Just a few steps away, a talisman seller called out to him, "Friend, I have some talismans here that would be very useful for you. Come take a look." The vendor had set up a stall and was gesturing towards Xu Feng.
Xu Feng approached the stall and saw it was filled with various Martial Talismans, each bundled with ropes and labeled according to their type.
The vendor's strength was not weak, around the level of Refining Qi Second Layer. In fact, there were no cultivators with lower cultivation than Xu Feng in this area; anyone weaker would be considered a mortal.
Xu Feng browsed through the talismans on display and had already formed an idea in his mind.
"What is the strongest offensive Martial Talisman?" Xu Feng asked.
The vendor pulled out a talisman from the upper right corner of the stall, pride evident on his face as he said, "This is the Golden Qi Talisman. When activated during battle, it can severely injure anyone below Refining Qi Fifth Layer." He glanced at Xu Feng and added playfully, "Friend, I've been in your shoes before. With this talisman at the Qi Refinement First Layer, as long as you don't provoke someone too powerful, you can generally escape unscathed."
"How much is it?" Xu Feng already had one of these Golden Qi Talismans in his bag, left to him by the wealthy Li Si.
Seeing Xu Feng's interest, the vendor replied, "Ten Low-Grade Spirit Stones. You won't find a better price on this street."
"Is an offensive talisman really that expensive?" Xu Feng showed a pained expression.
"It's not expensive at all. Selling you this level of offensive talisman for ten spirit stones is quite cheap. If it weren't for our good rapport, I would have charged you fifteen." Noticing that Xu Feng seemed unmoved, he continued, "This is an offensive talisman; it's not as cheap as a fleeing talisman."
"Then let me see a fleeing talisman." This was exactly what Xu Feng was waiting for; he was low on funds and couldn't afford to spend recklessly.
The vendor quickly realized his mistake and cursed himself for being foolish but couldn't refuse. He took out a fleeing talisman and said, "Five spirit stones." Although this talisman was meant for escape, it couldn't be called an escape talisman outright. Xu Feng took it and saw that it was labeled: Swift Movement Talisman.
Xu Feng paid the spirit stones and stored the Swift Movement Talisman in his storage bag. He also had a Flying Escape Talisman in his bag; although the names were different, their functions were the same. For such life-saving items, having more was always better.
After bidding farewell to the vendor, Xu Feng dared not buy anything else. He continued inward and after about ten minutes of walking, just as he neared the end of his journey, he finally spotted a weapons shop beneath a tree.
The shop was small, about ten square meters in size, which made it quite upscale in this market dominated by stalls. Inside the shop were two customers selecting swords and knives. As Xu Feng observed the weapons in the shop, he also kept an eye on the movements of the two customers.
The shop had slots installed on both walls, with all the weapons displayed on them, primarily swords and knives, but there were no polearms. It seemed that cultivators had a particular fondness for swords.
The Fat Boss was busy introducing his products to two customers. Xu Feng picked up a heavy sword to examine it closely. This heavy sword was essentially just a wider and heavier version of a regular sword; the one Xu Feng held was two fingers wider than usual, giving it a somewhat blunt appearance.
Before long, the Fat Boss made a sale, selling two swords. In good spirits, he noticed Xu Feng examining the large sword and said, "Friend, you have a good eye! I only made two of these heavy swords, and one was sold yesterday. If you come back later, you might not find it."
Xu Feng chuckled mischievously and replied, "I’m not buying it."
The Fat Boss laughed awkwardly and suddenly whispered, "Got something to sell?"
Xu Feng was startled; how could this shrewd merchant tell? Did he really look like the kind of person who would engage in speculation?
Xu Feng flipped his left wrist and took out Li Si's long sword, placing it over the heavy sword to cover it completely. "I'll trade this long sword for the heavy sword."
The Fat Boss glanced at the sword and made a quick decision. "Add thirty Low-Grade Spirit Stones."
"Deal." Xu Feng didn't hesitate and quickly agreed. Keeping that sword on him was always a nuisance; if he hadn't wanted to exchange it for some spirit stones, he would have tossed it away long ago.
The Fat Boss discreetly put the long sword into his storage bag. He knew it was Black Market Goods, but he loved dealing in such items—high profit with no need for negotiation.
With the heavy sword now in hand, Xu Feng finally had his first visible magical item. He calculated that he still had about fifty or sixty Low-Grade Spirit Stones left, enough to buy some miscellaneous items.
After leaving the weapon shop and seeing that it was still early, Xu Feng strolled along the street. The Mountain Valley wasn't large; there were only about two or three hundred stalls in total. Before long, he reached the end of the street.
During his exploration, Xu Feng bought a set of light blue coarse cloth robes and a storage bag about two cubic meters in size for thirty spirit stones. To his disappointment, after exploring the entire Mountain Valley, he didn’t find another weapon shop. There was no choice but to return to that fat merchant.
After wandering for over an hour and noticing that fewer people were around in Mountain Valley, it was almost time to meet up with Xu Feng and the others. He then walked back into the Fat Boss's weapon shop, where there were no other customers at that moment.
“Boss, I want to return this,” Xu Feng called out.
The chubby man clearly wasn’t intimidated, grinning widely as he said, “You’re being too harsh, my friend. What are you returning? I can just exchange it for you.” However, after about one and a half seconds, his expression shifted to that of a typical unscrupulous merchant. “So, do you have more goods?”
“I need a bow,” Xu Feng said quietly, “and 50 arrows.”
The chubby man hesitated for a moment before replying, “We don’t have this type of weapon in stock, but we’ve made them before. If you need it urgently, it will take at least three days.” The chubby man was merely a dealer; the real production was handled by the team behind him.
“I’ll wait for you,” Xu Feng replied simply and directly. That crude bow was outdated and needed to be replaced.
“Alright, it’s settled then. Come back here in three days.”
“How much?” Xu Feng asked, genuinely lacking confidence as he currently only had two Mid-Grade Spirit Stones.
“Pay 100 Low-Grade Spirit Stones upfront, and then another 100 upon delivery,” the chubby man said.
“Okay.” Xu Feng tossed over one Mid-Grade Spirit Stone. Once he received the bow, he would be broke.
The chubby man took the spirit stone with a grin that stretched from ear to ear. This was a Mid-Grade Spirit Stone; although its market value was 1:100, very few people were willing to trade a Mid-Grade Spirit Stone for goods. It seemed this poor fellow was actually quite wealthy.
After they reached an agreement, Xu Feng estimated it was about time to meet up with Xufeng and the others, so he turned to head back. He wasn’t worried about the chubby man cheating him out of his spirit stones; the New Moon Sect wouldn’t allow merchants in their territory to act dishonestly.
When he arrived at the entrance, Wang Yuexin and the others were already waiting for him. Judging by their expressions, they looked radiant and must have had quite a harvest.
Once the five of them exited Mountain Valley, the sky gradually darkened. They returned to Tang Zhenghao’s residence, had dinner, and then each went back to their rooms to rest. Having five immortal masters guarding his courtyard was something Tang Zhenghao could only dream of.
In the following days, aside from meals, the five of them hardly stepped outside. Eventually, they even stopped coming out for meals and simply had servants bring food to them.
Xufeng and the others were preparing to participate in the selection competition of the New Moon Sect. They were hiding in their room to cultivate. All four of them were at the Qi Refining Third Layer. Xufeng and Wang Yuexin came from a background of independent cultivators, while Yan Gao and Yan Xing hailed from a family of cultivators. The four of them had inadvertently formed a grudge with the Wan Jian Sect, and without a strong backing, they felt uneasy. This time, joining the New Moon Sect was a must for them.
With his Qi Refinement First Layer strength, Xufeng was just hoping not to be severely injured in the selection competition. As for successfully being chosen, he was self-aware; unless he was allowed to use his Archery Skills, which were his life-saving abilities, revealing them would put him in danger.
Improving one's own strength was the way to go.
Xufeng opened the Golden Yuan Slash again...
Three hours later, a seed the size of a soybean spread out in Xufeng's Dantian, and at the same time, a light appeared below the Golden Arrow in his mind's mysterious space.
Jinxi One Star!
He finally succeeded, and Xufeng let out a heavy sigh. This Jinxi was indeed different; it only took one attempt to reach Fire Element One Star, but this Jinxi took three.
If a seasoned cultivator had known that Xufeng only used three attempts to reach Jinxi Qi Refinement First Layer, they would likely be shocked speechless.
After finishing his cultivation, the morning sun shone through the window onto Xufeng, casting a gentle glow. He walked away from the window and murmured, "Three... my bow should be ready now."
