Her back was still aching in the spot where she had been injured. Although it had been treated, the pain was still quite severe. Li Ruyue turned over and couldn't help but frown. Wang Yueming immediately became anxious, "Is it still very painful?"
"... A little."
He pressed his lips together, "Just bear with it; it should be better by tomorrow."
Li Ruyue wasn't entirely convinced. She had been injured before, and even a small bump could hurt for several days. But this time, it seemed like it really wasn't as painful.
Li Ruyue lay on her stomach and fell asleep for a while, unknowingly drifting off. In her daze, she felt someone gently covering her with a blanket. After that, she lost all awareness.
Li Ruyue didn't wake up until noon the next day. The injury on her back seemed to really have lessened in pain; at least it didn't affect her normal activities.
She put on her slippers and went outside, first heading to Wang Yueming's room but finding no one there. She then checked the living room but still found no one. She had no choice but to call him.
The phone rang several times before it was answered, "Are you awake?"
Li Ruyue tilted her head, "Where did you go?"
He replied vaguely, "Out."
Li Ruyue didn't press further, "When will you be back?"
"Right away."
Since she didn't have much to do, she let him take his time and didn't rush him. After hanging up the phone, she turned to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water. Just as she was about to drink, she heard the sound of the door opening at the entrance.
She turned around and saw Wang Yueming coming in from outside.
Li Ruyue immediately put down her cup and ran towards him, "You're back!"
Wang Yueming nodded, his expression appearing calm.
Li Ruyue was used to him being this way and didn't think anything was wrong. She pulled him to sit on the sofa and eagerly asked, "What did you do out so early?"
He lowered his eyes, "Nothing much."
"You're lying," Li Ruyue said, not quite believing him. "You have a bruise on your face."
Wang Yueming instinctively touched the corner of his mouth.
Li Ruyue immediately stood up, "Wait here, I'll go get some ointment."
Wang Yueming sat on the sofa, watching her run into the room, the emotions in his eyes gradually sinking.
Li Ruyue quickly returned with the ointment, sitting down beside him. She opened the lid and scooped out a small amount.
Tilting her head slightly, she gently applied the ointment to the wound on his face, "It might sting a little; just bear with it."
Wang Yueming actually didn't feel any pain.
He quietly watched her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
Li Ruyue finished applying the ointment and reminded him not to get it wet for a while.
Wang Yueming nodded but didn't speak.
Li Ruyue felt that something was off about him today, but she couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was.
She stared at him for a while and tentatively asked, "Are you feeling down?"
Wang Yueming lowered his eyes, "No."
Li Ruyue was skeptical, "Then why have you been so quiet?"
He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something.
Li Ruyue patiently waited.
But in the end, he still said nothing.
Li Ruyue felt a bit disappointed but chose not to press further.
She was actually a bit afraid of Wang Yueming. Although he was very kind to her when he wanted to be, his silence could be truly frightening. Li Ruyue didn't dare to throw a tantrum with him, nor could she joke with him like she did with Li Min; most of the time, she could only go along with what he wanted.
She didn't quite understand why this was the case. Perhaps it was because Wang Yueming was always quiet, and she couldn't guess what he was thinking, which made her instinctively fearful. It could also be that he treated her so well that she felt guilty about getting angry with him. Or maybe it was simply because she really, really liked him. That was why she was so cautious and timid.
