Emerging from the cave, the blinding sunlight made both me and Du Ming instinctively squint our eyes. After a brief moment of adjustment, the sight before us caused both of us to gasp in shock. The once ethereal town in the distance was now shrouded in a strange black mist, with a flag representing a mysterious force prominently displayed at the city gate.
"How could this happen? It's only been a few days..." I murmured, a deep sense of unease swelling within me.
Du Ming's expression was grave as he pulled me behind him and whispered, "It seems we underestimated the strength of the mysterious force. The current situation is very unfavorable for us."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. The resurrection ritual of the Demon God was about to take place, and we had to stop them as soon as possible!
"We should split up," Du Ming's voice pulled me back from my thoughts. "I'll investigate the headquarters of the mysterious force, and you should look for any records about the Demon God; there might be a breakthrough."
I nodded, but my heart was filled with worry. Du Ming's mission was undoubtedly dangerous, but I understood that now was not the time for hesitation. We had to find a way to prevent the resurrection of the Demon God quickly; otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable.
I hurried to the largest ancient library in Cultivation World—the Scripture Repository. It housed all significant texts from Cultivation World since ancient times, and I hoped to find records about the Demon God there.
The Scripture Repository was silent, with only the rustling of pages echoing in the vast hall. I suppressed my inner anxiety and flipped through ancient texts one after another, hoping to find a clue.
Time passed slowly, and my hopes faded with each tick of the clock. Just when I was about to despair, an ancient parchment caught my attention.
The scroll bore only a few simple words: The Grief of the Demon God. My heart raced as I trembled and slowly opened the scroll.
The scroll contained an ancient legend stating that the Demon God was not invincible; he had a fatal weakness—Nine Nether Cold Jade Grass. This herb grew in Extreme Cold Land and possessed immense icy power capable of freezing all evil forces.
I was overjoyed and quickly committed the contents of the scroll to memory. However, my joy was soon extinguished by another line: "Nine Nether Cold Jade Grass blooms once every thousand years and bears fruit once every ten thousand years; it is hard to come by..."
Blooming once every thousand years and bearing fruit once every ten thousand years? Did that mean... I suddenly felt weak; could this truly be fate?
Closing the ancient text, I anxiously rushed to our agreed meeting point, constantly praying for Du Ming's safety. From afar, I spotted a familiar figure pacing anxiously—it was Du Ming! I hurried over, but before I could ask anything, Du Ming grabbed my hand with a serious expression.
"Lingxi, I've found their headquarters, but unfortunately, I was discovered," Du Ming said urgently. "Their force is larger than we imagined, and..." He paused as if choosing his words carefully. "They seem to have realized we are investigating them; we must be even more cautious now."
Taking a deep breath, I shared with Du Ming what I had found regarding the Demon God's weakness from the ancient text. "Nine Nether Cold Jade Grass..." Du Ming repeated softly, his brow furrowed. "Extreme Cold Land... It seems we must set off quickly."
We quickly gathered our things and immediately departed for Extreme Cold Land. Throughout our journey, we tacitly avoided discussing the mysterious force again; yet we both understood that a greater storm was about to arrive.
Extreme Cold Land was even more desolate than we had imagined; all around us were endless glaciers and howling cold winds. The biting cold wind felt like knives cutting into me; even with my spiritual energy protecting me, I felt waves of chill wash over me.
"Ah!" I exclaimed as my foot slipped, sending me uncontrollably sliding downwards. In a critical moment, Du Ming reacted swiftly and grabbed my hand, but due to inertia, he too began sliding down with me.
"Hold on to me!" Du Ming shouted as he tightly grasped a protruding ice block with his other hand. I struggled to steady myself and reached out for Du Ming, but just then, the ice beneath my feet suddenly cracked...
