"Hand over the money!" Little Black Fatty stretched his hat forward, and the young man in front of him froze, his expression blank as if he had seen a ghost.
"Do you still recognize me?" Ye Mingshang asked with a gentle smile, his voice warm.
Thud! Little Black Fatty dropped to his knees, trembling uncontrollably, cold sweat streaming down his face. "Big Brother! I was wrong, I really didn't know you were on this vehicle!"
What?!
Everyone in the vehicle was stunned, whether they were students or teachers, all were left in shock. Even Little Black Fatty's subordinates were bewildered. What happened to their boss? Why was he kneeling before this kid? Who was he?
A series of questions filled everyone's minds, leaving them confused.
"I let you go back then because I thought you still had some humanity left and a chance to turn over a new leaf. I didn't expect to run into you here again; it seems you truly haven't changed," Ye Mingshang said. Although his tone was warm and friendly, like a neighborly greeting, Little Black Fatty felt a chill that made his heart skip a beat.
"N-no... it's not like that... I really didn't know you were on this vehicle... If I had known... I wouldn't dare to provoke you even if it meant death!" Little Black Fatty stammered.
Ye Mingshang smiled, narrowing his eyes slightly. "So you're saying that if I'm not on this vehicle, you can do whatever you want?"
"N-no! I wouldn't dare! Please let me go... I'm begging you!" Little Black Fatty hurriedly waved his hands, about to bow his head but was stopped by a foot that prevented him from touching the ground.
"Don't bow to me; go home and bow to your father."
"Yes... yes." Little Black Fatty quickly nodded in agreement.
"Let me ask you, why are you engaging in such activities again? Have you not learned your lesson?" Ye Mingshang inquired.
"I wouldn't dare! I wouldn't dare! If it weren't for being pushed to a dead end, I really wouldn't have dared to offend you!" Little Black Fatty quickly waved his hands.
"Oh? Is there something else going on?" Ye Mingshang squinted.
Little Black Fatty nodded, his expression turning somewhat sorrowful. "To be honest, I followed Shorty out of a moment of impulse. I initially thought we were robbing the rich to help the poor, but it turned out they were not good people at all. I actually wanted to leave them for a long time but didn't dare to. It wasn't until you defeated them that I managed to escape. At that time, I had already sworn to myself that I would no longer do bad things and would become a good person who does good deeds."
Little Black Fatty looked up, and Ye Mingshang remained silent, signaling him to continue. Little Black Fatty continued, "I thought it had been a long time since I visited my parents, so I took an overnight train back to Shandong, my hometown. But when I got there, there had been a flood, and my house was submerged. It took me quite some effort to find my original home, only to discover that our mud house had already been flooded. Later, I found someone I knew who told me that my parents had been rescued by others.
It took me several days, but I finally found my parents. However, my mother had suffered a heart attack and passed away without any medicine. Before I could arrange her funeral, my father fell ill from stress. I hurriedly took him to the hospital, only to find out he had liver cancer. Although there was a chance for a transplant, I didn't have the money. After following Shorty for so long, I had only saved a few thousand yuan, and it was almost all spent by then.
The surgery for my father would cost at least a hundred thousand yuan; how could I afford that? In my desperation, I resorted to this kind of business since it brings in money quickly. Who would have thought that just after doing it for the second time, I would run into you? If I had known you were in Nanjing, I wouldn't have dared to come here."
Little Black Fatty was nearly in tears; he had run so far just to avoid Ye Mingshang but still couldn't escape.
Ye Mingshang felt puzzled and asked, "Putting aside the truth of your words, your home is in Shandong, which is almost halfway across China from Nanjing. Why did you run so far?"
Little Black Fatty quickly replied, "It's because my cousin has some influence here; that's why I came to seek him out."
Ye Mingshang scoffed lightly. "Some influence? That kind of influence can't lend you money but instead drags you down?"
Little Black Fatty hurriedly waved his hands. "No, no! My cousin takes good care of me; he has already given me several thousand yuan to help with my mother's burial and paid for my father's hospital fees upfront. However, he is also involved in shady business and lives for the moment without saving much money."
Ye Mingshang nodded. "Regardless of anything else, this time I won't let you go."
Little Black Fatty's expression changed as fear gripped him. "Is he going to silence me?" He felt a chill thinking about what happened to those people a month ago.
Ye Mingshang interrupted his thoughts. "Don't think too much; what I mean is that I won't let you leave just like that. I'll hand you over to the police for processing your case, and I'll investigate your situation as well. If it's true, I can help pay for your father's medical expenses."
Little Black Fatty's spirit lifted. "Really?"
"Mm," Ye Mingshang nodded.
Little Black Fatty was overjoyed. Although he might face imprisonment due to the serious nature of his crime if caught, saving his father's life would be worth it. After all, even if he served two years, he would still have a chance to honor his father.
However, while he felt some happiness, his subordinates were not pleased. These were small-time thugs from South Sea North, some of whom had criminal records. They could handle fights and disturbances, but going to prison? That was out of the question.
“Fat Brother, what do you mean? Are you trying to get the Brothers to go to jail with you?” one subordinate who had previously been respectful immediately shouted.
“Exactly! We only helped you because of Brother Hai. Don’t think too highly of yourself!”
“Know your place! You want me to go to jail? Do you believe I won’t take you out right now?”
······
“You guys!…” Little Black Fatty was taken aback. He never expected that those Younger Brothers who had been calling him Fat Brother would openly defy him and speak so harshly. He hadn’t intended for these Brothers to go to jail with him; he planned to take it all on himself. But once again, he witnessed the coldness of human nature, which left him disheartened.
“What do you mean by ‘what’? What are you so proud of? If it weren’t for Brother Hai backing you up, you’d be nothing,” one subordinate cursed.
The fat man trembled with anger, on the verge of exploding when someone spoke up for him. “You guys are going too far! Fat Brother has taken care of us like this; can you really say this with a clear conscience?” one subordinate questioned.
“Hey?! Conscience? What’s that worth? Kid, shut your mouth, or I’ll deal with you too!”
