As the filming progressed, my acting received praise from the director. I gradually began to make a name for myself in the industry. However, every time I was on set, I could always feel a pair of eyes watching me. The owner of those eyes was named Xi Han. Whether during breaks in filming or at social events, his gaze lingered on me.
He didn't say much, but there was an invisible pressure that he exerted. In front of him, I was always cautious, afraid of saying the wrong thing or making a mistake. Xi Han's attitude left me somewhat perplexed. He smiled, yet there seemed to be a subtle distance between us. However, his eyes clearly concealed an undeniable passion. That feeling made me very uneasy.
Especially during a celebration banquet for the completion of a film, he unabashedly stared at me, making my scalp tingle. After the banquet ended and I returned home, I received a text message from an unfamiliar number. "See you tomorrow night at the usual place."
The usual place? I was taken aback. What usual place did Xi Han and I have? Moreover, I had never seen this number before. But my intuition told me that this person was Xi Han. This message kept me awake all night.
The next evening, after much hesitation, I decided to go to the meeting. The meeting place was an upscale restaurant. When I walked into the private room, Xi Han was already sitting there. He had his legs crossed, one hand swirling a glass of red wine while the other gently tapped on the table. Upon seeing me, he smiled and said, "You came?"
"Sit down."
I avoided his gaze and sat down across from him.
Xi Han looked at me, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "What do you want to eat? Feel free to order."
"I'll treat."
I shook my head and said softly, "No need, Mr. Xi."
"If you have something to discuss, just say it directly."
Xi Han raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you want me to say it here?"
I instinctively looked up at him and saw the depth in his eyes, hiding some indescribable ambiguity.
A sudden bad feeling crept into my heart.
Xi Han smiled lightly, his tone certain. "You wouldn't want to say it here."
"After all, there are many people around."
I pressed my lips together, unsure of what to say.
He chuckled softly. "Let's order."
"We can talk while eating."
I could only nod.
During the meal, Xi Han didn't say much.
He ate slowly, every gesture exuding elegance and nobility.
It was clear that he was well-educated.
Yet, there was always a hint of an emotion in his gaze that I couldn't quite define.
I forced myself to eat a little but soon found I couldn't eat anymore.
Xi Han looked at me and raised an eyebrow. "Not to your taste?"
I shook my head. "No."
The corners of his mouth curved slightly. "Then it means the food here isn't good enough."
"Next time, I'll take you somewhere else to eat."
I lowered my eyes, avoiding his gaze. "Mr. Xi, please don't do this."
Xi Han chuckled, "What do you mean by that?"
"Do you think it's inappropriate for me to take you out to dinner?"
"Or do you think I'm not suitable?"
His two questions left me momentarily speechless.
Xi Han smiled, his tone calm, "I just feel a connection with you."
"I want to take care of you a bit more, nothing else."
"Please don't misunderstand."
I couldn't help but inwardly scoff; how could I not misunderstand his actions?
Xi Han smiled again and suddenly asked, "Do you know what my first impression of you was?"
"What was it?"
"Beautiful."
He chuckled, "Your beauty is quite striking."
"It's the kind that makes it hard to forget after just one glance."
I was slightly taken aback.
Xi Han looked at me intently, "That's why I remembered you."
"But don't get the wrong idea."
"I'm not saying your beauty is superficial."
"I'm saying that you, both inside and out, are truly beautiful."
His tone was serious and assured.
Yet I felt a strange sense of unease.
His compliment sounded more like a suggestion.
I didn't know how to respond.
Xi Han smiled again, picked up his glass, and took a small sip.
