Junior Officer exclaimed, giving a thumbs up in admiration.
Director Lu didn’t say much more, letting out a sigh of relief and smiling slightly as he said, “Thank you…”
Although he said he didn't care, how could he truly let it go in his heart? Now that he could continue to stay in this position and pursue the unfinished business, he felt quite excited.
Ye Mingshang smiled and said, "Let's have someone clean up inside first. We can talk later."
"Okay." Lu Mingxuan replied and instead of making a call, he ran over himself. Ye Mingshang wanted to call him back; after all, the scene wasn't very pleasant. But then he thought that Lu Mingxuan was a Special Police officer, and such a scene shouldn't scare him, so he didn't shout.
However, moments later, Lu Mingxuan came out from inside, but his expression was not good. "Hmm? Were you really scared?" Ye Mingshang wondered.
"What's wrong? Were you scared?" Ye Mingshang asked.
Lu Mingxuan's expression was unnatural. "Brother Ye, are you sure you really killed that monster?"
Ye Mingshang frowned. "What happened?"
"Inside, there was nothing at all~"
"How is that possible!" Ye Mingshang exclaimed in surprise.
"Really, if it weren't for the pools of blood on the ground, I would have thought you just went in to pick up a knife," Lu Mingxuan said.
Ye Mingshang got out of the car with a cold face and quickly walked into the factory. He pushed the door open forcefully, and what met his eyes were only a few pools of black blood—nothing else remained.
"How could this be..." Ye Mingshang frowned as he walked over, noticing no signs of movement. On the ground, he saw a few small words written in blood—"We will meet again." (To be continued.)
