She didn't want to waste too much time. However, there was a long line of cars ahead, and she didn't know how long it would take before they could move freely. She opened WeChat and sent a message to Zhang Lin. "Dear, I think I'll be home a bit late." Zhang Lin quickly replied, "What happened? Stuck in traffic?" Li Xiaolu said, "Yeah." Zhang Lin responded, "Then just wait patiently." Li Xiaolu: "..." She turned off her phone and sighed softly.
She looked up at Jijun. Jijun was leaning back in his seat, resting with his eyes closed. His profile was handsome, with a high nose and thin lips pressed together. Li Xiaolu found herself a bit mesmerized. She remembered the first time they met; she was also attracted by his beautiful appearance. Back then, she couldn't have imagined that she would end up with someone like him. But now, she no longer had such expectations.
Li Xiaolu lowered her head and looked at her hands. Her hands were fair, long, and slender. There were a few faint scars on the back of her hands, remnants from when she had injured herself in the past. Those scars were very light; one wouldn't notice them unless they looked closely. But Li Xiaolu remembered that these were the injuries she had sustained while trying to save Jijun.
She gently traced the scars with her fingers, feeling a mix of emotions inside her. She raised her head and looked out the window. The rain outside was pouring even harder now. Suddenly, she realized that a familiar tune was playing in Jijun's car. She had heard it many times before and could even recite the lyrics. Her mood suddenly became calm.
As she gazed out the window, she thought about how the world changes every day, yet some things remain constant. Like this song, like Jijun's habits. Unable to resist, she turned to glance at Jijun. He still had his eyes closed, as if he were asleep.
Li Xiaolu secretly watched him. His eyelashes were long, like two brushes. She remembered their first kiss, how he made her feel weak all over, collapsing into his arms. She recalled that night when they stayed awake, doing it over and over again. She remembered him saying, "Lulu, I love you." Her heart suddenly ached sharply. She quickly turned her head, closed her eyes, and tried to calm her emotions. She couldn't think about it anymore. She couldn't think about it anymore.
Twenty minutes later, the car finally drove into Harbor City. Li Xiaolu said to Jijun, "Just drop me off by the roadside." Jijun turned to look at her. Li Xiaolu explained, "I have a date with a friend; I'm not going to SS.AI anymore." Jijun didn't say anything and simply parked the car by the side of the road. Li Xiaolu said, "Thank you." She opened the car door and got out.
Zhang Lin was already waiting for her at a café in Harbor City. Once she entered, Zhang Lin hurriedly asked, "Is it still raining outside?" Li Xiaolu nodded. Zhang Lin frowned, "Why am I so unlucky? I didn't bring an umbrella when I went out, and then it started raining halfway, making my clothes all wet." Li Xiaolu glanced at Zhang Lin's clothes. Sure enough, her jacket and pant hems were a bit damp. Li Xiaolu leaned her black long-handled umbrella against the coffee table. Zhang Lin took a look and exclaimed, "Hey, your umbrella..."
Li Xiaolu followed her gaze downwards. Zhang Lin stared at the bottom of the umbrella handle, "This design... Rolls-Royce?" Li Xiaolu was taken aback, "Really?" She picked it up to take a look. It really was. Zhang Lin looked surprised, "Wow, Li Xiaolu, your salary must have increased quite a bit if you're using a Rolls-Royce umbrella now." Li Xiaolu was speechless.
Zhang Lin asked again, "By the way, where did you get that umbrella?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "Someone gave it to me."
Zhang Lin raised an eyebrow, "Who?"
Li Xiaolu said, "Jijun."
Zhang Lin: "..."
Li Xiaolu then told Zhang Lin about her encounter with Jijun.
After listening, Zhang Lin looked surprised and said, "Are you sure he just happened to pass by?"
Li Xiaolu nodded, "Yeah."
Zhang Lin sighed, "That's quite a coincidence."
Li Xiaolu agreed, "It is."
Zhang Lin looked at her and asked, "So what are you planning to do now?"
Li Xiaolu shook her head, "I don't know."
Zhang Lin said, "Didn't you ask him how he ended up working here?"
Li Xiaolu replied, "I didn't want to ask."
Zhang Lin sighed again, "Alright."
Li Xiaolu suggested, "Let's not talk about him anymore."
Zhang Lin said, "Okay, then tell me what you gained from your visit to SS.AI today."
Li Xiaolu detailed her experiences at SS.AI to Zhang Lin.
After listening, Zhang Lin pondered for a moment and said, "From your description, this company seems to have quite a bit of potential."
Li Xiaolu nodded, "Yeah."
Zhang Lin asked, "Are you planning to invest?"
Li Xiaolu thought for a moment and replied, "I'll wait and see."
