At nine-thirty in the evening, Wang Yueming returned to Jiangcheng University.
As soon as he entered his dormitory, his phone suddenly buzzed. He took out his phone and saw a message from Li Ruyue.
[My number hasn’t changed.]
Wang Yueming looked at the message, feeling a mix of emotions. He didn’t reply and placed his phone on the table before heading to take a shower.
After finishing his shower, his phone buzzed again. He picked it up and saw another message from Li Ruyue.
[Your number hasn’t changed either.]
Wang Yueming couldn’t help but smile at the message. He replied: [Yeah, I haven’t changed it.]
[I haven’t changed mine either,] Li Ruyue replied, [so you don’t need to tell me that you changed yours.]
Wang Yueming’s smile widened as he read her message. He replied: [I know.]
Li Ruyue didn’t respond again, so Wang Yueming put down his phone and lay on his bed, with thoughts of Li Ruyue filling his mind.
He recalled the first time they met, the little moments they shared at Jiangcheng No. 9 Middle School, and every moment they spent together…
He missed her; he really missed her.
Tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep, he took out his phone and dialed Li Ruyue’s number. The call connected quickly.
“Hello?” Li Ruyue’s voice came through the phone.
“Hello,” Wang Yueming said, “Are you asleep?”
“No,” Li Ruyue replied, “What about you?”
"I didn't either."
"Oh."
Neither of them spoke, and silence fell over the phone.
"I..." After a long pause, Wang Yueming spoke, "I didn't expect to see you again."
"I didn't expect it either."
"You..." Wang Yueming asked, "Have you been well these years?"
"Pretty good."
"That's good."
Another silence ensued.
"I..." Wang Yueming asked, "Can I call you?"
"Sure."
"Then you..." Wang Yueming asked, "Can you receive it?"
"I can."
"That's good."
"Mm."
"Then..." Wang Yueming said, "Good night."
"Good night."

Li Ruyue lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, her emotions complicated.
She never expected to see Wang Yueming again, let alone for him to reach out to her.
She recalled their first meeting, how he stood up for her at Jiangcheng No. 9 Middle School, and the romance of him celebrating her birthday...
These memories played in her mind like a movie, leaving her restless.
She remembered their last encounter, his indifferent gaze and resolute words, and the sight of him leaving without hesitation...
These memories pierced her heart like knives, causing her unbearable pain. She didn't know how to face him; she was afraid he would hurt her again, yet she couldn't help but want to see him. She was extremely conflicted.
She closed her eyes, forcing herself not to think of him, but the more she tried, the less control she had. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep all night.
The next morning, she arrived at the office with dark circles under her eyes. As soon as she sat down, Xiaoli came over and asked, "Xiaoyue, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," Li Ruyue shook her head. "I just didn't sleep well."
"Oh," Xiaoli said, "then you shouldn't work overtime today. Go home early."
"Okay."
Li Ruyue opened her computer and started working. She was so busy that she didn't finish until six in the evening. As she packed up her things and prepared to leave, her phone suddenly rang.
She took out her phone and saw it was a call from Wang Yueming. After hesitating for a moment, she answered, "Hello?"
"Hello," Wang Yueming said. "Are you off work?"
"Yes."
"I'm at the entrance of your company," Wang Yueming said. "Come out."
"Okay."
