"Soul, Return, with my blood, reshape your soul..." I whispered the final incantation, my blood merging into the runes, and the air in the shrine seemed to freeze.
Suddenly, a dazzling light burst from my fingertips, instantly enveloping Du Ming's body. I felt a wave of dizziness as my spiritual energy surged toward Du Ming like a flood breaking through a dam. His previously lifeless face twisted in agony, his body shaking violently as if he were experiencing indescribable pain.
"Du!" I couldn't help but exclaim, wanting to step forward to check on him, but Bai Wei pulled me back. "Lingxi, calm down! The ritual cannot be interrupted once it has begun!"
I could only watch helplessly, my heart feeling as if it were gripped by an invisible hand. Time passed slowly; the light surrounding Du Ming grew brighter, and the temperature in the shrine rose sharply.
"This won't do; at this rate, Lingxi won't be able to hold on!" Bai Wei shouted anxiously. Mr. Du furrowed his brow tightly, worry etched across his face.
Just when I felt I could no longer endure, the light suddenly began to retract, eventually coalescing into a glowing orb that slowly merged into Du Ming's forehead. His trembling gradually subsided, and his breathing became steady and strong.
"Du, how are you?" I rushed to his bedside and grasped his warm hand.
Du Ming slowly opened his eyes, which sparkled with radiant light. He looked at me and smiled gently. "I'm fine; I'm sorry to worry you."
He pulled me tightly into his embrace with such force that it felt as if he wanted to meld me into his very being. "Lingxi, thank you for not giving up on me..." His voice was choked with emotion, and I could feel the vibrations of his chest and the preciousness of what he had regained.
"Fool, we are husband and wife; how could I ever give up on you?" I gently stroked his back, tears welling in my eyes.
We held each other tightly as if trying to merge our lives together. In that moment, I truly felt his burning love for me and became even more resolute in my determination to spend my life with him.
At that moment, the door of the shrine creaked open, and an elderly figure slowly walked in. His hair and beard were completely white, and he wore a gray robe that exuded an extraordinary aura as if he were one with this world.
"Who might you be?" I wondered internally as I instinctively stood up.
"I have traveled here and sensed unusual fluctuations in spiritual energy; thus, I came to investigate," the old man said with a slight smile as his gaze swept over us. "It seems I arrived just in time."
"Senior, are you saying..." Du Ming's eyes flashed with insight as if he had guessed something.
The old man nodded, his tone becoming serious. "The resurrection of the Demon God is no coincidence; there is a greater conspiracy behind it. You must be extremely cautious and never let your guard down."
His words struck us like thunderclaps in our ears, causing my heart to sink. Could it be that this calamity was just beginning?
"Senior, do you know who is behind all this?" Du Ming asked urgently, a barely perceptible tremor in his voice. I understood he was worried about me. I grasped his hand tightly to give him strength—and myself too. The old man shook his head and sighed deeply. "This matter is long-winded; I only know a little. A thousand years ago, the Demon God wreaked havoc on the world before being sealed by the Cultivation World. However, its remnants have been lurking in the shadows waiting for an opportunity to strike. It seems someone is secretly aiding the Demon God in regaining power with the intent of unleashing chaos once more."
"What should we do now?" I pressed on anxiously. Were we really going to watch helplessly as the Demon God returned and dragged our hard-won peaceful world back into darkness?
"In order to completely eliminate the Demon God, you must find the legendary artifact—the Heavenly Mechanism Mirror." The old man paused for a moment before gazing deeply into the distance. "The Heavenly Mechanism Mirror possesses the power to purify all evil; only it can completely eradicate the remnants of the Demon God and prevent future calamities."
"The Heavenly Mechanism Mirror? Isn't that said to be..." Du Ming seemed to recall something as his expression shifted slightly.
At that moment, Mr. Du—who had been silent until now—suddenly spoke up: "Ming'er, Lingxi, I know what you're worried about. The whereabouts of the Heavenly Mechanism Mirror has always been a secret guarded by our family." His tone was heavy as if bearing an immense burden. "I will take you there, but this path is fraught with danger; you must be prepared mentally."
I took a deep breath and nodded firmly: "To protect this world and those we love, no matter how many difficulties lie ahead, we will not back down!"
Mr. Du nodded with relief and led us to the study. Behind a landscape painting, there was surprisingly a hidden stone door. He gently turned the mechanism, and the stone door slowly opened, revealing a deep, bottomless passage.
"The Heavenly Mechanism Mirror is at the end of this passage, but it is filled with traps and dangers," Mr. Du warned gravely. "You must be extremely careful and act within your limits."
I tightly held Du Ming's hand, feeling the warmth of his palm, which filled me with strength. I knew that this path would not be smooth, but I believed that as long as we walked together, we could overcome any difficulties and find the Heavenly Mechanism Mirror to save this world!
We stepped into the unknown passage, and the stone door behind us slowly closed, shutting out the light. In the darkness, I seemed to hear whispers from ancient times, filled with mystery and the unknown. I held Du Ming's hand tightly and silently prayed that we would return safely.
