Ah...
The crisp sound broke the tranquility of the Dormitory Building. The series of nightmares and strange occurrences had worn down Xia Xiaoyu, and she could no longer hold on. Her body slumped, her face pale, and she was running a high fever.
In the morning, she took a few pills and lay in bed, but by afternoon, her fever persisted. She had no choice but to take a leave of absence and go to the Hospital. However, by the time all the procedures were completed, she still hadn't taken care of herself. That evening, the doctor advised her to stay for observation.
The other girls from All Dormitory had spent the entire afternoon helping Xia Xiaoyu and were utterly exhausted. By nightfall, Xu Qian somehow learned that Xia Xiaoyu was unwell and took the initiative to come care for her.
"Xia Xiaoyu, are you okay?"
When Xu Qian entered Xia Xiaoyu's hospital room, he immediately spoke to her as he pushed open the door. It was evident that he was in a hurry; considering the distance, it would take at least an hour for him to arrive after he called to say he was coming. Yet, it hadn't even been thirty minutes since then when he showed up. It was clear that after making the call, Xu Qian rushed over without delay.
"I'm fine..."
Xia Xiaoyu was in a single hospital room, leaning against the headboard. Her face looked pale and she appeared quite haggard.
The other girls returned to University after learning that Xu Qian would be coming to take care of Xia Xiaoyu that night. They had all been through a tiring afternoon and were worn out. For Xia Xiaoyu, being in the Hospital was uncommon, especially staying overnight; the pungent smell of medicine inside was somewhat overwhelming.
"Why do you look so bad? Did something happen last night?"
Seeing Xia Xiaoyu in such a state filled Xu Qian with concern. Her haggard appearance made him frown involuntarily.
Xia Xiaoyu did not respond; she was so exhausted that she barely had the strength to speak, her mind foggy and her head spinning.
"Get some rest. I'll stay with you tonight," Xu Qian said, feeling a bit guilty upon seeing Xia Xiaoyu's haggard appearance. Although this situation wasn't directly related to him, as a friend, Xu Qian felt a pang of regret.
"I'm fine!"
Xia Xiaoyu forced a smile. She didn't have many friends in this city, and Xu Qian's unsolicited care touched her heart slightly.
"If you're hungry, just let me know. I can get you anything you want," Xu Qian said softly, noticing the faint, weak smile on Xia Xiaoyu's face.
"Thank you..."
Xia Xiaoyu looked at Xu Qian gratefully.
That evening, Xu Qian was indeed quite tired. He went to the hospital to pay the fees, then got the medication, and finally bought dinner outside.
However, because Xia Xiaoyu was burning with fever and only managed to chat a little before drifting off to sleep, he didn’t get much of a chance to talk.
She slept very restlessly, often feeling as if someone was pushing her just as she was about to fall asleep, making her feel like she would tumble off the hospital bed. In this half-asleep state, she suddenly woke up again in the middle of the night, feeling incredibly thirsty as if her throat were on fire.
When Xia Xiaoyu woke up, she saw that Xu Qian had already fallen asleep beside her bed, looking peaceful. She glanced at the clock; it was already eleven o'clock. The night was quiet, but she didn't want to disturb Xu Qian. So she decided to go to the Water Room at the end of the hallway to get some water.
The corridor was extremely quiet.
