It was too dim to see how far away anything was. This continued quietly for several minutes. Although I was somewhat surprised that there was someone else in the University at this hour, it was clear that the person crouching down and feeling around on the ground seemed to have lost something important. They probably had no choice but to come looking for it at night.
Xia Xiaoyu had experienced something similar before; it was something everyone had gone through—being alone at night.
"What are you doing here?"
Xia Xiaoyu took a step forward, getting a little closer, but her sense of caution remained intact. Still curious, she couldn't help but ask.
"I'm looking for something important..."
A deep male voice responded, causing Xia Xiaoyu's tense body to relax slightly with the sound of his words, at least not feeling so unsettled anymore.
As Xia Xiaoyu moved closer, she still saw the man's hands continuously searching the ground and asked again, "What are you looking for?"
The man paused for a moment without turning around and replied, "Something very important."
Xia Xiaoyu glanced around; although it was quite blurry, being so close, could the man really not see that there was nothing on the ground? There was nothing around them either.
What could he possibly be searching for?
"Why don't you tell me? I can help you look..."
In the night, there was a person who brought a sense of calm to Xia Xiaoyu. Her gaze kept darting around, searching for anything unusual.
"Really?"
When the man said this, a chilling sensation crept down Xia Xiaoyu's neck, causing her to tense up. In that moment, she seemed to vaguely understand something, but couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.
Moreover, her body's instincts kicked in, and all her senses became alert.
"Um..."
Xia Xiaoyu replied softly. Even though her spine felt cold, she managed to respond.
After her reply, the man slowly turned his head, as if in slow motion like a scene from a movie. He then spoke in a haunting voice:
"My face has fallen off, miss. Please help me find my face..."
It was a face that had been peeled away, bloodied and mangled—a man without a face?
