Xia Xiaoyu felt as if she were being engulfed by waves of seawater, a chill beginning to emanate from every part of her body. Her gaze remained fixed on the tightly shut door in the distance.
After a long pause, Xia Xiaoyu finally reacted; she could clearly feel her body had gone completely stiff, yet her feet moved robotically backward.
Tap, tap, tap...
She continued to retreat until finally, she turned and ran in the opposite direction. The entire corridor was filled with an overwhelming coldness, and the sound of her footsteps echoed continuously.
She turned around two corners, and then the Staircase Entrance appeared before her. At that moment, Xia Xiaoyu had no time to think; she gasped for breath as her heart raced.
The Staircase Entrance emitted a series of strange sounds before Xia Xiaoyu ascended the stairs.
In the night sky, stars twinkled brightly against the pure backdrop of high altitude. A cold breeze swept by, causing Xia Xiaoyu, who had lost all semblance of elegance, to shiver involuntarily.
She glanced down at the skyscrapers below; the bustling city lay right before her eyes, but Xia Xiaoyu felt even more shocked inside.
Turning her gaze back, she caught sight of the words "f12" written above the Staircase Entrance.
This place was actually on the twelfth floor?
Even though the lights in the hospital illuminated the corridor and stairs, they still failed to dispel the chilling sensation that seeped into Xia Xiaoyu's heart.
She felt completely numb, but the night breeze brushed against her, bringing a slight sensation to her frozen body.
She steadied herself, yet her heart was filled with fear. However, a thread of rationality within her was telling her that she was in serious trouble now!
Tap, tap, tap...
Just as Xia Xiaoyu regained her composure, she heard that familiar sound of footsteps again.
At the end of the corridor, a hazy black mist began to rise, and a shadowy figure slowly approached her from within the fog. Xia Xiaoyu started to panic once more.
It was that same sound of footsteps she had heard when she first arrived on the Seventh Floor.
Empty and lifeless, indistinct yet clear enough for Xia Xiaoyu to see that someone was indeed coming closer to her through the black mist.
The chill in her heart intensified with each step that resembled the grim reaper's approach, causing her heart to race. Her last shred of rationality told her that she could not stay here.
She couldn't let whatever was in the black mist catch her...
But Xia Xiaoyu found herself with no way out. Ahead of her, the mist was gradually enveloping her, accompanied by those terrifying footsteps that seemed to penetrate her soul. Behind her was a dead end; there was simply no path to take.
No, there was one way out: down the Staircase Entrance...
Yet Xia Xiaoyu had a feeling that no matter which way she went, it would be like falling into a predetermined trap. She had no extra paths left...
Tap tap tap...
Strange footsteps echoed from the black mist ahead, and Xia Xiaoyu suddenly felt her breath quicken. Rationally, she didn't want to linger here.
As those hollow footsteps gradually approached, Xia Xiaoyu turned and ran toward the Staircase Entrance...
Xia Xiaoyu was stunned. However, when she reached the bottom and saw the walls on either side and a single passageway, it indeed confirmed her thoughts.
Had she returned to the third underground level?
Going up led to the twelfth floor, while going down brought her to the third underground level...
The entire Hospital, from the second basement to the eleventh floor, had seemingly vanished...
