Xia Xiaoyu stepped out of the elevator, the silence was as thick as a tomb. A desolate corridor appeared before her, lined with patient rooms. In this midnight hour, it felt like a path leading to the underworld, filled with an eerie atmosphere that wrapped around her, instilling a deep-seated fear.
Xia Xiaoyu had never walked down this corridor before; she took a few steps back. Next to the elevator was the stairway to the emergency exit.
Still so silent...
But rationally, Xia Xiaoyu did not turn down that corridor because she sensed that something terrifying would surely appear if she ventured past the patient rooms on either side.
In the quiet of midnight, outside was shrouded in darkness. However, from the twelfth floor corridor of this bustling city hospital, she could see many areas illuminated by bright lights. The nighttime city was still so beautiful, yet there wasn't a single person to behold it. Xia Xiaoyu found herself facing something horrifying on the twelfth floor of the National Hospital.
She had heard many stories about midnight staircases. Back in high school, she had listened to audio novels recounting ghost stories. At that time, despite feeling a bit scared due to psychological effects, she firmly believed that ghosts did not exist. But now, she was experiencing something different.
Thinking back on those tales made Xia Xiaoyu feel even more frightened, especially since it was now midnight. Although there were lights in the corridor and stairwell, the hospital's oppressive atmosphere and grave-like silence still terrified her.
She stood at the twelfth-floor stairway for nearly ten minutes before finally lifting her numb feet and taking heavy steps down the stairs slowly.
Tap, tap, tap...
The night was extremely quiet. Despite wearing flat shoes, Xia Xiaoyu could still vaguely hear the terrifying sound of her footsteps echoing on the stairs.
At that moment, Xia Xiaoyu felt an overwhelming fear, but she dared not stop or take the elevator. Once inside the elevator, she always felt it was unsafe.
She walked slowly; the entire hallway was spacious, and Xia Xiaoyu didn't dare to walk too quickly. The strange hollow sound of her footsteps continued to resonate, stimulating her eardrums.
After nearly ten minutes, Xia Xiaoyu finally reached the twelfth floor. She let out a deep breath and kept glancing around. It was still so quiet, and there was nothing frightening in sight.
However, as she slowly surveyed her surroundings, an unsettling feeling suddenly arose within her. As she moved, it seemed like both sides resembled underground passages rather than hospital rooms.
A chill continuously crept in from the front of the passage. Xia Xiaoyu stared blankly ahead, her heart growing even more fearful.
After stopping at the edge of the stairs for a few minutes, Xia Xiaoyu gradually came to her senses. She turned back to look at the stairs leading to the twelfth floor and tentatively took a step forward.
In the narrow passage, it was even quieter and colder, eerily making Xia Xiaoyu feel waves of terror.
The sound of her footsteps echoed as if many people were walking alongside her. Whenever she stopped, all sounds would completely cease. Although Xia Xiaoyu understood that the noise in the passage was caused by her own walking, she still felt panic.
Thus, after walking for nearly five or six minutes in the narrow passage and turning two corners, Xia Xiaoyu's gaze fell upon a door at the far end of the corridor.
A piercing chill began to rise from her feet. In that instant of seeing it, she realized that this place was not a hospital room but rather why it resembled a passageway.
This is actually the third underground level of the Hospital...
What she saw was a door emanating a chilling aura, clearly marked with three large letters...
