On her birthday, Li Xiaolu enjoyed a lazy sleep-in since it was the weekend and she had two days off. When she finally picked up her phone, she was surprised to see that it was almost noon. It had been a long time since she had slept in this late. Perhaps it was because she had trouble sleeping last night after returning home. Her mind kept replaying Jijun's words, and she found herself getting more and more lost in thought until she finally managed to fall asleep around dawn.
As she looked at her phone screen, she noticed an unread WeChat message from Jijun. "Good morning," it read, timestamped from midnight the previous night. Li Xiaolu recalled their conversation by Victoria Harbour, where Jijun had expressed his feelings. In the end, she agreed to give him another chance to pursue her because she wanted to give both herself and Jijun an opportunity.
She had told Jijun, "I can give you a chance, but I'm not sure if I will fall in love with you." Upon hearing this, Jijun's face lit up with surprise as he replied, "As long as you're willing to give me a chance, I will be very satisfied." After that, they exchanged goodnights and went their separate ways.
After getting out of bed, Li Xiaolu freshened up and changed her clothes. Just as she was about to head out for some food, she received a WeChat message from Zhang Lin. "Are you free today? Let's hang out!"
Li Xiaolu smiled and replied, "Sure, where should I find you?" She wanted to share her feelings with Zhang Lin as well. Zhang Lin quickly responded, "Let's meet at our usual spot."
...
Li Xiaolu arrived at the café in Central District where she had arranged to meet Zhang Lin. As soon as she walked in, Zhang Lin noticed her cheerful demeanor. With a smile, Zhang Lin said, "Wow, you look like something good has happened!"
Li Xiaolu chuckled and replied, "I guess you could say that."
Curious, Zhang Lin urged her, "Come on, tell me what’s going on!"
Li Xiaolu then recounted her conversation with Jijun by Victoria Harbour the night before.
Zhang Lin listened in silence for a moment before asking her, "So what do you think?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "I want to give myself, and Jijun, another chance."
Zhang Lin smiled, "That's good too."
She held Li Xiaolu's hand and said softly, "Lulu, feelings are like drinking water; you know whether it's cold or warm. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters."
Li Xiaolu looked at her, feeling a warmth rise in her heart.
She nodded gently, "I understand."
Zhang Lin smiled and said, "That's great."
After taking a sip of coffee, she suddenly remembered something. "By the way, do you remember Zhou Xi?"
Li Xiaolu nodded, "I remember."
Zhang Lin sighed, "He got injured."
Li Xiaolu was taken aback. "Injured? How did that happen?"
Zhang Lin explained, "The last time we went out, he tried to save a drowning child and ended up getting hurt by a rock in the water."
Li Xiaolu exclaimed in surprise, "That's serious?"
Zhang Lin nodded, "Yes, he lost a lot of blood. Luckily, I got him to the hospital in time."
Li Xiaolu frowned. "So how is he now?"
Zhang Lin said, "He's fine now; the wound has healed, but he still can't get it wet."
Li Xiaolu asked, "How long does he need to rest?"
Zhang Lin sighed again. "I don't know; at least six months."
Hearing this, Li Xiaolu felt a bit heavy-hearted.
Zhang Lin comforted her, "Don't worry too much; the doctor said his recovery looks good."
Li Xiaolu nodded. "That's good to hear."
Zhang Lin looked at her. "But..."
Li Xiaolu asked, "But what?"
Zhang Lin pressed her lips together and said softly, "But I'm worried about how the change of seasons will affect him."
Li Xiaolu was stunned.
Zhang Lin continued, "You know he used to love summer."
After a moment of silence, Li Xiaolu reassured her, "Don't worry; he'll be okay."
Zhang Lin nodded gently. "Mm."
That evening, Li Xiaolu and Zhang Lin had dinner together before heading to a bar. Zhang Lin was in a bad mood and ended up drinking quite a bit.
Li Xiaolu didn't dare to drink much because she had to take care of Zhang Lin. They were sitting in a booth, watching the men and women dancing in the dance floor. Zhang Lin was drunk and kept talking while holding Li Xiaolu's hand. Li Xiaolu could only patiently comfort her.
At that moment, Li Xiaolu suddenly received a message from Jijun. "I'm outside, are you free to come out?"
Li Xiaolu was taken aback. She looked up and glanced towards the entrance of the bar. Sure enough, she saw Jijun standing there, gazing at her with deep eyes.
Li Xiaolu hesitated for a few seconds before replying, "Wait a moment, I'll be out soon." She patted Zhang Lin's shoulder and said, "I’ll step out for a bit." Zhang Lin mumbled a response.
Li Xiaolu got up and walked to the entrance of the bar where Jijun was waiting for her.
She looked at him and asked, "What brought you here?"
Jijun replied, "I saw you nearby."
Li Xiaolu smiled and said, "Oh really?"
Jijun nodded.
Li Xiaolu continued, "Then wait for me a moment, I need to grab my bag."
"Okay," Jijun said.
Li Xiaolu turned around and went back inside the bar to get her bag. Zhang Lin was still drinking, and Li Xiaolu tapped her shoulder again, saying, "I'm leaving now, make sure to head back early."
Zhang Lin looked up at her and replied, "Oh."
