On Monday morning, I took my cleaned school uniform to return it.
"I'll return it after school at noon," I said.
"Sure," Li Min nodded, "We'll go together then."
At noon after school, I went to the multimedia classroom to wait for Wang Yueming.
The multimedia classroom is on the fifth floor of the teaching building. I went up from the fourth floor, and just as I reached the stairway, I saw Wang Yueming.
"Hi," I walked over and waved at him, "I'm here to return your uniform."
Wang Yueming looked at me and nodded slightly, "Thank you."
"You're welcome," I replied, "And thanks for helping me out."
Wang Yueming smiled, "No problem."
I looked at him and suddenly noticed he had cut his hair short, and his bangs were also trimmed; he looked much fresher and cleaner.
"You changed your hairstyle?"
"Yeah."
"It looks nice."
Wang Yueming looked at me as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he didn't say anything.
I felt a bit regretful; I wanted to know more about him.
"By the way," I said, "How do you get to school? Do you ride a bike?"
Wang Yueming looked at me with a hint of confusion in his eyes.
"I was just asking casually," I explained, "Because I see a lot of handsome guys on my way to school every day, so I wanted to know if you ride a bike too."
Wang Yueming looked at me, a glimmer of amusement flashing in his eyes: "I live near Happy Apartment."
"Oh," I said, "That's pretty close to our school."
"Yeah."
"So how do you usually get to school?"
Wang Yueming looked at me, as if trying to read something from my face.
"I was just asking," I said, "if you don't want to say, that's fine."
"I walk to school," Wang Yueming said, "my home is right next to Happy Apartment."
"Oh," I replied, "so you get to see a lot of handsome guys every day."
Wang Yueming: "……"
I looked at him and suddenly realized a question: "So what time do you leave in the morning?"
Wang Yueming looked at me, a puzzled expression on his face: "Seven forty."
"Ah," I said, "then I can only get to school at seven fifty every morning, ten minutes later than you."
Wang Yueming: "……"
"I got it," I said, "I'll try to leave earlier tomorrow; maybe I'll run into you."
Wang Yueming: "……"
"Okay," I said, "let's agree on that. I'm leaving now, bye."
Wang Yueming: "……"
——
In the afternoon class, Li Min leaned over to me and whispered, "So? Did you see Wang Yueming?"
"I did," I said, "he even showed me a route."
"Wow," Li Min said with envy, "Wang Yueming is really nice to you."
"Is he?" I replied, "I think he's pretty nice usually."
Li Min looked at me with a complicated expression: "You don't know enough about Wang Yueming."
"Huh?" I looked at Li Min, "What do you mean?"
Li Min looked at me, hesitating to speak.
"Just tell me," I urged, "don't keep me in suspense."
Li Min sighed: "Did you know that Wang Yueming had a girlfriend before?"
"I don't know," I said, "what's going on?"
"He previously handed in a love letter from a girl to the school authorities, and that girl got punished."
I was taken aback. "Why?"
"Who knows," Li Min shrugged, "maybe he just dislikes that girl."
I was silent for a moment. "Maybe he just doesn't want to be in a relationship."
"Maybe," Li Min said, "but I still advise you not to have too high expectations of him."
"Why?"
"He's very talented," Li Min said, "but he's too cold and hard to approach."
"I see," I said, "good thing I didn't plan on pursuing him."
Li Min: "..."
"I just want to know him a bit better," I said, "after all, he's the most handsome guy I've ever seen."
Li Min: "..."
"Alright," I said, "actually there's another reason."
"What reason?"
"I want to know," I said, "why he helped me."
