After class, the homeroom teacher walked out of the classroom and beckoned me with her finger. 0
I pretended not to see and walked past her directly. 0
The homeroom teacher, dissatisfied, grabbed my arm and said in a low voice, "Jiang Ming, I need to talk to you. Come to the office." 0
I retorted, "Can't we talk about it here?" 0
The homeroom teacher frowned and replied, "Don't ask so many questions, just come with me." 0
I responded loudly, "I'm not going." 0
The surrounding students all turned to look at us. 0
The homeroom teacher felt a bit embarrassed and said softly, "Jiang Ming, don't mess around. It's really important." 0
I shouted again, "If it's important, say it here. No need to be sneaky." 0
With no other choice, the homeroom teacher raised her voice and said, "The City Education Bureau is hosting a Mathematics Competition, and the school has decided to let you represent us." 0
"This is a matter of the school's reputation; you must take it seriously." 0
The looks from my classmates were filled with envy. 0
After all, such competitions are often tools for teachers to boost their performance. 0
And when teachers boost their performance, it usually means they can secure spots for students. 0
Zhu Yufeng got a guaranteed spot last year because he won first place in the Mathematics Competition held by the City Education Bureau. 0
Cheng Tong jealously remarked, "Teacher, why should Jiang Ming participate?" 0
"He even talked back to you last time." 0
The homeroom teacher calmly replied, "Jiang Ming's grades are excellent; he is one of the top students. If he doesn't participate, then who will?" 0
Cheng Tong was left speechless. 0
The looks from my classmates turned even more envious. 0
They all thought this was the homeroom teacher extending an olive branch to me, a sign of reconciliation. 0
As long as I participated in this competition, everything that happened before would be forgotten. 0
But I knew that the homeroom teacher wasn't that generous. 0

Let him take part in the competition; it’s just to fulfill a school task. Once the task is over, he will continue to suppress me. After realizing this, I shouted again, "I won't go." This left everyone stunned. They didn't expect that I would refuse such a good opportunity. 0

Cheng Tong was particularly furious and said, "Jiang Ming, what are you pretending to be noble for? Why won’t you take such a great chance?" I retorted, "Why should I go?" Cheng Tong was at a loss for words. 0

The homeroom teacher frowned and said, "Jiang Ming, don’t act impulsively. This is an arrangement by the school; you don’t get to decide." I sneered, "Anyway, I'm not going. You can find whoever you want." After saying that, I returned to my seat. 0

Cheng Tong seized the opportunity and said, "Homeroom teacher, since Jiang Ming doesn’t want to go, let me take her place. Although my math grades aren’t as good as hers, I practice regularly, so it should be fine." The homeroom teacher looked at Cheng Tong and his expression softened considerably. He nodded and said, "Cheng Tong understands." 0

"Jiang Ming, you really should learn from Cheng Tong. Even though Cheng Tong's grades aren't as good as yours, she knows how to be grateful. I’ve really spoiled you for nothing; you’re just an ungrateful wretch!" I looked coldly at the homeroom teacher, and the last bit of gratitude in my heart vanished. The homeroom teacher had treated me well in the past, and I was very grateful to him. So no matter what requests he made of me, I would do my best to fulfill them. 0

Even though I later realized that I was often being used, I never blamed him. But now I finally understand that his kindness towards me was merely to boost his performance. Just like this time, when I refused to participate in the competition, he immediately showed his true colors. 0

"Is Jiang Ming crazy? She actually refused to participate in the competition!" 0
"This is a rare opportunity; why would she refuse?" 0
"Who knows? Maybe she's just lost her mind." 0
"Have you all noticed how much Jiang Ming has changed recently? She used to be so honest, but now she frequently argues with the teachers." 0
"Yeah, I've noticed too. She acts like a rebellious teenager now; she really doesn't know how to behave." 0
"She used to stay up late practicing until two in the morning just to compete. Now, she just decides not to go at all." 0
"She probably knows she can't compete with Zhu Yufeng and Cheng Tong, so she's given up." 0
"That's true; no matter how hard she tries, she can't compete with Cheng Tong's wealthy and influential family." 0
"It's really pitiful; after working hard all her life, she still can't compare to those who were born into better circumstances." 0
