Yin Yang Demon Suppression
"Well, those villagers were just bowing their heads repeatedly, so I told them to get lost. The three young men in the same car were also shocked, but I've long gotten used to that kind of look. On the contrary, the girl seemed a bit surprised but not overly dramatic, as if she already knew I was impressive." After finishing his meal, Ye Mingshang was sipping tea while telling stories to the Grandfather and Granddaughter.
"What happened next? Did the girl offer herself to you?" Lin Qianqian teased.
Ye Mingshang rolled his eyes and replied, "Please, I was only one year old at that time; I hadn't even developed yet..."
"But there were still monsters, right?" Lin the Old Man interjected, eager to hear more about fighting monsters rather than people.
"Later, we took a car to the police station to report it. The girl also contacted her family through the police. They held a meeting and had those young men lead a team of Special Police there. At that time, I actually didn't know what connection they had with the monsters or that they practiced Evil Arts. Since I was just a kid and they didn't let me go, I didn't want to waste time there. The police wouldn't allow a child like me to run around freely; they were supposed to contact my parents. I couldn't stand that hassle and found an opportunity to leave."
"Since I couldn't check into a hotel by myself as a kid, although I had my ways, I didn't want to cause trouble. So I always looked for a quiet place to pitch a tent. Just when I had fallen asleep, I was woken up by those white-clad policemen. It turned out that when the Special Police entered the mountains, they caught those people using Evil Arts for a ritual, intending to sacrifice a child. This scene was witnessed by the Special Police; how could they let them get away with conducting such cult activities and using a living person as a sacrifice? Of course, they had to arrest them, but it was unclear whether those people were brave or foolish as they directly confronted the police."
"At first, those ordinary people with their sticks and shovels definitely couldn't compete with the armed Special Police and were quickly subdued. Later, their leader—the one who practiced Evil Arts—killed several Special Police before being shot down himself. Just when things seemed over, the monster that was in cahoots with them appeared. This monster had some skills; bullets didn't seem to affect it much. Knowing things were getting out of hand, the police weren't foolish and decisively retreated."
"Afterward, it seemed like their director took this matter very seriously and came looking for me after hearing about those people who could perform spells."
After talking for quite a while, Ye Mingshang felt thirsty and took a big gulp of tea. Just as he was about to pour more into his cup, he found it empty. Henry promptly replaced it with a new pot while listening intently to his story.
"So that director believed you?" Lin Qianqian asked curiously. Such matters usually lack credibility unless witnessed firsthand; even if there were witnesses, it would be more likely for them to think they were crazy. Moreover, the person they referred to was just an inexperienced child.
"It was half-belief and half-doubt; coincidentally, that director had encountered several supernatural events before and had sought help from others. However, he mainly doubted my age since I looked too young."
"How did they find Brother Ye? You weren't staying at a hotel; how did they track you down?"
"There were surveillance cameras; although not as widespread as now, there were still quite a few. I wasn't deliberately hiding either, so naturally, they found me through the surveillance footage."
"Oh~" Lin Qianqian playfully stuck out her tongue. "So did Brother Ye go help catch the monsters later?"
"Yeah, even though I didn't want to get involved. But since I encountered it, I had to take care of it; otherwise, who knows how many people they would harm? Anyway, it's better to act early than late, so I went with them that night to avoid them running away if I went too late. However, my worries were clearly unnecessary. I don't know if those Fellows were foolish, but when I arrived, they were celebrating. There was even a weasel at the main table holding a wine cup and drinking like a person."
"A weasel can drink?! Is it a monster?"
"Yeah, it should be the Guardian Spirit of their village. This used to be quite popular in rural areas. Generally, Guardian Spirits don't do harmful things because those who choose to be Guardian Spirits are usually good monsters. They typically don't show themselves or harm people; some even disguise themselves as ordinary animals and live with humans. It's really rare to find one that harms people like this."
"Is that Guardian Spirit powerful?" Lin Qianqian asked excitedly.
"Its strength was about average, neither strong nor weak. However, my own abilities weren't very profound at the time, and it took quite a bit of effort for me to take down that weasel. Without the monster's help, there wasn't much suspense left; the villagers had been captured, and we found over a dozen women and children from the village. What happened after that, I don't know; they didn't ask me."
"Those people must have been shocked when they saw Brother Ye was so amazing."
"It was okay; those police officers had much better mental fortitude than ordinary people. As for the villagers, when they saw me kill the Guardian Spirit, they all knelt down and bowed their heads. I couldn't understand what they were saying in their dialect."
At this point, the story was basically over, and since it was getting late, Ye Mingshang didn't plan to continue. Old Lin had a smile on his face, looking surprised and envious as if he wished he were the protagonist of the story himself. Henry seemed somewhat curious; he genuinely listened to the tale. Although he was just a butler, he was a graduate of a prestigious university and a staunch atheist.
Lin Qianqian smiled, her eyes slightly squinted; her beautiful eyes sparkled like crescent moons.
"Brother Ye is so amazing; you seem like a great hero. Having you around makes me feel so safe," Lin Qianqian said. Her words carried a hint of ambiguity and meaning; she admired Ye Mingshang greatly. After all, which girl hasn't fantasized about her future partner? Who wouldn't want someone extraordinary by their side for life? Lin Qianqian was also a girl in her prime youth and couldn't escape such thoughts.
Old Lin, being older and wise, could easily see his granddaughter's feelings. Just from how she spoke about Ye Mingshang in the past, he could guess her intentions. To be honest, he also hoped that the two could be together; he had his own selfish desires. If Ye Mingshang became his granddaughter's husband, wouldn't he be able to learn some of that mysterious ability?
Ye Mingshang wasn't foolish either; he could tell what Lin Qianqian meant. However, he avoided the topic and suggested they set off now to meet the spirits. It wasn't that he was aloof or immune to temptation like Confucius; rather, there was someone in his mind—a figure both unfamiliar and familiar—one he couldn't let go of no matter how many years passed.
They set off immediately since it would take time to reach their destination. After preparing briefly, they departed; however, this time Ye Mingshang didn't let Lin Qianqian drive because she drove too slowly. At that speed, they'd arrive in the middle of the night and wouldn't get back until morning!
It was already eight o'clock, and the sky had darkened significantly. After all, it was nearly November, and it got dark quite early.
Ye Mingshang's driving skills were impressive; he drove fast along the road, perfectly unleashing the power of the sports car. The deep roar of the engine seemed to be a thrilling release, as if he felt a sense of liberation.
Although he was driving quickly, he maintained stability. Whenever he encountered narrow roads or other vehicles, he would reduce his speed. He only accelerated in areas with better road conditions. Meanwhile, the expressions of the grandfather and granddaughter in the car were not too good; they seemed a bit carsick. Fortunately, Ye Mingshang drove steadily; otherwise, they might have felt nauseous.
Notably, there was a Mercedes-Benz on the road that kept blocking their way. Whenever Ye Mingshang slowed down, the other car did too; when he sped up, the other car matched his pace as if teasing him. After honking several times to no avail, he could have accelerated to overtake it, but seeing the pale faces of the grandfather and granddaughter made him abandon that plan. However, that didn't mean he was out of options.
Ye Mingshang casually took a piece of tissue from the car and folded it a few times until it became a Paper Man. He then placed the Paper Man on the dashboard and made a hand gesture while chanting: "Spirit spirit, unknown name, grant me Five Ghosts, come to my altar, those who follow me shall be blessed, those who oppose me shall face misfortune, assist me in my path, help me realize my truth, I command you to move swiftly; those who defy my orders shall be cut to dust."
As his words fell, the previously limp Paper Man slowly stood up and began to move back and forth as if stretching its body. This scene astonished the grandfather and granddaughter.
Ye Mingshang chuckled lightly as he looked at the Paper Man and then tilted his head toward the Mercedes-Benz ahead: "Help me deal with those fellows in that car; come find me for Joss Paper later."
Upon hearing the command, the paper figure actually bent slightly and made squeaking sounds—quite adorable. Then the Paper Man floated up and swiftly chased after the Mercedes-Benz. Strangely enough, despite being made of paper, it wasn't blown away by the wind and managed to catch up with the speeding car.
The Paper Man was surprisingly fast; within seconds it caught up to the Mercedes-Benz and tilted its body to fly through the passenger window. Soon after, the Mercedes-Benz swerved awkwardly to one side while Ye Mingshang lightly pressed on the accelerator to overtake it. As he passed by, he noticed that the driver inside was a non-mainstream young man with green hair—likely a spoiled rich kid.
At that moment, he saw several people inside the car looking terrified at the Paper Man on their dashboard. From Ye Mingshang's perspective, it was clear that he had used some tricks. Seeing their frightened expressions made him smile.
