In the year 2047, at midnight, the city was enveloped in silence, with only the flickering neon lights indicating a sleepless night. I lay exhausted in bed, yet sleep eluded me because I knew that when the clock struck midnight again, everything would reset, and I would relive that damned day once more.
"Today is Saturday; Su Qing will go to the library to borrow that book 'A Brief History of Time.' I can create a chance encounter..." I murmured to myself, my tone tinged with madness and anticipation. After all, in this endless loop, only I could remember her and everything between us.
"But does it really matter?" A voice suddenly echoed in my mind. I jolted upright, glancing around; the room was empty, with only the moonlight spilling silver across the floor.
Moonlight? Wasn't it supposed to be overcast today? I rubbed my eyes in disbelief and walked to the window. Throwing open the curtains, I was shocked to find a desolate desert outside, with only a blood-red moon hanging solitary in the sky. "What... what is happening?"
I staggered back in disbelief, my heel hitting the edge of the bed, causing me to stumble and fall onto it. The room's furnishings were simple yet unfamiliar; the metallic walls were cold and smooth, illuminated by lines of flickering blue light that outlined the space. A faint scent of disinfectant lingered in the air.
"What... where is this place?" I muttered to myself, my thoughts in disarray.
"Welcome to the Hub," a deep, raspy voice spoke from behind me, accompanied by faint footsteps.
I spun around abruptly to see a figure cloaked in black standing in the center of the room. His face was obscured by the shadows of his hood, making it impossible to see him clearly.
"Who are you?" I asked warily, instinctively shrinking back.
The mysterious figure chuckled softly; his voice was as grating as metal scraping against metal. "Who I am is not important; what matters is that I know who you are, Lin Yu."
A jolt of shock ran through me—this person knew my name!
"What... what do you want?" I forced myself to sound calm, though my voice trembled slightly.
"I want to help you break this endless cycle," he said slowly, raising his right hand. From beneath the cloak's shadow emerged a pale hand holding a thin Card between its fingertips.
I hesitated for a moment, stood up, and slowly walked in front of the mysterious person. The Card was made of metal, entirely pitch black, with only a silver spiral pattern engraved on the front, mysterious and eerie.
"What is this?" I asked, my gaze fixed on the Card.
"This is the 'Key,' the key that can lead you to the truth," the mysterious person said as they handed me the Card. "Take it and go seek your answers."
I hesitated for a moment but ultimately reached out to take the Card. It felt icy in my hand, as if it carried a strange energy that made me want to grip it tightly.
"Remember, time is short; you must act quickly," the mysterious person's voice echoed again, urgent in tone. "And remember, do not trust anyone, including yourself."
Before the words faded, the mysterious figure gradually began to dissolve, eventually disappearing without a trace, leaving only one sentence lingering in the air:
"We will meet again, Lin Yu."
I clenched the Card tightly in my hand, my heart racing wildly as my mind swirled in confusion. The mysterious person's words struck like lightning, illuminating my previously dark world while plunging me into deeper uncertainty.
Who am I really? What is this Hub? What is the truth behind Time Reset?
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. I knew this was not the time for confusion; I had to figure everything out for Su Qing and for myself.
I looked around; there were no other exits in the room besides the closed metal door. I stepped forward and tentatively pushed against the door, but it did not budge.
"It seems I'll have to find another way out," I murmured to myself, scanning every corner of the room in hopes of finding some clues.
