Qiu Wuling has finally found her true self in love, even if it was two hundred years late, it is still a source of comfort.
A Dapeng soared across the night sky, circling a few times in the starless expanse before accurately locating Qiu Wuling's position and gracefully landing beside her.
This is the spirit beast of the New Moon Sect. Among the Six Sects, only the New Moon Sect has raised flying spirit beasts at Wan Jian Sect, while Wuhua Island raises sea beasts, and the other Three Factions have not been seen with any large spirit beasts.
Qiu Wuling stroked the head of Dapeng. "It's still several thousand miles to Beast Wasteland. Let me escort you."
"Thank you very much, senior," replied Xu Feng. His hybrid horse had been split in half by Wang Zhen, making it quite difficult to return to Beast Wasteland on foot. He had planned to buy a good horse in Beast City for the journey, but now with Qiu Wuling's Dapeng, it would be much more convenient. After all, Wan Jian Sect is located in Fujin, and having such a powerful escort as Qiu Wuling made it all the safer.
The two climbed onto Dapeng and flew towards Beast Wasteland.
On the back of the Dapeng, Qiu Wuling did not inquire about the matters of the Otherworldly Secret Realm, seemingly uninterested in the rumored treasures of the third layer. "That Square Leaf Grass was originally meant for saving lives, but I can't use it at the moment. I've already handed it over to the Alchemy Hall to plant in their medicinal garden. As long as they can produce it in bulk, Wuhua Island will no longer be a concern."
Xu Feng speculated that the New Moon Sect would surely do the same. Over these years, they had sent Cai Shujun to search for Square Leaf Grass, aiming to cultivate a large quantity. However, since Wuhua Island understood the importance of Square Leaf Grass, they would never allow fresh specimens to reach the market. When Jin Liaoyuan obtained one, it led to the downfall of the Top Ten Bandits.
"Senior, just now, Cai Daoyou advanced to Golden Core. Congratulations! I don't have any gifts for you, so let me give you two seeds of Square Leaf Grass," said Xu Feng, taking out two seeds cultivated in Blue and White Porcelain.
"You have seeds of Square Leaf Grass?" Qiu Wuling was greatly surprised. This was something highly sought after. A mature plant might not succeed in cultivation even after a long time, but having two intact seeds significantly increased the chances of survival.
"My master cultivated them during his lifetime but only managed to produce one plant before he could no longer continue. These two seeds were what I later dug up from the ground," lied Xu Feng.
Upon hearing this, Qiu Wuling accepted the seeds with gratitude and guilt towards Jin Liaoyuan. In her eyes, Xu Feng felt closer than before. With these two seeds, cultivating more Square Leaf Grass was just around the corner. Once there were enough seeds, the "One Hundred Years of Solitude" from Wuhua Island would become as common as rat poison.
Seeing that Qiu Wuling had emerged from her emotional turmoil brought joy to Xu Feng. He reflected on how Wuhua Island had been scheming against various factions, leading to this tragedy; such longstanding sources of conflict and competition were hard to eliminate.
"Senior, is there something I should or shouldn't mention?" asked Xu Feng, testing like a scene from a television show.
"What else is there that shouldn't be mentioned? By now, I owe you a favor," replied Qiu Wuling. This trip had resolved a hundred-year-old knot in her heart and brought her the gift of Square Leaf Grass. She had already gained quite a lot.
"I killed Guo Xiangqian." Xu Feng glanced at Qiu Wuling's expression and, seeing that she did not seem angry, continued, "Guo Xiangqian was a pawn of Wuhua Island, and all the movements of the New Moon Sect were relayed to Wuhua Island through him." Xu Feng recounted how Guo Xiangqian and Gong Duan had tracked and ambushed Mist City.
Qiu Wuling remained unfazed and said, "I know about Guo Xiangqian and the Second Elder. The information he carried was under control. I didn't kill him just to play along with the plan; since you have killed him, let it be."
It turned out that Qiu Wuling was already aware of the Second Elder's plot to seize power. Although Chu Wushang was constrained in real power, they were certainly aligned on this matter. No wonder Guo Xiangqian's death did not stir any reaction from the New Moon Sect.
"Wuhua Island has made too many enemies. If it weren't for their fear of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude,' Wuhua Island would have been besieged long ago. However, Wuhua Island has stood for a thousand years, and it is not solely reliant on 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' for its facade. Destroying Wuhua Island is not something that can be accomplished overnight." Qiu Wuling gazed into the distance, lost in thought.
Xu Feng did not contemplate how to deal with Wuhua Island. Not only did Wuhua Island have Hua Wanduo, a master of exceptional skill, but even that group of judges was a considerable force.
Since ancient times, what has been divided will eventually unite, and what has united will eventually divide. Wuhua Island has not made itself hated; even if it were destroyed, another Liuxiang overlord would emerge, leading to another round of bloodshed.
From Beast City to Beast Reject City and then into Beast Wasteland, it was only two or three thousand miles altogether. Dapeng soared high without encountering any obstacles and reached the outskirts of Beast Wasteland in less than two hours.
Dapeng flew several dozen miles more before landing in a place where Xu Feng had trained years ago. Dapeng clearly was not unfamiliar with this area and knew the paths around the outskirts well.
After dismounting, Qiu Wuling said, "I don't know your exact destination, nor is it convenient for me to know. Everyone has their own secrets; I won't see you off. Your master has remained anonymous for a hundred years, afraid to reveal his true identity. I hope you can walk proudly in the future. You are cultivating both Fire and Earth; establishing your own sect may not be impossible."
Qiu Wuling still held some reservations about Jin Liaoyuan's notorious reputation. Xu Feng replied, "I understand."
Qiu Wuling continued, "In the battle at the Otherworldly Secret Realm, you were indeed the strongest among those below Golden Core level today. Now that Cai Shujun has broken through, you are no longer her match. Although you are strong now, the path of Xian Dao also relies on fate. Hua Du from Wuhua Island is also an extraordinary talent; he may surpass you in the future."
Xu Feng realized that Qiu Wuling had some expectations of him due to Jin Liaoyuan and respectfully replied, "I have learned much."
"Cai Shujun has just advanced; I need to return to help her consolidate her cultivation. Take care of yourself." As she leaped onto Dapeng, Qiu Wuling added, "If you wish to meet Cai Shujun, you must possess overwhelming strength; otherwise, there is no point in discussing it."
"Ah, I didn't intend to meet Cai..." Dapeng soared high into the sky as Qiu Wuling had already gone far away.
Xu Feng felt anxious as if he were a caught thief. What was Qiu Wuling thinking? How could she assume he wanted to meet Cai Shujun? How did she know? Sigh... how did she know?
Cai Shujun was unparalleled in beauty. If Xu Feng had no thoughts about her, it would surely be a lie; if he had many thoughts, then... it was true.
A few third-level beasts jumped out, glanced at Xu Feng, and fled as if they were flying. Just then, Xu Feng spread his Wings of the Strange Dragon and flew deeper into the forest.
Beneath the trees, various beasts with lantern-like eyes roamed back and forth, searching for their prey, quickly retreating from Xu Feng's sight and becoming a fading landscape.
After flying for a while and covering over two hundred miles, the level of the beasts beneath the trees increased. Fourth-level beasts were everywhere, and occasionally the roar of a Fifth-Grade Monster could be heard.
Xu Feng set up a simple Wooden Rack in the trees, lay down on it, and fell asleep.
He slept soundly. After days of being hunted by various factions, he had been under immense stress. Now back in the Beast Wasteland, he felt a sense of returning home. In this primitive jungle, with his Wings of the Strange Dragon, he could come and go like the wind; even cultivators at the Early Stage of Golden Core would find it hard to catch him.
It wasn't until the sun rose that sunlight filtered through the leaves and warmed his back that Xu Feng lazily opened his eyes. The morning in the Beast Wasteland was exceptionally beautiful; wisps of morning mist rose gently, with a few Red-Crowned Cranes gliding through it. The treetops of the undulating green mountains echoed with pleasant birdsong.
Xu Feng stretched his body and continued to fly deeper into the forest. This time he flew slowly, as if a general inspecting his soldiers or a fruit farmer surveying his orchard.
This area was far beyond where Xu Feng had trained in his earlier years. Disciples at the Refining Qi stage would only become fertilizer for this beautiful garden.
Xu Feng easily found several powerful fruits that were rarely seen in the Fairy Market. He picked one and ate it; its sweet and sour flavor was delightful, so he indulged in a few more...
After playfully flying for over ten miles, Xu Feng stopped and frowned slightly.
On a large tree appeared an oversized bird's nest; this was the nest of a Fourth-Level Beast, the Gray Pigeon. The nest had been recently disturbed, with two broken Gray Pigeon eggs thrown beneath the tree. It was clear that this nest had been taken over by someone rather than a beast.
Not far beneath the tree, Xu Feng spotted the corpse of the nest's original owner—the Gray Pigeon lay slumped in a patch of weeds, its feathers disheveled. Five thin wounds pierced through its chest to its back. A swarm of large flies buzzed around it.
"Could it be him?" Xu Feng quickly thought of someone.
Following the direction where the Gray Pigeon had fallen, he indeed noticed a path that had been trampled down. The grass and plants on either side were still bent over, indicating that this person had not been here long.
"That looks serious." Xu Feng thought as he looked at the heavy footprints on the ground.
Xu Feng followed the path, which became increasingly clear, and the distance between them narrowed. He did not use the Wings of the Strange Dragon, instead making his way through the dense forest on foot.
Ahead, he spotted another makeshift shelter in the trees, hastily constructed with a few branches, but it was quite rudimentary. It was only about ten miles from the previous Gray Pigeon nest, and this person was already exhausted, needing to stop and rest again.
After advancing a bit further, he discovered another resting place, this time even closer—less than seven miles apart. It seemed that this person's injuries were worsening; they would likely encounter the next shelter soon.
Xu Feng drew his Superior Spirit Sword and continued forward, ready to summon the Wings of the Strange Dragon at any moment. If anything felt off, he would flee. Any cultivator daring to enter this area was no pushover, as the beasts here rarely fed on plants; most were carnivorous. If you were a vegetarian, they would feast on your flesh.
As he got closer, the traces on the path became heavier. Xu Feng tightened his grip on the spirit sword and slowed his pace. He could almost hear the sound of branches snapping underfoot.
Suddenly, a furious roar echoed from nearby: "Get lost, you beast! If you don't want to die, get out of my way!" Mixed in were the howls of demonic beasts.
Xu Feng's heart brightened; it was indeed him!
