The woman suddenly swung her sharp claws, causing Ye Mingshang to release his grip. She nimbly jumped back a few steps, keeping her distance while watching him warily.
The woman had undergone some changes; her eyes had turned into animal-like vertical pupils, and Eudora had transformed into pointed animal ears. The fangs on either side of her mouth were exposed, and her hands had become furry paws with sharp, elongated claws. A large, fluffy tail sprouted from behind her.
"Ha ha, you really are a fox spirit," Ye Mingshang chuckled lightly.
The woman looked at him with suspicion. "Who exactly are you?!"
Ye Mingshang sneered, "Who I am is not important. I just have a few questions for you. Answer me, or I will kill you."
"Hmph! Kill me? That depends on whether you have the ability!" The woman, now referred to as the Fox Demon, huffed angrily and suddenly lunged forward, quickly approaching Ye Mingshang while reaching for his neck with her paws, clearly intending to retaliate in kind.
"Ha~ you really hold a grudge," Ye Mingshang chuckled lightly, standing still as he casually waved his hand forward.
"Smack!"
"Wow!"
The Fox Demon screamed as Ye Mingshang slapped her away, but she managed to twist in mid-air and barely landed on her feet. Her eyes widened in anger, one side of her face was swollen, and there were traces of blood at the corner of her mouth.
"Tell me what I want to know, or you'll die," Ye Mingshang said calmly.
The Fox Demon glared at him with trembling rage. "Wow!" she shouted and then waved her hand, releasing a wave of fragrance into the air. She began to sway her hips, creating an oddly seductive atmosphere.
"The Fox Charm... Didn't I tell you not to play tricks on me?" Ye Mingshang shouted angrily. He quickly drew a symbol with his right fingertip on his left hand and then extended his left hand forward.
"Golden Light Manifest, Protect Real Person, Urgent Order!"
Suddenly, golden light erupted from Ye Mingshang's left hand and shone upon the Fox Demon, causing her to scream in pain as the charm was interrupted. She tried to evade it, but the golden light followed her relentlessly. She howled in agony as her body twisted gradually into a shadowy gray fox.
"Please... spare me. I'll tell you anything you ask... please..." the Fox Demon pleaded in pain.
Only then did Ye Mingshang retract his spell and sneer, "You brought this upon yourself. If you had cooperated earlier, this wouldn't have happened."
Fox Demon felt angry but did not dare to resist any longer. This man was unfathomable, completely on a different level than her. If she continued to resist, her cultivation would likely be ruined.
"Master, if you have any questions, the little fox will answer without holding back," Fox Demon said, kneeling on one knee and clasping her fists.
Ye Mingshang threw a stack of documents on the table at her. "Here, how much do you know about this matter?"
Fox Demon picked up the documents and after glancing through them, her face suddenly turned pale with fear.
Ye Mingshang remained silent, calmly watching her and waiting for her response.
After a moment, Fox Demon put down the documents with a look of horror on her face. "In response to the master, I happened to have seen this person."
"Tell me more."
"Yes, last night I received a call asking me to go to a place for service. There were many people, so I brought a few sisters with me. We only intended to absorb some yang energy. Around eleven o'clock at night, I suddenly sensed a very strong and evil aura.
I will never forget that figure; he was terrifying... Everyone, including my sisters, was killed by him. If I hadn't noticed early and run away, I would have likely met the same fate."
Ye Mingshang observed her for a while and concluded that she did not seem to be lying. However, the information she provided was not particularly useful.
"You encountered such an event yesterday and today you continue to harm others?"
"In response to the master, the little fox has never harmed anyone. I only absorb a portion of their yang energy; given some time, those people can recover. Besides, I need to cultivate too; I want to become stronger so that I won't be bullied," Fox Demon said cautiously as she glanced at him.
Ye Mingshang snorted coldly. "Hmph! Don't try to play tricks on me. Whether or not you harm others is your business; it has nothing to do with me. I only ask if you have any way to find that demon's whereabouts or lure him out."
Upon hearing that they needed to find the demon, Fox Demon quickly waved her hands in panic. "No, Master! That demon is very powerful; if we provoke him, we will all die!"
"You just need to do as I say, and I guarantee your safety. Otherwise, do you believe I will kill you right now?" Ye Mingshang narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp enough to make Fox Demon shiver and fall silent.
After discussing a bit more, Ye Mingshang waved his hand for her to leave. "You can go for now; I'll find you if needed. Don't think about escaping; no matter where you go, I can find you."
"Yes..."
The Fox Demon has left, and Ye Mingshang sat on the bed, holding a stack of documents, deep in thought. "According to the footage from the surveillance cameras, this demon seems to have been transformed from a human. The person was carrying a knife that appears to be the same as the one used by the demon. Moreover, that person has also vanished."
Picking up a file on a young man, Ye Mingshang thought to himself, "Chen Jianjun... this child's family has all died as well, but judging by the method, it doesn't seem like it was killed by a demon."
"Could it be... the Big Knife Gang?" Ye Mingshang pondered as he looked over the documents, flipping through them in search of clues. Suddenly, his gaze fixed on a photograph.
"This is!"
In the photo was a wooden box about three feet long, appearing quite old and seemingly having some history. It was empty, but there seemed to have been something inside that was now gone. Looking at the box, Ye Mingshang thought to himself, "Given its size and style, it matches that knife quite well. Could this be the box that previously held the knife? What connection does this child have with that demon?"
As he contemplated this, Ye Mingshang picked up the phone and called Director Lu. "Hello! Director Lu."
"Ying Shang, it's so late and you're still awake. Is there something wrong?" came Director Lu's somewhat weary voice from the other end.
"Yes, did your police find a wooden box about three feet long at Chen Jianjun's house?"
"A wooden box? Hmm..." Director Lu frowned in thought. "I believe there is such a box. Do you need it for something?"
"Exactly. This might be a key piece of evidence in this case," Ye Mingshang replied.
Director Lu's eyes brightened. "Good. If I'm not mistaken, that box should be at the station. I'll have someone bring it over to you." (To be continued.)
